Dear member, Important news for MTAA Super members I am writing to advise you of some important changes to your insurance cover with MTAA Super that will come into effect on 1 March MTAA Super understands the importance of insurance and offers a range of life insurance options to provide for you and your family if you are unable to work for a long period due to sickness or injury, are permanently disabled, or die. MTAA Super offers default insurance arrangements which are applied automatically for members who do not actively elect their own type and level of cover subject to terms and conditions. MTAA Super partners with a group life insurer to provide its insurance options and the current insurer is MetLife. Why is your insurance cover changing? In recent years, group insurance premiums have risen substantially across the superannuation industry, as Australian insurance companies including MetLife have seen rising costs, a significant increase in the number of claims and new rules requiring insurers to hold more capital in reserve. As a result MTAA Super has now seen an increase in the prices offered by its insurer. Acknowledging the price increases, MTAA Super has reviewed and considered the most appropriate way to structure its insurance arrangements to best meet the competing insurance and retirement saving needs of its membership. While insurance is a valuable protection in the event of a member s death or disablement, it is also important that the premiums do not unduly reduce a member s end retirement benefit. How will you be affected? From 1 March 2015, there will be changes to the insurance arrangements as they apply to MTAA Super s membership. The changes are explained in the enclosed Important changes to your insurance cover booklet. It is important that you read the booklet to understand how the changes will affect you. 3 Important changes to your insurance cover Effective Date: 1 March 2015 Date of issue: 19 January 2015 MTAA Super has recently reviewed its current insurance arrangements for members. MetLife Insurance Limited will continue to provide insurance cover, however changes to the current arrangements have been made. The changes which will apply from 1 March 2015 are explained in this booklet. It is important that you read the information in this booklet as: Phone: Fax: The cost of your cover will increase; The level of Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover provided to members under the Fund s default arrangements will decrease; A new TPD definition will apply. The new definition is more stringent than the current definition and has two parts; Definition A and Definition B. You will be entitled to 80% of your TPD sum insured if Definition A applies to you and has been satisfied. To obtain your remaining 20% TPD sum insured, you must also concurrently satisfy Definition B. You will be entitled to 100% of your TPD sum insured if Definition B only applies to you and has been satisfied. You will cease to have any cover if you receive some or all of your TPD benefit (i.e. the remaining portion of your TPD sum insured (if any) and your death cover will cease). Where the Active Employment test applies in the current policy terms, it will now be applied for 30 consecutive days. If you are unsure about what these changes mean for you, please contact the MTAA Super Customer Service Centre for more information on A new version of the MTAA Super Product Disclosure Statement and Insurance Guide will be available on 1 March Increase in premium for all members From 1 March 2015, there will be a change to the cost of cover that will affect all insured members. Death cover will increase to $0.74 per unit per week (currently $0.50) and TPD cover will increase to $1.36 per unit per week (currently $0.50). Reduction in Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover for default members From 1 March 2015, members with default cover will have the number of their TPD units reduced. New MTAA Super members are automatically provided with default cover (subject to terms and conditions). The level of cover provided to you is based on your age at the time you become a member and may change in line with your age.

