2 In 1890, in Albiez-le-Vieux, a small village in the Maurienne area in the heart of the French Alps in father's workshop, Savoie Joseph Opinel knife which is now named after him., while working in his invents the pocket His knives soon become very successful. In 1901, Joseph sets up his first business next to the family workshop. In 1915, the company is moved to Chambéry (Cognin). It is still based in Chambéry and employs over a hundred people. This environmentally friendly company is committed to a production which is mindful of natural resources.

4 Glossary Carbon steel Our carbon steel is extremely hard, thereby guaranteeing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy regrinding. Carbon can corrode easily. We advise you to avoid damp locations and to wipe and grease the blade after use. Stainless steel We use Swedish 12C27 modified stainless steel (Sandvik). It is extremely anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% gives excellent cutting edge. Convex profile Opinel blades are ground to an exclusive convex profile. The blade maintains its robustness and can be ground efficiently. Virobloc Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the No. 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport). Wood To avoid harming the environment (pollution due to transport, deforestation, etc.), 95% of wooden handles come from French logging.
