3 What is e-resources? An electronic resources is an electronic information sources or a collection of information (ejournals, ebooks, bibliographic data / information etc.) that are accessed by computer either directly (such as CD-ROM) or remotely via a network (such as internet). E- Resources can be accessed on or off campus 24/7 and access usually through authentication. Types of e-resources There are three types of e-resources. E-book Electronic version of printed books which may be published individually or in a series or a collection of electronically published books made available via the Internet. Online database A collections of hundred of journal titles which are accessible through network including internet and acquired through annual subscriptions. Most of the databases offer full text access to articles including abstracts/indexes. Some of these journal have embargo period by the publisher which is normally between 1 to 12 months. E-Journals Issues of specific academic journal title containing articles of the current or accumulation of a series of a journal titles made available in electronic format. They may contain a full text record, or only provided with abstract or index. The UBD Library subscribes to a number of general and specialised e-resources that are accessible via the DiLibraryUBD Portal. These resources are available by logging into: 1

4 Online Databases UBD Library subscribes to several databases: ACM Digital Library ACM Digital library is a comprehensive collection of of full-text articles and bibliographic records covering the fields of computing and information technology. With 391,000 full-text articles, the database has 44+ high impact journals, conference proceedings, magazines, technical newsletters, and video and audio files. It is also integrated with and includes unrestricted access to the Guide to Computing Literature bibliography. Clinical Keys Clinical Key gives access to Elsevier s current medical and surgical content including: First Consult Top journals Best-selling medical and surgical books Thousands of medical videos, millions of images, and much more content across 12 distinct content types. Cochrane Library Provides high-quality data in a collection of evidence-based medicine databases. Updated quarterly. 2

5 EBSCOHost Provides access to various databases, some containing full text articles. The University of Brunei Darussalam subscribes to: Academic Search Premier -- Communication & Mass Media Complete -- European Views of the Americas: 1493 to MAS Ultra : School Edition. Econlit Accessible under Ovid platform, the American Economic Association s electronic bibliography, EconLit, indexes over 120 years of economics literature from around the world. This online reference source is compiled and abstracted in an an easily searchable format. It is a comprehensive index of journal articles, books, book reviews, collective volume articles, working papers and dissertations. Emerald Full-text access to over 197 journals, covering management, human resources, information management, library services, marketing, operations, and quality control. (Access for journals subscribed by UBD Library only) 3

6 Academic OneFile JUN 2013 Large full-text database covering topics from science, technology, and medicine to the humanities. GREENR (JUN 2013) Cengage Learning - GREENR (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources) Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center JUN 2011 Provides a complete one-stop source for information on social issues with access to viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper article. Geology Online Published by the Geological Society of America, the journal Geology publishes timely, innovative, and provocative articles relevant to its international audience, representing research from all fields of the geosciences. The archive (full text and abstracts) goes as far back as 1973 to present. 4

7 Global books in Print BOOKS IN PRINT has 2.4 million bibliographic records and over 300,000 full text reviews from eleven leading sources (book publishers). Coverage includes books, videos and audio recordings. JSTOR JSTOR is a digital library of more than 1,500 academic journals, books, and primary sources. As a journal archive, no current coverage is available. Journals include full content from their inception to a moving point in the past (typically 1-5 years, but can be as many as 10 years ago). This database is a great resource for older materials and primary source materials. (Only the Arts & Sciences III Collection is accessible to UBD Library users) Official Document System Official Document System (ODS) is a premier full-text web resource for official United Nations documentation which are freely available for the general public. It provides valuable United Nations official documents that covers all types of official United Nations documentation originating from duty stations worldwide, including selective documents of the regional commissions: ESCWA, ESCAP, ECLAC and ECE. 5

8 Ovid SP Ovid or OvidSP is an internationally recognized leader in medical information services, that also offers research productivity tools on the a wide range of core and niche scientific, medical, and healthcare disciplines namely Medicine; Nursing & Health Professions; Behavioral Sciences; Basic Sciences and Humanities & Technologies The platform offers access to Ovid Journals (Journals@Ovid Full Text) and EconLit. OvidMD is also accessible through this platform by clicking one of the search menus. Ovid MD OvidMD, is a clinical tool that provides quick answers to a physician s questions based on relevant, current full-text content from Ovid. OvidMD searches through Ovid MEDLINE, evidence-based guidelines, and all the key clinical full-text journals, books and databases that we subscribed all in a single search. You can also access to UpToDate s synoptic, point-of-care content together with Ovid s-full-text and bibliographic content in the same easy-to-use interface and the search results from UpToDate will be displayed in OvidMD in real time and the exact same order as UpToDate (Accessible through Ovid platform (OvidSP) by clicking one of the search menus) Oxford University Press A full-text online access to electronic journal from Oxford University Press. Discipline covered are Economics, humanities, law, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences, medicine and social 6

9 ProQuest Dissertations & Theses This database is the world s most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses from around the world and offering full text for most of the dissertations added since Royal Society Journals The Royal Society publishes nine journals covering the broad spectrum of the life sciences, physical sciences and cross-disciplinary sciences. More detailed information can be found for each journal, namely Philosophical Transaction A devoted to a specific, topical area of the physical sciences; Philosophical Transaction B devoted to a specific, topical area of the biological sciences; Proceedings A for research articles in the mathematical, physical and engineering sciences; Proceedings B for biological research, dedicated to the fast publication and worldwide dissemination of high-quality research, etc. A link to each journal's homepage is provided. All Royal Society journals offer an open access option for authors. (Royal Society Publishing is the publishing division of the Royal Society) SAGE Journals Online SAGE Journals Online provides access to journals in the subject areas of Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Technology and Medicine 7

