3 and Guide for Yukon Activities The guide is the result of a coordinated effort between the federal government s of Fisheries & Oceans and Canada and several Yukon government departments including ; ; Community Services; Highways & Public Works; Tourism & Culture and the Executive Council Office (Development Assessment ). Purpose This is a reference guide for people who need to identify specific federal and territorial government authorizations and contacts for project development activities. The guide may be helpful during any phase of project development, but it does not replace any legislation or regulation that governs project development in Yukon. This guide is intended to provide initial information only and requires that you contact the appropriate agency for more complete assistance. Points to Remember Processing applications for permits, licences and authorizations takes time. Please contact the relevant government departments early in the application process to assist you in meeting your project plan timelines. Contact information for each authorization or permit can be found in the last column of each table in the permit guide. You may be required to pay a fee depending on the type of permit. Fees may also vary depending on the type of permit. For more detailed information on permit fees, please contact the government department or agency that issues the permit or authorization. If you are not familiar with the authorization process, you may want to first consider consulting the relevant government department as they may be aware of details that could be important to your project application. Please ensure that you contact the government department or agency listed in the guide to determine whether or not your project will require further review or authorization by other governments (First Nation, municipal, etc.). In addition, your project may also require an environmental assessment. The government department or branch issuing the permit can either inform you of any environmental assessment requirements or direct you to the appropriate office for further assistance. Limitations This guide is intended to assist land users and is not to be considered exhaustive. Please forward information updates to paguide@gov.yk.ca. Additional information can be found at 1

4 How to Use this Guide 1. Find the general activity that best describes your project in the table of contents. 2. Locate the specific activity that best describes your project in the first column of each table.* 3. Find the column headings; they will guide you to permit/authorization information.** al Assessment Prior to receiving an authorization, projects in Yukon may be subject to an assessment under the Yukon al and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA). The determination of whether an assessment is required is made by the regulator. To find out whether your project requires an assessment under YESAA please contact: the government department issuing the permit or authorization for your project; or the Yukon government s Development Assessment Process Manager at the Development Assessment. Phone numbers for Yukon government departments and branches can be found at: Activities on Settlement Land Many surface activities on Settlement Land (under a Yukon First Nation Final Agreement) may require permission or a permit from the First Nation. Please check with the First Nation in the area where your project is proposed to find out more about permission or permit requirements. The requirements for sub-surface activities on Settlement Land are more complex. A detailed explanation of when permission or a permit may be required can be found here: Even when a permit is not required, the of Yukon encourages all those planning to undertake activities on Settlement Land to communicate their plans in advance to the relevant First Nation. Work in Municipalities s for work carried out in municipalities may not be listed in this guide. Please contact the appropriate municipal government for more information about which authorizations you require. Notes *If your project includes more than one of the activities listed, it may require more than one authorization. Please check with the corresponding government departments (Responsible Authorities) for more information. **We have included the names of acts, government departments, contact numbers and addresses where we can. Bold italicized indicates a territorial act or regulation and italicized indicates a federal act or regulation. 2
