1 VSX Systems, Version Polycom is pleased to announce the release of version software for the VSX series, as well as the newest addition to the VSX product line the compact, entry-level VSX 6000 video conferencing system. What s New in the Release? Polycom software release is available as a software update for customers with current service agreements. Version includes all of the new features and enhancements of version 7.5. For the VSX 8000, content capture and send reliability has been improved. For all VSX systems, minor issues involving the web interface, Global Management System (GMS) compatibility, and SoftUpdate have been addressed. For more information, see the Corrected Issues table later in this document. If you have a VSX 8000 system with version 7.5 software, update to version to ensure proper operation. Polycom recommends that you update all other VSX systems running 7.5 to version The VSX 6000 System The new VSX 6000, a set-top system designed for small group applications, is ideal for organizations with an IP network infrastructure, providing IP-based video conferencing at up to 768 kbps. In addition, the VSX 6000 offers the following features: The outstanding video you expect from the VSX series Dual-monitor emulation, additional display option, DVD/VCR connections, standards-based H.264 video, and other video features available in the latest VSX system software. Top-quality audio The VSX 6000 system s built-in mid-range speaker provides crystal-clear sound in your conference room. In larger rooms, you can add external speakers to take full advantage of the system s Polycom StereoSurround capabilities. Integration with the Polycom SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone Like the VSX 7000 and VSX 8000 systems, the VSX 6000 can be used with a VTX 1000 conference phone instead of a microphone pod. Use the phone keypad to place video calls as well as phone calls. Collaboration and communication tools Add a Visual Concert VSX unit for easy data collaboration. Use VSX Web to provide closed captioning as well as all the other web interface functionality that makes the VSX series so easy to use. January /A

2 Upgrading to Version Software Polycom software release is available as a software upgrade for customers with current service agreements. The new People+Content IP option comes installed on VSX 8000 systems, and can be installed on any other VSX system. To update system software or add system options, you use the SoftUpdate application available on the Polycom web site. For more information about upgrading software and enabling system options, please refer to Upgrading Polycom Video Software, available at the Polycom Resource Center. Obtaining Key Codes for Software You must have a key code for the software update, and any new system options, in order to install the software upgrade. Once you have your key codes, you can download the SoftUpdate file and prepare to install. If your organization includes a number of systems, you can upgrade multiple systems at one time. For information about obtaining key codes for multiple systems at one time, refer to Upgrading Polycom Video Software, available at the Polycom Resource Center. To obtain key codes for a single system, follow these steps: 1. Using a web browser, go to and click Polycom Resource Center. 2. Log in to the Polycom Resource Center. Note that you will need to set up a PRC account, if you don t already have one. 3. Go to the Product Activation page. 4. In the Software Upgrade Key Code dialog, click Retrieve Software Key Code

3 5. On the Retrieve Upgrade Key Code page, enter the serial number of your system and click Retrieve to obtain a key code for the software update. You can find the serial number by choosing System > System Information on your VSX system. The serial number also appears on a label on the bottom of the system. 6. Make a note of the software key code. You can also obtain key codes while running SoftUpdate if you have Internet access from the PC on which you are running SoftUpdate.exe. Obtaining Key Codes for Options 1. Using a web browser, go to and click Polycom Resource Center. 2. Log in to the Polycom Resource Center. Note that you will need to set up a PRC account, if you don t already have one. 3. Go to the Product Activation page

4 4. In the Single License Number dialog, enter the license number of the option and the serial number of the system. 5. Click Generate to generate the option key code. 6. Make a note of the option key code. You can also obtain key codes while running SoftUpdate if you have Internet access from the PC on which you are running SoftUpdate.exe. Downloading and Installing the Upgrade After you have a key code for the software update and any new system options, you are ready to download and install the software upgrade. To upgrade a single system, follow these steps: 1. Using a web browser, go to and click Polycom Resource Center. 2. Log in to the Polycom Resource Center. Note that you will need to set up a PRC account, if you don t already have one. 3. Navigate to your product page in the Downloads section of the Polycom Resource Center and download the software. 4. Extract and launch the downloaded SoftUpdate.exe file on your PC to start the installation. If your organization includes a number of systems, you can also upgrade software for multiple systems at one time. See Upgrading Polycom Video Software, available at the Polycom Resource Center, for more information about upgrading multiple systems

