1 Page 1 of 5 Tracking ID # (AA Use Only) A degree program is an organized curriculum leading to a college degree in an area of study recognized as an academic discipline by the higher education community, as demonstrated by the assignment of a Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code by the National Center for Educational Statistics, or as demonstrated by the existence of similar programs at other colleges or universities. Each degree program must be assigned a CIP code and included in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Program Inventory. Degree Programs are further subdivided into baccalaureate degree, master s degree and specialist degree programs. Requirements: A baccalaureate degree program consists of 120 semester credit hours. Exceptions to the 120 hours must be approved by THECB. A master s degree program consists of at least 30 semester credit hours. A specialist degree consists of at least 60 hours beyond a bachelor s degree.