The following table shows the increase in premium and the reduction in TPD units for members with default cover for each age group. DEFAULT COVER Age next birthday Units - current cost per week - current units - effective 1 March 2015 cost per week - effective 1 March Death / 5 TPD $ Death / 3 TPD $ Death / 5 TPD $ Death / 3 TPD $ Death / 6 TPD $ Death / 3 TPD $8.52 Members with Death or Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover outside of the default arrangement Unitised cover If you have applied for additional insurance cover, changed your workscale or have chosen to have fewer units of cover than applies under the default arrangement, you will retain the number of units that you currently hold but the amount you pay for this cover will increase. To calculate your new weekly premium, multiply the number of units you have by the new weekly cost per unit. For example: If you have 3 units of Death and 3 units of TPD, your total premium will increase from $3.00 to $6.30 per week. Death cover: 3 units x $0.74=$2.22 (current cost $1.50) TPD cover: 3 units x $1.36= $4.08 (current cost $1.50) Total cost of cover: $6.30 per week (current cost $3.00) You can check how many units of cover you currently have by logging into Member SuperSite or call the MTAA Super Customer Service Centre on Fixed Cover From 1 March 2015, members with Fixed cover will maintain their level of cover but the cost of this cover will increase. To calculate your weekly premium, take the amount of cover you have, divide by 1000 and multiply the premium for your age according to the table on the next page. For example: If you are aged 32 next birthday, are eligible for the professional workscale and have $500,000 worth of cover, your total premium will increase from $4.70 to $10.00 per week. Death cover: 500,000/1,000 x 0.007=$3.50 (current cost $2.35) TPD cover: 500,000/1,000 x 0.013=$6.50 (current cost $2.35) Total cost of cover: $10.00 per week (current cost $4.70) You can check your current level of fixed cover by logging into Member SuperSite or call the MTAA Super Customer Service Centre on

New Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) definition From 1 March 2015, there will be a new definition for TPD that is a split definition with two parts; Definition A and Definition B. These are explained on page 5. When does Definition A apply? Definition A applies to a Covered Person 1 who: immediately prior to the Date of Disablement 2 was under age 65; and was Employed at any time within the six months immediately prior to the Date of Disablement. When does Definition B apply? Definition B applies to a Covered Person who either: immediately prior to the Date of Disablement was under age 65 and was not Employed at any time within the six months immediately prior to the Date of Disablement; or immediately prior to the Date of Disablement was age 65 or over and under age 70. Definition B also applies to any TPD claim that relates to a Later Illness 3 or Injury 4 if the Covered Person who: immediately prior to the Date of Disablement was under age 65; and was Employed at any time within the six months immediately prior to the Date of Disablement; and is unable to work (whether or not for reward) due to a particular Illness or Injury (Previous Illness or Injury); and while off work (whether or not for reward), suffers a different Illness or Injury (Later Illness or Injury) which does not have the same cause as the Previous Illness or Injury. How is the claim assessed? Where Definition A applies and has been satisfied, the insured member will be entitled to 80% of their TPD sum insured. The insured member must also satisfy Definition B (at the same time the insured member satisfies Definition A) in order to obtain their remaining 20% TPD sum insured. Where an insured member s claim has been assessed and approved under Definition A only, the claim will not later be re-assessed under Definition B. Where Definition B applies and has been satisfied, the insured member will be entitled to 100% of their TPD sum insured. Further, where an insured member receives any portion of their TPD sum insured, all cover will then cease. For example: If you have cover and you have been approved under Part A of the TPD definition and paid only 80% of your TPD sum insured, the remaining 20% of your TPD sum insured and your Death cover will no longer apply. Transition to the new TPD definition Members will transition to the new TPD sum insured and the new TPD definition if they are At Work on Saturday 28 February Definitions At Work means: a) the insured member is gainfully employed; or has the capacity to attend work and able to perform his/her duties in any capacity. OR b) the insured member is engaged in full time unpaid domestic duties. 1. Covered Person means a person who has been accepted for insurance in accordance with the Group Life Policy. 2. Date of Disablement means the later of the date on which a medical practitioner examines and certifies in writing that the Covered Person is disabled and the date the Covered Person ceases all work (whether or not for reward). 3. Illness shall include sickness, disease or disorder. 4. Injury means bodily injury which is caused solely and directly by external, violent and accidental means and is independent of any other cause. 4

