5 NEW CHALLENGES IN LOGISTICS Waste management and recycling companies Simply collecting and dumping materials is not enough to be a serious contender in today s waste and recycling business. Companies have shifted their focus from transport logistics to actively steering their portfolio towards treatment opportunities. Some waste management and recycling companies have themselves become producers of new products, thereby combining forward and reverse logistics in their supply chains. Manufacturing companies The time when manufacturing companies only needed a forward gear for their supply chains is coming to an end. Developments such as the rise of online shopping and home deliveries, growing pressure to make efficient use of transport, and regulations requiring items such as electrical products and cardboard waste to be recycled are already pushing reverse logistics higher up the corporate agenda.

Advanced Logistics offers a Microsoft Dynamics AX solution that supports both flows. Logistics service providers Companies often use thirdparty logistics service providers (3PLs) to manage their forward and reverse logistics. For 3PLs reverse logistics provides an alternative source of supply, repair and refurbishment services for customers and increased profitability. Return orders and service management are already available in Microsoft Dynamics AX to support reverse logistics. Advanced Logistics delivers additional functionality for organizing pick-up points, tracking and handling containers or bins, dispatching return activities and reporting to public or other authorities. Industrial service companies Many industrial service companies need to manage the shipment and return of goods and (rented) equipment from project sites. The integration of Advanced Logistics into Microsoft Dynamics AX project management offers these companies a complete logistics solution. Advanced Logistics can also be used by service companies those offering services for soil remediation, industrial cleaning, demolition and remediation of building sites, asbestos remediation and many other lines of business to manage the collection of waste or recyclable goods from a project site.

8 BENEFITS Advanced Logistics is integrated into an ERP solution with an internationally installed database consisting of companies active in different business areas. Microsoft Dynamics AX is specifically targeted at mid-market organizations. It offers broad and robust functionality and delivers low total cost of ownership through integration with other Microsoft products and technologies. Advanced Logistics provides an end-to-end solution for managing forward and reverse logistics for all types of hazardous and nonhazardous products: waste, recyclable material, renewables, new products, and goods and equipment returned from customer and project sites. The software supports different transport modes, including roll-off containers, wheelie bins, packed goods, tank transport and sea freight transport. Logistics order processing can be set up to include collection orders, storage of inbound orders, freight request orders, so-called milk rounds in service companies and transport service orders. Advanced Logistics only extends standard Dynamics AX. Our coding does not alter or impose constraints on any existing standard Dynamics AX functionality. So you can smoothly upgrade the solution with future Dynamics AX versions. For mid-market and large enterprises Advanced Logistics delivers true multicompany functionality. Forward and reverse logistics are managed in an organizational model that is independent of the legal structure of the operating units involved, whether they are dispatch centers or internal treatment centers.

9 Advanced Logistics can be easily and quickly adapted to the requirements put forward by business process owners. Many changes can be done bymade through configuration instead ofrather than code implementation. Advanced Logistics supports the set-up of environmental taxes with tariff differentiation based on the product family, origin and/or treatment type of the product flow.

10 HOW DOES IT WORK? Advanced Logistics is tightly integrated with the project module of Microsoft Dynamics AX. Supply chain operations are managed in a project context. All the financial and logistical transactions are based on project transactions. All the data in the project module are generated as data are added to Advanced Logistics. The typical end user does not have to make any transaction in the project module. Advanced Logistics uses a supply chain line to define a group of one or more products that are supplied and/or received at the supply chain party location. A supply chain line connects the supply chain party to the transportation network. Waste and recycling companies can use Advanced Logistics collection tasks to manage their operations but if renewables are sold like new products, delivery tasks are created to manage the distribution process. Logistics service providers use collection tasks to organize the reverse logistics of the products sold. Distribution and collection tasks can be planned separately, but the logistics tasks can be linked in order to optimize the transport. Logistics projects, logistics orders and logistics tasks are Advanced Logistics entities for planning and monitoring delivery and collection tasks. Due to tight integration with Microsoft Office, data can be easily imported, exported and used throughout the entire organization. An intuitive, user-friendly interface reduces training costs and significantly increases staff productivity. Users also appreciate the possibility of customizing their screens. They can remove elements and rearrange the layout, all without affecting their colleagues screens. Customizable smart filters offer dynamic selections from any data set.
