CHAPTER 1 Bandwidth.com SIP Trunk Integration This guide describes how to integrate the EasyCall Gateway with Bandwidth.com SIP trunks. The integration described in this guide can be done in tandem with EasyCall Gateway installation and configuration, which includes defining the properties of the SIP trunk and defining any changes the EasyCall Gateway makes to telephone numbers before sending them to the telephony system for dialing. The following topics describe integration with Bandwidth.com: Bandwidth.com SIP Trunking Introduction on page 2 Equipment Requirements on page 3 Bandwidth.com Integration on page 3 EasyCall Gateway Configuration on page 3 Verifying the Integration on page 5 Call Detail Records on page 6
2 EasyCall Gateway Telephony System Integrator s Guide Bandwidth.com SIP Trunking Introduction Bandwidth.com offers advanced voice over Internet (VoIP), Internet services, and managed network services to small and medium businesses nationwide including SIP trunk services in both the US and Canada. SIP trunks allow businesses to make phone calls using their PBX phone systems over an Internet connection. Session Initiation Protocol, or SIP, is the common signaling protocol for Internet telephony, conferencing, and instant messaging. SIP trunks are typically used in conjunction with an IP-PBX and are an alternative to traditional PRI or analog circuits. The popularity of SIP trunks is due primarily to the cost savings and increased reliability. Contact Bandwidth.com for applicable rates for domestic and international calling. SIP trunks are virtual circuits delivered over an Internet Access line. Depending on the number of SIP trunks purchased and the amount of other Internet connectivity, a business may require additional Internet connectivity. Integrating the EasyCall Gateway directly to carrier provided SIP trunks does not require modification to your existing telephone system or Internet connections. There is no need for purchasing PRI (T1 or EI) hardware, no PBX upgrades, and no PBX configuration. SIP trunks can be ordered and configured in a few days. Only outbound SIP trunks are required and typically cost $10 per virtual trunk along with a long distance rate that can be under 2 cents per call. You can order only the number of trunk channels that you require. With Bandwidth.com there are no charges for IntraLATA calls (calls within the local calling area). Thus, calls originated by local PBX users or even users within the LATA using EasyCall do not pay for local calls. Calls made from any phone outside of the LATA to interlata numbers (long distance or international) will be charged for two calls. For more information about Bandwidth.com trunks, please contact Kristen Moore at
Chapter 1 Bandwidth.com SIP Trunk Integration 3 Equipment Requirements Only the EasyCall Gateway appliance is required to integrate with an Bandwidth.com telephony system. The following diagram shows the integrated components. EasyCall Gateway integrated with Bandwidth.com As shown in the diagram, the SIP trunk makes telephone calls over an Internet connection to Bandwidth.com. The use of SIP trunks does not require modification to your existing telephony system or Internet connections and does not require additional hardware. Only outbound SIP trunks are required; the number of trunk channels used can be scaled to your needs. For information on capacity planning, refer to the EasyCall Gateway Administrator s Guide. Bandwidth.com Integration You must provide Bandwidth.com with the public IP address of your EasyCall Gateway for provisioning. Bandwidth.com will provide you with the public IP address for their network, which is needed for EasyCall Gateway configuration. EasyCall Gateway Configuration The following topics describe integration requirements specific to Bandwidth.com. For information on other configuration requirements, refer to the EasyCall Gateway Administrator s Guide. Configuring the External Public IP Address on page 3 Configuring the SIP Trunk on page 4 Configuring the External Public IP Address If the EasyCall Gateway is located on a NAT behind a firewall, you must configure packet forwarding of SIP responses from a publicly routable IP address to the IP address of your gateway. You must provide this external public IP address to Bandwidth.com when ordering the SIP trunk. Bandwidth.com will send all responses to that address and they will be forwarded to your EasyCall Gateway.
4 EasyCall Gateway Telephony System Integrator s Guide To specify the external IP address 1. In the administration tool, click Cluster Configuration. 2. On the Nodes tab, click the Master node link. 3. Click the General tab. 4. Enter the SIP External IP Address outside your firewall that will forward SIP and RTP packets to your EasyCall Gateway. 5. Enter your SIP Local Network address, which will be similar to your EasyCall Gateway address. For example, if your EasyCall Gateway is , your local network address might be / Click Submit. Note The ports that need to be forwarded between the publicly routable IP address and the EasyCall Gateway are: UDP Port 5060 (SIP) UDP Ports Configuring the SIP Trunk You configure the SIP trunk to specify switch settings and configure call handling. Note When you change EasyCall Agent configuration, you must let users know that they need to restart the EasyCall Agent client to update it with the changes. To define the properties of the SIP trunk 1. In the administration tool, click Cluster Configuration > Trunks. 2. Double-click the trunk name you want to configure. 3. Enter the IP address of the SIP proxy provided by Bandwidth.com. Defaults to Enter the port on which the telephony system receives SIP calls. Defaults to 5060.
Chapter 1 Bandwidth.com SIP Trunk Integration 5 5. Leave User Name and Secret blank. (These settings, requird by some SIP carriers to authenticate to their network, do not apply to Bandwidth.com.) 6. Select Use E164 Dialing. Use E164 Dialing normalizes the dialed numbers to the E.164 format required by Bandwidth.com. 7. Click Submit. After configuring the EasyCall Gateway for operation with Bandwidth.com, it is not necessary to restart the gateway. You can immediately start placing calls over the SIP trunk. Verifying the Integration Install EasyCall on one or more user PCs and place different types of calls (domestic, international).
6 EasyCall Gateway Telephony System Integrator s Guide Call Detail Records Call Detail Records are available at the my.bandwidth.com portal. Log in and then click the My Tools button at the top of the page. Under the Numbers Info section, click the Call detail reports link. To allocate charges to users and departments, you need Billing Data Records (BDRs). BDRs add the different associated charges (intrastate, interstate, local, and so on) to the Call Detail Records. To allocate charges to users and departments, you can arrange to obtain BDRs by contacting bandwidth.com.