The insured member will meet b) if he/she is able to perform all their domestic duties without restriction due to Injury or Illness. Definitions Domestic duties means duties normally performed by a person who remains at home and is not working in regular employment for income. This would include cleaning the house, washing, shopping for food, cooking meals, and where applicable looking after children. If an insured member does not meet the At Work requirement, the new TPD sum insured and TPD definition will only apply in respect of an injury that first occurred, or an illness that first became apparent, on or after 28 February 2015, until the insured member is next At Work. The current TPD sum insured and TPD definition would apply in respect of any Injury or Illness prior to 28 February 2015 until the insured member is next At Work from which time the new sum insured and TPD definition will apply to all cover. To avoid doubt an insured member who was attending their place of work, but performing reduced duties, or for reduced hours on 28 February 2015 and who ceases all work after 28 February 2015, then their TPD claim will be assessed on the new TPD definition and the new lower sum insured. Their Date of Disablement for the purpose is the date the insured member last physically attended work in any capacity. New TPD definition A new definition of TPD will apply from 1 March 2015 and this is set out below. Total and Permanent Disablement Definition A (Education Training and Experience with Retraining (ETE-R) definition) The Covered Person has, solely due to Illness or Injury, been unable to work (whether or not for reward) for six consecutive months commencing from the Date of Disablement and due to that same Illness or Injury also satisfies the following: a) has continued to remain absent from all work (whether or not for reward) since the Date of Disablement; b) is under Regular and Ongoing Care; and c) we determine that: (i) as at the Date of Disablement; and (ii) for the following six consecutive months; and (iii) continuously since then; the Covered Person is unable to ever engage in or work, whether or not for reward, in any occupation or work for which he or she is or may become reasonably suited by education, training or experience and in making this determination, we will consider any future retraining or rehabilitation that the Covered Person could reasonably undertake or has undertaken. Definition B (Activities of Daily Working (ADW) definition) Total and Permanent Disablement means the Covered Person satisfies all of the following: a) the Covered Person has been unable to perform three of the everyday working activities listed below for six consecutive months solely as a result of Illness or Injury; and b) we determine that the Covered Person has, since the end of the six consecutive months, been and will continue to be permanently and irreversibly unable to perform those everyday working activities solely as a result of Illness or Injury; and c) the Covered Person is under the Regular and Ongoing Care of a medical practitioner who specialises in the Illness or Injury; and d) we determine that, as a result of the same Injury or Illness, the Covered Person is unable to ever engage or work in, whether or not for reward, any occupation or work for which he or she is or may become reasonably suited by education, training or experience and in making this determination, we will consider any future retraining or rehabilitation that the Covered Person could reasonably undertake or has undertaken. The Covered Person will only be considered unable to perform an everyday working activity if they are unable to perform the task: a) on their own even with the use of special equipment available; and b) without the assistance of another person Disabilities for which the relevant specialists cannot give a clear prognosis are not covered. 5

Everyday working activities means: Definitions 1. Walking and Bending: The ability to walk more than 200m on a level surface without stopping due to breathlessness, angina or severe pain elsewhere in the body; and The ability to bend, kneel or squat to pick something up from the floor and straighten up again; and the ability to get into and out of a standard sedan car. 2. Vision (reading): The ability to read, with visual aids, to the extent that an ophthalmologist can certify that: (a) visual acuity is equal to, or better than, 6/48 in both eyes; or (b) constriction is within or greater than 20 degrees of fixation in the eye with the better vision. 3. Lifting: The ability to pick up an object weighing 2kg at table height and hold for 60 seconds before replacing the object on the table. 4. Manual dexterity: The ability, with reasonable precision and success, to: (a) use at least one hand, its thumb and fingers, to manipulate small objects; or (b) use a keyboard if the person was required to use a keyboard in his/her previous job. 5. Communication: They cannot: (a) clearly hear (with a hearing aid or other aid if normally used) conversational speech in a quiet room in their first language, or (b) speak with sufficient clarity to be clearly understood in their first language Regular and Ongoing Care means the person: a) is under the regular and ongoing care of a medical practitioner who has given a clear prognosis that the Injury or Illness will continue throughout the life of the Covered Person (including after the expiry of cover and the commencement of retirement) without any prospect of an improvement which would lead to a return to work (whether or not for reward) in any capacity; and b) is complying with reasonable medical advice and treatment; and c) has, in our opinion reached the maximum level of medical improvement possible for that Covered Person based on their Illness or Injury. Exclusions The following exclusion has been added to the policies: No Benefit for Death, TPD and Income Protection will be payable where the payment of such a benefit would expose MTAA Super, the insurer or member to any sanction, prohibition or restriction under the United Nations resolutions or the trade or economic sanctions, laws or regulations of the European Union, Australia or United States of America. Additional Insurance Cover The automatic acceptance level of additional insurance cover available within 6 months of joining MTAA Super (as an employer supported member) has been reduced. Further details will be available in the 1 March 2015 MTAA Super Insurance Guide. Income Protection Automatic acceptance will no longer be available for income protection cover. 6 This document is issued by Motor Trades Association of Australia Superannuation Fund Pty Limited (ABN , AFSL ) of Level 3, 39 Brisbane Avenue Barton ACT 2600, Trustee of the MTAA Superannuation Fund (ABN ).
