( Significance of the Product Differentiation Excellence Award Key Industry Challenges security vendors face ever-evolving customer demands regarding malware detection/prevention, the blocking of targeted phishing s, and meeting government compliance and data protection regulations. One of the major challenges security vendors face is the lack of technological variance within their solutions. Despite slight variances within security solutions, weak product differentiation remains a current restraint in today s Content Security market. Customers are unsure which solutions will rapidly meet compliance while providing strong and dependable security against modern day attacks. To gain market strength and customer satisfaction, most security vendors are developing new strategies from internal research and development labs or acquiring smaller security firms in order to differentiate their solutions from their competitors. However, evolving malware URLs, social engineering tactics, and targeted spam attacks make up all new key challenges that today s security companies must tackle. 3 Key Benchmarking Criteria for the Product Differentiation Excellence Award For the Product Differentiation Excellence Award, the following criteria were used to benchmark Proofpoint s performance against key competitors: Unique Features/Functionality Quality/Complexity Customization Matched to Target Markets Needs Brand Perception Decision Support Matrix and Measurement Criteria To support its evaluation of best practices across multiple business performance categories, Frost & Sullivan employs a customized Decision Support Matrix (DSM). The DSM is an analytical tool that compares companies performance relative to each other with an integration of quantitative and qualitative metrics. The DSM features criteria unique to each Award category and ranks importance by assigning weights to each criterion. The relative weighting reflects current market conditions and illustrates the associated importance of each criterion according to Frost & Sullivan. Fundamentally, each DSM is distinct for each market and Award category. The DSM allows our research and consulting teams to objectively analyze each company's performance on each criterion relative to its top competitors and assign performance ratings on that basis. The DSM follows a 10-point scale that allows for nuances in performance evaluation; ratings guidelines are shown in Chart1. Chart1: Performance-Based Ratings for Decision Support Matrix This exercise encompasses all criteria, leading to a weighted average ranking of each company. Researchers can then easily identify the company with the highest ranking. Unique features include big data analysis techniques, URL interception, and malware sandboxing techniques to provide full content security protection while providing follow-the-sun protection, whether users are on corporate online/offline networks, mobile devices or public terminals.