10 Science Direct This database provides access to the electronic versions of the Elsevier journals and books that we subscribe to. Current issues and back files are included. Currently, it includes more than 1,200 journals. The full text collection contains over 1.5 million articles and book chapters from 1995 to present across all fields of science. SciFinder Registration A user registration for SciFinder is required for a first time user. Click Accept under the License Agreement and you will be given a username and password to proceed with the usage of SciFinder database. SciFinder User s Access Login ID and password required for those who have ralready registered under SciFinder Registration to use SciFinder database. 11 Scopus Scopus is a multidisciplinary database indexing 16,500 peer reviewed titles in health, sciences, engineering, social sciences, psychology, and economics. Access over 25 million abstracts with coverage dating back to 1966, links to full text are available where subscriptions exist. Swetswise SwetsWise provides access to the tables of contents and abstracts of titles from various publishers. SwetsWise provides online full text access to journals to which the University of Brunei Darussalam Library subscribes. The journals are from a wide range of disciplines including the arts, geography, history, language, medicine, philosophy, religion, science, social sciences and technology. UpToDate UpToDate is the premier evidence-based clinical decision support resource authored by physicians to help healthcare practitioners make the best decisions at the point of care. Essential for a medical practice group, clinicians and even patients for answers in diagnostic and treatment decisions which are evidence-based and thoroughly peer reviewed by world renowned experts. Users are directed straight away to the search function after clicking the link to UpToDate. You can also access to UpToDate s synoptic, point-of-care content together with Ovid s-full-text and bibliographic content in the same easy-to-use interface and the search results from UpToDate will be displayed in OvidMD in real time and the exact same order as UpToDate 9

12 WizFolio Wizfolio is an online research collaboration tool for knowledge discovery. It can easily manage and share all types of information in a citation ready format including research papers, patents, documents, books, YouTube videos, web snippets and a lot more. You can search Pubmed, Google Books, YouTube, Bing, Amazon Books within WizFolio. You can batch upload your PDF's and documents, and WizFolio will attempt to get the bibliographic data. It also collaborates citing across operating systems and document formats like Microsoft Word. Also automatically imports free PDFs into your online collection via WizAdd, Wizfolio Web Importer where Bibliographic data is imported directly from over 200 scientific publishers (IEEE, Springer Wiley, Nature, Science) and databases (Google Scholar, Scopus, ISI, JSTOR, Proquest, etc). 10

13 Beside the above databases, the following online databases are also available through DiLibraryUBD Portal under VILIS project: ABI/INFORM Global ABI/INFORM Global is one of the most comprehensive business databases on the market. It includes in-depth coverage for over 3,730 publications, with more than 2,670 available in full text. ABI/INFORM Global offers the latest business and financial information for researchers at all levels. Subject coverage includes business conditions, management techniques, business trends, management practice and theory, corporate strategy and tactics, and competitive landscape. ACS Legacy Archives ACS Legacy Archives provides fulltext access to 23 titles, volumes, issues, and articles published by the American Chemical Society (ACS) from 1879 to American Institute Physics American Institute of Physics Full text access to 18 the American Institute of Physics, journals focusing on interdisciplinary and applied topics in physics, astronomy and related fields of science and technology. Coverage: Varies according to title. 11

Provides full text access to the 6 APS journals with archival access to all APS titles as far back as 1893 through PROLA (Physical Reviews Online Archive). Coverage Varies according to title American Society Of Civil Engineers ASCE is the world's largest publisher of civil engineering information. Includes a searchable database and access to individual journal titles published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It also includes news, author's guides, etc. Annual Reviews Annual Reviews publishes authoritative, analytic reviews in 32 scientific disciplines including biological, medical, physical, and social sciences Kids InfoBits is a database developed especially for beginning researchers in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Featuring a developmentally appropriate, visually graphic interface, the most popular search method is moving from a broad subject to a narrower topic using the subject-based topic tree. The curriculum-related, age appropriate, full-text content is from the best elementary reference sources and magazines. This database covers geography, current events, the arts, science, health, people, government, history. 12

15 ProQuest Accounting & Tax Comprehensive coverage of accounting and tax topics appearing in key industry publications and newspapers. The quintessential accountant s databases. ProQuest Banking Information Source Search essential banking industry publications providing information about the financial services industry, banking, and industry trends. ProQuest Central This is an online reference resource featuring a highly-respected, diversified mix of content including scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, books, newspapers, reports and videos. It is also a central resource for researchers at all levels, with the largest aggregated database of periodical content, covering more than 160 subjects areas, including business and economics, humanities, technology, etc. ProQuest K12 This is a research database resource offering a complete lineup of classroom- and library-focused, subscription-based research tools. Many of these education solutions offer elementary, middle, and high schools content that is reading level-linked, supports 21st-century information literacy, and helps differentiate instruction across all K-12 curriculum areas. 13
