1 FALL & SPRING 2015 CATALOG Cornelis Van Staalduinen & Sons Certified Wholesale Growers and Distributors Since 1943 Members of NAFWA, NCAN, NCLA, and SNA Prices effective through June 15, 2015

2 WELCOME August 2014 Dear Customer, Greetings from Terra Ceia. I hope this letter finds you in good health and ready to get in the garden to plant some fall bulbs and plants for blooms next spring. When I saw the picture the designer chose to use on the Fall cover the first thing I noticed was the stem rather than the flower itself. No, our plants aren t sick, rather, this was from a disastrous hailstorm three days before our harvest began. The picture below is just some of the flowers that were not harvestable due to stem and bud damage. In the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, there were many good photo ops that wouldn t normally occur since they are all harvested in the bud. So other than a hailstorm and a near-miss on the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, we have enjoyed good rains and generally benign growing weather ever since. The battle with weeds is fast approaching its end and at this time we are already busy lifting product for the upcoming shipping season. I am happy to report that so far the quality looks excellent. The family is doing well and all the kids go back to school in about three weeks. This year, our oldest is a senior in high school while our youngest is just starting Kindergarten - so we are constantly reminded how quickly time passes while at the same time seeing how far we have yet to go! My mom is also doing well. She has been having some thyroid issues and feeling tired so she decided to go gluten-free in hopes that a diet change would be helpful. I m thinking that having ten grandchildren about for the duration of the summer holiday might be a factor but now her trip to the nearest natural grocery store is a two and a half hour drive. That alone would make me tired. Thanks again for your business and support this past spring. We are thankful for our faithful customers and look forward to serving you this upcoming shipping season. Let us know how we can help. God bless you all. Sincerely, Carl Van Staalduinen Order Toll-Free (800) Hour Fax (704) or Order Online Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. Because Amaryllis thrive at an air temperature of 68 to 70 degrees with a soil temperature of 75 degrees, bottom heat is essential to getting your bulbs off to an early start. To provide these conditions without the expense of a high-tech glasshouse, simply place your pots on a standard heating pad. Heating pads enable you to leave the thermostat at a comfortable temperature while providing sufficient heat in the root zone. It should be noted that Amaryllis will grow fine in the absence of bottom heat, only not as fast. Free Shipping & Handling on Orders over $750 All Price Tables Are Now Per Package 27