5 What s New in the 7.5 Release? People+Content IP People+Content IP is an optional software application available for VSX systems. It enables a presenter to connect to a video conferencing system via an IP network connection to show content from a computer. The presenter can show PowerPoint slides, video clips, spreadsheets, or any other type of content that runs on a computer. Supported resolutions include CIF, SIF, 4CIF, 4SIF, VGA, SVGA, and XGA. The toolbar is easy to use. You can start and stop presentations with one button click and highlight details with the zoom feature. The toolbar is compact you can minimize it or move it to the side for a clutter-free presentation. Licenses are available on a per system basis. You can install the presenter software on an unlimited number of computers. Before a presenter can use a computer to show content with People+Content IP, you need to: Enable People+Content IP on the VSX system. When you purchase this option, you receive a software option license. This key allows you to enable People+Content IP on a VSX system. Install the People+Content IP software application on the computer(s) that the presenter will use to show content. The presenter software is available for download at You don t need to change the computer resolutions and you don t need special cables or hardware, but the computer(s) must meet these requirements: Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Professional Minimum computer: 500 MHz Pentium III (or equivalent); 256 MB memory Recommended computer: 1 GHz Pentium III (or equivalent); 500 MB memory Connect the computer(s) to the IP network. 6 SoundStation VTX 1000 Conference Phone Integration New Features If your conference room includes a VSX video conferencing system integrated with a SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone, you can use the video conferencing system and the conference phone together to place and manage video and audio-only calls. The 7.5 release includes the following new features: Video Call Hangup With the new video call hang-up feature, you can end video calls using either the SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone or the VSX system. Video Call Redial You can now redial the last call that you dialed from the SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone keypad by pressing the REDIAL soft key. Note that this feature redials the last call dialed from the SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone keypad, not the last video call dialed from the VSX system. VSX Analog Phone Call via Conference Phone On the VSX system Call Preference screen, you can select Enable Analog Phone. The system will automatically use an analog phone line if calls using the other specified interfaces fail to connect or if it determines that an analog phone line is the best alternative based on the dialing address. For example, if you have an IP-only system that does not have a gatekeeper, and you enter a phone number, the VSX system will dial using the analog phone line. You can also directly place an analog phone call from the VSX system if Call Quality is enabled in the Home Screen Settings. Single Monitor VGA Support on the VSX 8000 You can now use a VGA monitor as the main monitor (Monitor 1) on the VSX VGA resolution is limited to 800 x 600 at 60 Hz. H.264 Video Error Concealment H.264 video error concealment enhances your video experience by diminishing freezing video. The encoder enhancements implemented on the VSX systems: Minimize the chance that the display will freeze Conceal errors Reduce full-frame refreshes - 6 -

7 H.264 error video concealment works with: All VSX systems running software version 7.0 or later. All H.264-compatible endpoints from any vendor; however, it performs optimally with Polycom V500 or VSX systems running software version 7.5 or (Note that different endpoints may facilitate this feature to varying degrees.) H.331 Support H.331 is a broadcast standard that enables one-way data transmission. It is useful in situations where you want to send video and audio to many other systems, such as with large satellite networks. This feature allows VSX system endpoints to function as send-only or receive-only units. H.331 is available for VSX 7000 and VSX 8000 systems with V.35 only. With H.264: H.331 selects the same H.264 resolution that a VSX system endpoint would send to another VSX system endpoint in an H.320 point-to-point call at a given call rate. Level 1.2 with 10,000 maximum macroblocks per second and 512 Kbps maximum bit rate overrides. With dual or single stream: With dual streams, H.331 sends content in the same format that two VSX system endpoints would send to each other when connected in an H.320 V.35 call at the corresponding data rate. 4SIF, 4CIF, VGA, SVGA, and XGA resolutions are supported. With single stream, content. With H.331, the video and audio transmit modes that you select manually will override modes that would normally be negotiated automatically by the system. Therefore, you should configure your system to use modes that the receiving system can support

