Class format will primarily be lecture. The overlap between lecture and reading will be variable. You are responsible for both sets of information for exams. This class will also give you an opportunity to complete a variety of measures of personality characteristics. Textbook: Funder, D.C. (2013). The Personality Puzzle (6 th edition), New York: W.W. Norton & Co. (There is also an e-book version of the text). Exams. Exams will be multiple choice. Five examinations will be administered, though only 4 will count toward your final grade (25% each). The first four exams will be non-cumulative, whereas the optional fifth exam will be. Your worst exam grade will be dropped. No makeup exams will be given. Because you may drop an exam, a missed exam will simply be considered your dropped grade. If you miss two exams, the second will be given an F. Grading. Grades are assigned as percentages of the highest total attained in the class. This means that the curve will depend on the highest score obtained in the class. Everyone can do well, if everyone obtains a grade close to the highest in the class. (I am under no obligation to give out bad grades someone is guaranteed to get an A, but no one has to get an F). Letter grades are assigned as follows: 93% and up of highest grade = A 73-77% of highest grade = C 90-92% of highest grade = A % of highest grade = C % of highest grade = B % of highest grade = D % of highest grade = B 63-67% of highest grade = D 80-82% of highest grade = B % of highest grade = D % of highest grade = C+ Less than 59% = F last revised: 1/22/2013 1

Please note that this syllabus may change as the semester progresses. Any modifications will be announced in class and the modified syllabus will be added to Blackboard. Whether or not changes are made, the instructor will clarify the scope of material to be covered on each exam during the week before each exam date.
