11 Immersive technology Immersive technology is a computer-generated simulation of reality with physical, spatial and visual dimensions. An exciting area of computing used in art, entertainment and gaming as well as by industry, education and for medical purposes.

12 Intelligent Computing Intelligent Computing; advanced computing methods and techniques based on classical computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, and intelligent agents. Apply your knowledge on real life projects and work placements with our new degree. Computer science is a rapidly area and gaining new knowledge and skills is critical to the success of complex information systems for businesses and organisations. Our new degree is similar to a traditional computer science degree and has a strong emphasis on the principles of computer science and practical programming. You will gain an understanding of the fundamental theory, principles and contemporary issues in intelligent computing and the computing techniques that are making an impact on businesses and organisations.

13 Computing Philosophy What exactly is computation? Is a computer just an electronic brain or is there a fundamental difference? Is there a difference between the ways in which a computer and a human solve problems? What is intelligence? Is machine intelligence different to human intelligence? Are there limits to what computers can and can't do? Are some problems harder than others? What does the future of Computing look like? How does computing relate to the rest of technology? Can computers continue to get smaller, faster and more powerful or is there some natural limit? What are the social, legal, ethical and environmental impacts of technological development? Will quantum computing, biological computing or optical computing take over from conventional electronic computing? Will we reach a point at which computers and robots are better and more powerful than humans? What will happen then?

20 Timetable Format The Working Week is from Monday to Friday The Working Day is from 09:00 to 1800 The Computer Laboratories are open from 0830 until 2100, Monday to Thursday (until 1730 on Fridays) The average week consists of: 8 hours of Lectures 8 hours of Tutorials 8 hours of Directed Study 12 hours of Private Study