9 Camera Sharpness with H.264 4SIF/4CIF If you set the Video Quality setting to Sharpness, the system will use H.264 4SIF/4CIF instead of H.263 when the far-site system supports H.264 4SIF/4CIF. On the VSX 3000, the Sharpness setting is not available for the main camera; however, it is available for the VCR. H.264 4SIF/4CIF reception is supported on all VSX systems running software version 7.5 or New Audio Algorithm The G.722.1/16 audio algorithm replaces G.729 as the preferred audio mode in H.320 point-to-point calls at 56 or 64 Kbps. Audio Line Control Support for the VSX 3000 You can now connect and configure the VSX 3000 audio line inputs for use with an audio mixer, as well as a VCR/DVD player. Polycom StereoSurround with a Single Microphone Pod or SoundStation VTX 1000 Conference Phone Polycom StereoSurround uses two channels of Siren 14 in parallel in the same call. This means that voices from opposite sides of a room in a video call are heard as if they came from that side of the room, in stereo. With the single mic pod stereo feature, you can now use stereo with either only one tabletop microphone or one SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone. Polycom StereoSurround is available for all VSX systems. You can enable Polycom StereoSurround with any of these configurations: No mic pods One mic pod Two mic pods SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone with no mic pods VSX 3000 Keep the following in mind when enabling Polycom StereoSurround: If you enable Polycom StereoSurround on a VSX 6000 or VSX 7000, the midrange speaker is automatically disabled. If you disable StereoSurround on a VSX 6000 or VSX 7000, you are asked if you want to re-enable the midrange speaker

10 More Flexibility with Polycom Microphones The new Enable Polycom Microphones setting lets you specify whether you want to enable or disable the integrated and attached Polycom microphones, including the: VSX 3000 system's integrated microphone VSX 6000, VSX 7000, and VSX 8000 microphone pods SoundStation VTX 1000 integrated microphones SoundStation VTX 1000 extended microphones You should disable this setting in these situations: When you have a VSX system integrated with both a Vortex mixer and a SoundStation VTX 1000 conference phone. When you have an external handset or headset attached to a VSX system line input. This setting is automatically disabled when a line input is set to Audio Mixer, echo cancellation is enabled on a line set for Audio Mixer, and stereo is enabled. PathNavigator Extended Error Code Support PathNavigator proprietary error codes are now recorded in the call logs and the Call Detail Report (CDR). The system will now display text in the UI that details these specific PathNavigator error codes. Web Director Administrators of VSX 3000 systems can now use the Web Director feature within VSX Web to monitor a call or the room where the system is installed. For security reasons, this feature can only be enabled on the local system by an administrator

11 Corrected Issues The following table lists issues corrected in version Issue VSX 8000 and content Description In scenarios where the VGA signal was repeatedly lost and regained (for example, when a VGA switcher was used to select between multiple sources to feed the VSX 8000 VGA input), a VSX 8000 system sending content would sometimes not send the content and instead display only the Visual Concert VSX logo screen at both sites. This problem has been corrected. When in a call and receiving content, a VSX 8000 system would sometimes reboot. This problem has been corrected. System reboots The system would sometimes spontaneously reboot at the logo screen or when placing a call when registered to more than two Global Management System (GMS) servers. This problem has been corrected. The system would sometimes spontaneously reboot if its web interface was browsed using a browser that had a proxy server configured. This problem has been corrected. GMS/SoftUpdate compatibility GMS was unable to perform software upgrades to VSX systems using the 7.5 SoftUpdate. This problem is corrected (requires GMS 6.11 or later)

