1 Resources to Support Returning Veterans and Families in Oregon VETERAN RESOURCES Center for Women Veterans Health at the Portland VA , Ext (outside of Portland) Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Centers MIRECC centers were established by Congress with the goal of researching the causes and treatments of mental disorders and using education to put new knowledge into routine clinical practice for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Portland VA Medical Center Portland State University Veterans Services PSU has a long and proud tradition of providing quality educational services to Oregon's returning veterans. PSU was established specifically to provide veterans returning from World War II with a state-supported university in the Portland metro area. Veterans Services: Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) Referral center for Oregon, southern Washington and parts of Idaho SW US Veterans Hospital Road Portland OR (outside of Portland) Returning Combat Veterans Portland VA Medical Center Resource for routine care for all returning OEF and OIF combat Veterans needing primary care, behavioral health and case management services , Ext , Ext (outside of Portland) 1
2 VETERAN AND FAMILY RESOURCES Military Child and Youth Deployment Support Program American Academy of Pediatrics An online resource designed to support military youth, families, and the youth serving professionals caring for this population. Military OneSource 24/7 toll-free information and referral telephone service available worldwide to active duty, Reserve, and National Guard military members and their families, and deployed civilians and their families. Face-to-face counseling can be provided for up to six sessions per issue with professional civilian counselors at no cost service member or family member (available in the United States and Puerto Rico only) Meloni Beauchamp, MOS Consultant for Portland Military Projects at Zero to Three National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families National Resource Directory, Labor and Veterans Affairs A resource for wounded, ill and injured Service members, Veterans, families, and for individuals is support roles. National, state and local resources focus on recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration. Visitors can find information on a variety of topics including benefits & compensation, education & training, employment, family & caregiver support, health, homeless assistance, housing, transportation & travel and other services & resources. CHAMPVA is for the spouse or widow(er) or children of a Veteran who: Rated permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability. Rated permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability at the time of death. Died of a service-connected disability. Died on active duty and the dependents are not eligible for TRICARE. 6
7 Providers: Most Medicare and TRICARE providers will also accept CHAMPVA. Mental Health Treatment: Twenty-three outpatient psychotherapy visits a year not to exceed two psychotherapy visits per week in any combination of individual, family or group therapy. PROVIDER RESOURCES Defense Center of Excellence (DCoE) Assesses, validates, oversees and facilitates prevention, resilience, identification, treatment, outreach, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs for psychological health (PH) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) to ensure the meets the needs of the nation's military communities, warriors and families Deployment Health Clinical Center A resource designed to assist clinicians in the delivery of post-deployment healthcare Iraq War Clinician Guide Developed by members of the National Center for PTSD and the specifically for clinicians and addresses the unique needs of veterans of the Iraq war. Military Health System A global medical network focused on cutting-edge health care for all U.S. military personnel worldwide. Military and civilian health care professionals can submit questions, share ideas and recognize peers interactively. 7
