1 FIRE & SAFETY DIVISION PROGRAMS & COURSES (2015) EDUCATION PATH The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) Fire & Safety Division provides academic studies and professional continuing education that is relevant, practical, informed by research, and meets professional standards for fire and rescue services personnel. Programs offered range from introductory hands-on technical courses to advanced diploma and degree programs. 2 FIRE & SAFETY DIVISION PROGRAMS BACHELOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (60 CREDITS) Designed for active mid-career public safety personnel Interdisciplinary approach to analyzing and solving complex issues in public safety Delivered entirely online Develops technical, managerial and administrative competencies FIRE & SAFETY STUDIES DIPLOMA (60 CREDITS) Designed for active mid-career fire service personnel Delivered entirely online, with some additional classroom electives Equivalent to the first two years of the Bachelor of Public Safety Administration FIRE OFFICER CERTIFICATE (30 CREDITS) Designed for experienced fire officers and fire officer candidates Delivered online or in a classroom Equivalent to the first year of the Fire & Safety Studies Diploma and Bachelor s degree Graduates receive professional certification for NFPA 1021 and 1041 FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER CERTIFICATE (30 CREDITS) Designed for fire service members responsible for fire prevention, investigation and/or public education and individuals working in industry that could utilize a skilled Fire Prevention Officer Graduates will receive professional certification for NFPA 1031, 1033, 1041, and 1035 Delivered online or in a classroom Equivalent to the first year of the Fire & Safety Studies Diploma and Bachelor s degree FIRE FIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES CERTIFICATE Prepares individuals to apply for the position of Career Fire Fighter Graduates will receive professional certificates, including: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and II (FF I & II) and NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations The Fire & Safety Division provides all British Columbia Fire Departments with firefighter training that meets the BC Structure Firefighters Competency and Training Playbook. The learning experience is further enhanced by an impressive range of facilities, training props and resources and a learnercentered curriculum. Through contract training we can further customize our training to meet the specific needs of your organization. If NFPA certification is not required, we can adapt content for skills maintenance, simulation-based training, and to incorporate organization standard operating procedures. For some certification training, we can customize the practical scenarios to reflect the response requirements and types of incidents in your jurisdiction.