12 Feature Limitations The following table lists known limitations with the product. Feature Calling Closed captioning Conference link cables Directory G.722.1/16 on H.320 Limitations When you call a cell phone using voice over ISDN, set the call quality to ISDN Phone. Setting the call quality to Auto may result in unexpected behavior. When two systems with dynamic bandwidth enabled connect in a high line rate H.323 call (768 or higher) over a DSL or cable line, the system reports the line rate as the rate at which the call was dialed. However, the call's actual bandwidth is likely much lower, due to the DSL or cable line's restricted uplink speed. The actual transmit bandwidth being used in the call is displayed on page 2 of the Call Statistics page. Note that it is recommended that system administrators set the Maximum Transmit Bandwidth setting in System > Admin Settings > Network > IP > Quality of Service > Bandwidth to match their DSL or Cable line's uplink speed, as this will prevent the system from trying to transmit at rates higher than the DSL or Cable line can accommodate. On a VSX 8000, if you make a POTS call to an analog or cell phone and then try to call the number again from the Recent Calls list, the call is dialed as voice over ISDN if ISDN Voice is listed ahead of Analog Phone in the Call Preference order. To work around this behavior, set Analog Phone ahead of ISDN Voice in the Call Preference list. Incoming voice over ISDN calls must be answered manually. Closed captioning is available for languages using the Latin alphabet. When using conference link cables: The cable that connects directly to the system must have a ferrite bead on it, and the bead must be at the end that plugs into the system. Cables that do not connect directly into the system must not have ferrite beads. The cable that connects directly to the system must be the longest one in the daisy-chain, if the cables aren't all the same length. When you add up the lengths of all the cables in the daisy-chain, the total can be no more than 110 feet. For example, this configuration would work: a 50-foot cable from the system to a Visual Concert VSX, then a 30-foot cable (without a ferrite bead) to a mic pod, and then another 30-foot cable (without a ferrite bead) to a second mic pod. You cannot add a multipoint entry to a custom category. The MGC does not currently support G.722.1/16 in H.320 conferences

13 Feature Global Management System (GMS) Limitations GMS provisioning of the Primary and Secondary Call Types is not supported. When using GMS to provision a VSX 6000, do not create a profile for the VSX 6000 that enables "Multipoint" on "Home Screen Settings Page 1", as Multipoint is not supported on the VSX Doing so will result in the loss of the Directory and Recent Call buttons on the Place a Call screen. H.331 In an H.331 call between two VSX systems with H.264 video configured and with People+Content turned off, neither site can send content to the other site. To resolve this problem, the site sending content should enable People+Content. When you enable People+Content in the H.331 configuration of a V.35 system, you must also enable H.239 to send content. Installation Aethra Cisco Cisco Pix You cannot use the web interface to manually set the IP address through the startup wizard. Instead, set the IP address after you run the setup wizard, or run the setup wizard from the system's user interface. Encryption is not supported in H.320 calls with Aethra endpoints. Content is not supported between VSX systems through the Cisco IP gateway. In encrypted calls between two VSX systems through Cisco IP gateway, neither site can control the far end camera. In calls with a Cisco IP gateway, the call will not connect with H.239 turned on. To avoid this problem, disable H.239 on sites that will connect via the Cisco IP gateway. In an H.323 multipoint conference using a VSX system MCU located behind a Cisco PIX firewall among systems with H.239 enabled, the VSX systems outside of the firewall may not receive video when other sites connect. To avoid this problem, disable H.239 on all sites. A VSX system is unable to send dual streams when it is located behind a Cisco PIX with H.323 aware enabled. To resolve this problem, disable the H.323 aware feature on the Cisco PIX firewall. A VSX system is unable to control the far end camera when it is located behind a Cisco PIX firewall

