1 Curriculum Vitae Renard Gluzman Short Biography Born in Tel Aviv, I started my professional life by creating video games. I later was a teacher of design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and the head of the Video Games Design Program at the Midrasha School of Arts for seven years. In 2011, I have decided to put my career aside and pursue maritime adventures. I dedicated myself fully to the study of maritime history in the Graduate School of Historical Studies in Tel-Aviv University. Besides theoretical work, I am also a skipper and owner of a sailing boat. My research is based on historical sources, as well as practical knowledge from sailing in these seas. Academic Education Current (2010) PhD in the Zvi Yavetz Graduate School of Historical Studies, the Faculty of Humanities, Tel-Aviv University, on the subject of Private Shipping in Renaissance Venice ( ). Dissertation abstract Although it is widely accepted the round ships constituted the bulk of the Venetian merchant fleet in any period, and despite the fact that during the sixteenth century the spectrum of activity of Venetian round ships was further extended and restrictions on their movements were loosened, most of the studies on Venice's merchant fleet still concern merchants galleys. Based on new archival evidence, this research attempt to reconstruct the biography of large round ships, from the moment one was launched until it was declared unseaworthy, against the background of political changes, military conflicts and economic turmoil at that time. 5
