2 The scheme Brunel University is a registered sponsor under the new UKBA Graduate Entrepreneur route Sponsor ten students in TIER 1 Graduate Entrepreneur category Develop world class, innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills establish a business in the UK. One year Visa :opportunity to develop their new business idea Adequate progress in their business idea -may be able to apply for one further year s sponsorship May be eligible and able to transfer into TIER 1 (Entrepreneur) at end of sponsorship

3 Eligibility Criteria Non-EEA national graduates Awarded a Brunel degree (Bachelors, Masters or Research) in the 12 months prior to the sponsorship Have a genuine, credible and innovative business idea No existing job offer Currently on a Student or TIER 4 Student visa Proof of maintenance funds of 900 in a bank account for 90 days immediately prior to the date of visa application Written consent from their sponsor for sponsored students Adequate funding to cover their maintenance costs for the year. No recourse to public funds and no supporting funds will be provided by the University or Business Mentors

4 Process STEP 1 Application live at: Graduate_Entrepreneur_Application Attach in PDF format: 1. CV (must cover current and past education and all relevant paid and voluntary work experience) 2. Cover letter (should provide evidence of personal commitment to entrepreneurship, previous examples of entrepreneurship) 3. Summary of one or two business ideas (300 words maximum, to include description of the business idea, proposed customer base, USPs, etc) 4. Copy of current visa Deadline 9a.m. on July 16 th 2012

5 Process STEP 2 Short-listing by panel Short-listed candidates informed by by July 25 th Maximum of 30 applicants will be short-listed Compulsory attendance at Brunel Enterprise Bootcamp on 6 th and 7 th August 2012 Focus on areas of business development Ideas generation, market research, finance and presentation skills STEP 3 Submission of business ideas Submission of Business plan by 9 a.m. on 13 th August All applicants will be informed of the final selection by by 22 nd August 2012

6 Key dates 9a.m. on July 16 th 2012 Application submission deadline July 25 th 2012 Short-listed candidates informed by 6 th and 7 th August 2012 Brunel Enterprise Bootcamp 9 a.m. on 13 th August 2012 Submission of Business plan 22 nd August 2012 Final selection and notification

7 Next steps Each successful applicant will be allocated a business mentor Once the successful applicant s degree has been awarded, the University will inform the UKBA Before writing to the UKBA we will ask for the applicants permission to provide their personal details. Successful candidates will need to make a new visa application for TIER 1 Graduate Entrepreneur within 3 months of the endorsement.

8 Requirements A genuine, credible and innovative business idea Majority of working time must be spent developing idea Stay in regular contact with endorsing institution Agreed series of face-to-face meetings and written progress reports Unsatisfactory progress on the business idea, or non-compliance with the visa regulations, may lead to withdrawal of sponsorship.