14 Feature Cisco Pix Firewall France Telecom LinkSys Limitations The default settings for the Cisco Pix Firewall do not allow video conferencing calls to pass through. To configure the Cisco Pix Firewall to allow you to make video conferencing calls, follow these steps. 1. To turn off the Fixup H.323 Protocol feature, use the following command: no fixup protocol h323 h Configure Conduits or Access List Assignments for the following ports: TCP 1720 TCP TCP 3603 TCP 389 UDP Use the following command to configure conduits or access points: conduit permit tcp host eq port any Where is the external IP address of the SME Appliance. If an endpoint receives inbound video calls from outside the LAN, use the following command to create a static connection for each internal endpoint: static (inside,outside) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx iii.iii.iii.iii netmask No content can be sent or received when the VSX system is connected to France Telecom econf. The VSX system is unable to connect to France Telecom econf 3.5 when H.239 is enabled. Use of the VSX system with a wireless network bridge behind a LinkSys WRT54G wireless broadband router may be problematic and has not been qualified. If connectivity problems arise, ensure that the WRT54G has the latest available firmware installed on it. A system behind Linksys BEFSR41 will not receive calls. This is a problem with the BEFSR

15 Feature MGC PictureTel Sony Limitations When a VSX system joins an encrypted People+Content/H.239 continuous presence MGC multipoint call, the VSX system does not support far end camera control. The VSX system displays the near- and far-end mute icon when it mutes during H.323 gateway calls with the MGC100 gateway, but the far end may not be muted. This can occur when the MGC gateway session is set for transcoding and encryption. When the MGC dials out to the VSX system in H.323 ProMotion, it connects H.263 (no annexes) at 30 fps. This problem is due to a difference in the way the MGC and VSX system set rates in their video caps and how they use the caps to determine the call rate. The result is that a 768 Kbps call looks to the VSX system like a 704 Kbps call, so ProMotion is not selected as the transmit video mode. The workaround for this is to set the VSX system to do ProMotion at 512 Kbps and above. In calls between a VSX system and a PictureTel Concorde system, neither site can control the far end camera. In calls with a PictureTel Swiftsite or a PictureTel 760 system, the VSX system is not able to control the far site camera. The VSX system is unable to receive H.261 annex D snapshots from the PictureTel Swiftsite II (760) running or earlier software. The VSX system is unable to execute far end camera control functions with the PictureTel Swiftsite II (760) running or earlier software. In H.323 calls, the VSX system is sometimes unable to control the Sony PCS camera

16 Feature Tandberg VCON Limitations H.239 is not supported in H.323 point-to-point calls with non-mxp Tandberg endpoints running version E4.0 or lower. It is supported in H.320 point-to-point calls, but to avoid content display problems, always stop sending content from the VSX system prior to sending content from the Tandberg system. Tandberg MXP cannot control the VSX system camera in an encrypted H.323 call. The VSX system is unable to initiate H.320 calls at 768k and above with the Tandberg 6000 E4.0 system. The call connects successfully if the 6000 system initiates the call. H.239 is supported in H.320 point-to-point calls with Tandberg MXP systems starting with software release F1.3. To avoid content display problems, always stop sending content from the VSX system prior to sending content from the MXP system. H.239 is not supported in H.320 VSX system MP calls with Tandberg systems. Encryption is not supported with the Tandberg Gateway version 2.0 and earlier. In version 2.1, encryption is supported on the H.320 side of the call only. Natural Video must be disabled on Tandberg systems in order for calls with VSX systems to operate correctly. Enabling encryption mid-call on a Tandberg system is not supported. Encryption must be enabled prior to call establishment. Encryption is not supported in H.320 calls with the Tandberg MXP MCU. H.239 is not supported in H.320 calls with the Tandberg MXP MCU configured for continuous presence. H.239 is not supported in H.323 calls with the Tandberg MPS server release J1.1 or earlier. H.239 is supported in H.323 point-to-point calls with Tandberg MXP systems starting with Tandberg MXP release F1.3. To avoid content display problems, always stop sending content from the VSX system prior to sending content from the Tandberg system. H.239 is not supported in H.323 VSX system MP calls with Tandberg MXP systems. The VSX system does not receive video in H.323 voice activated switching conferences with the Tandberg 6000 E4.0 MCU. The problem does not occur in continuous presence conferences. In calls from a VSX system to the VCON MC8000, the VSX system cannot move the MC8000 camera. The VSX system cannot connect a call to VCON Falcon, VCON Escort, and Vtel Galaxy with H.239 enabled. To work around this problem, turn H.239 off

17 Feature ViewStation FX VoIP Zydacron Multipoint Network People+Content IP Limitations When a VSX system is sending content to a ViewStation FX, the FX should not take a snapshot. Instead, the VSX system should first stop sending content before the FX sends a snapshot. When a VSX system MCU calls both another VSX system and an audio-only IP endpoint (like a SoundStation IP 300), the call rate for the VSX system will be limited to 64K if you call the audio-only endpoint first. To work around this problem, always call all video endpoints first prior to calling audio-only IP endpoints. In ISDN multipoint calls with Zydacron350 and VSX 8000, the Zydacron350 may not send video if participants are added to the conference after the Zydacron unit. If this occurs, redial the Zydacron endpoint or have it be the last endpoint to join the conference. Video endpoints do not receive content from the VSX system MCU if a voice over IP site is the first site to connect. If another site connects before the VoIP site, all sites receive content as expected. On a VSX system in a multipoint chair control call, all far site systems see frozen video if you disconnect the endpoint that is the broadcaster. To restore video, select one of the remaining endpoints as the broadcaster. Cascading calls are limited to ten sites. Chair control is available through the web interface or API only. When a system behind a non-h.323 compatible NAT makes a call to an endpoint outside the NAT, the far site is unable to control the camera of the system behind the NAT. If you use People+Content IP with the Windows firewall enabled, be sure to configure the firewall to allow the application to proceed. If you continue to have problems, disable the Microsoft firewall when using People+Content IP. When you use People+Content IP to show content on a VSX system, if a dialog box is displayed on the VSX system interface, the People+Content IP content will continue to display on the VSX system even if Stop is pressed on the People+Content IP application until the dialog box is dismissed. On a PC with multiple monitors, you must either launch People+Content IP on monitor 1 or else set all monitors to the same output resolution

18 Feature Security SoftUpdate System Management UPnP Limitations When you set the Web Access Port on the Web VSX Security page, specify a port number of 1025 or greater, and make sure that the port is not already in use. If you set the Meeting Password using the web interface, use a password that includes only characters that can be entered using the remote control or onscreen keyboard. If you use characters that cannot be entered using the remote control or onscreen keyboard (such as! ), users will not be able to log in to a meeting from the video conferencing system. In an encrypted H.320 call, adding a voice over ISDN call causes the VSX system to show that the call is unencrypted. This indication represents that the voice call is unencryptedencryption remains in use on the H.320 video call. V.35 Calling Profile prefixes are not saved when you update the system software. When you install a previous software version, you must disable Save System Settings during the installation. Keeping your system settings when you downgrade the software results in unpredictable behavior. The VSX system can't make a V.35 call after a SoftUpdate has been performed. To avoid this problem, restart the system after completing the SoftUpdate. When you run a SoftUpdate on a QBRI or PRI system, the system may sometimes identify the QBRI or PRI interface as new. If this happens, follow the instructions on the screen to reconfigure the settings. Web monitoring provides the live video (people) stream, but not the content being shared. Only SNMP traps are supported. Fixed Ports must be disabled to use the UPnP feature. UPnP initialization will succeed when a single IGD is discovered on the network. When using UPnP to configure your NAT/firewall router for use with your VSX system, it is recommended that you assign a static IP address to your VSX system, as this guarantees that its internal address will not change and call forwarding from the NAT/firewall router will not be affected. If you use DHCP, please be aware that under some circumstances a NAT/firewall router may assign a different IP address upon a power cycle, and this can adversely affect the router's ability to correctly forward incoming calls. If this occurs, power off your VSX system, reboot your NAT/firewall router, then restart your VSX system

19 Feature User Interface Video Limitations On the VSX 8000 web interface, the VCR/DVD Audio Always Out option is not displayed. The VSX Web Call Summary page (System Setup / Diagnostics / System Status / Call Summary) does not include a Serial Calls section listing V.35 calls. The calls are included in the total call number. To see a listing of V.35 calls, refer to the system UI. Incoming POTS calls are not recorded in Recent Calls list. Outgoing POTS calls are listed correctly. Systems that are configured to use a UPnP NAT and are registered with a gatekeeper do not display the E.164 extension on the Place a Call screen. When you disable the Polycom microphones through Admin Settings > Audio > Audio Settings, the microphone status does not indicate the disabled status on the Diagnostics > System screen, showing the normal green arrow. In non-english language versions of the system's web interface, tooltips for the Web Director display in English. The scheduling application dials one entry in the address book; this may be a multi-site entry. Changing the monitor setting to or from Dual Monitor Emulation may cause unexpected screen layout. To resolve this problem, reboot the system. The system does not support H.264 or ProMotion during multipoint calls. While H.264 is supported, H.264* is not

20 Feature VTX 1000 Integration Limitations When a SoundStation VTX 1000 connected to a VSX system calls another SoundStation VTX 1000 connected to a VSX system, the analog icon is displayed in the near screen along with the VTX icon and encryption status. When you place a H.323 call from a VSX system connected to a SoundStation VTX 1000 and then use the phone to add an audio call, muting the VSX system's microphones blocks the audio endpoint from hearing audio. When a SoundStation VTX 1000 attempts to add video when connected to a V.35 system and ISDN call speed is set to 384k, the call speed is ignored and the SoundStation VTX 1000 dials 128k. On a VSX 6000 with a SoundStation VTX 1000 attached, the Call Type choice is disabled when you use the Web Director to place a call. When you place a point-to-point call from the VSX system to a bridge (MGC or Ezenia) and then place an audio call from the SoundStation VTX 1000, muting the VSX system or SoundStation VTX 1000 mutes all sites in the call, instead of muting only the local site. If you place a call from a VSX 8000 with a SoundStation VTX 1000 running firmware revision 1.4 attached to another video endpoint and then use the VTX 1000 to call another VTX 1000, the audio from the VTX 1000 has much more bass and slightly less volume than the audio received from the other video endpoint. This problem is resolved by installing VTX firmware revision 1.5. You must have the VTX 1.5 firmware in order to use the new SoundStation VTX 1000 features

21 Feature Web Interface Limitations If you use the Web UI to join a conference with a meeting password, the meeting password you enter is also set as the meeting password for your system. This does not happen if you enter the password using the remote control and the UI. When saving a multisite entry in the Web UI with category set as Global, if immediately after saving the entry the category is changed to Local, the VSX system saves the entry twice in the Local directory. In addition, if the category is changed back to Global again, the entry will resave two more times. To avoid this problem, do not change the category after saving entries, or leave the Directory screen and then reenter the Directory screen and change the category. After you create a multisite entry in the Directory via the Web UI and then try to create another multisite entry, the participants you entered for the previous entry will appear in participants window. When you change the ISDN Switch Protocol from the system's web interface and then click Update, only the first line is shown. If you wait 5-10 seconds and press refresh, all four lines are shown again. Web streaming provides video at a reduced frame rate. The content being shared in the call is not available for Web streaming

22 The VSX series is tested extensively with a wide range of products. The following list is not a complete inventory of compatible equipment; it simply indicates the products that have been tested for compatibility with this release. Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may make different selections. This process should not affect the quality of the call.
