9 1 IT organizations will dedicate at least 25% of their software budget to mobile application development, deployment, and management by Impact Guidance Rapid and widespread adoption of mobility in the enterprise will need to be managed, secured, and supported. Business units will rely on IT services more as they determine and execute on mobile strategies. Institutions will leverage IT services more in 2015 and beyond as they set and act on strategies. LOB may have budget for domain-specific applications. IT spending should be focused on organization-wide initiatives that span business units (like the aforementioned LoB apps) Other initiatives funded by IT should include those that require additional scrutiny for reasons such as security or data integration. 8

11 2 The Number of Enterprise Applications Optimized for Mobility Will Quadruple by 2016 IT Impact Guidance The mobile "appification" of the enterprise will begin in earnest in Mobile application decisions and investments will directly affect the organization's competitiveness and effectiveness. Security concerns remain a clear primary barriers to broader appification. Benchmark your mobile maturity on criteria such as # of apps 4 mobilized, to which functions, time/cost, security, distribution and management. Prioritize investment in mobile app development, sourcing, and deployment based on a business value assessment. Establish formal but regularly reviewed data first processes and policies around access and management of mobile data. 10

12 3 Over 50% of Large Organizations Will Invest in Enhanced Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) Capabilities to Secure Apps and Data in 2015 IT Impact Guidance EMM decisions will define the next generation of enterprise security and management. MDM solutions in place will require enhancement or replacement to accommodate security, policy management, and app provisioning. EMM will logically apply to the Internet of Things (IoT). EMM should serve central policy hub function. Look for solutions that can unify broader fixed, mobile, and where applicable IoT management. Advanced identity/access management, contextual capabilities, and granular data security should be prioritized where requirements are more complex. 11

13 4 By 2017, 100% of the applications used by LoB in customer-facing roles and 75% of apps used by LoB in internally-facing roles will be built for mobile-first IT Impact Guidance An increase in the number of applications that the IT department will need to support in order to mobilize a single LOB function. Cloud-orientation of these apps will result in an increase in the number of applications sourced directly by LOB. LOB will require integration with data stores, but will underestimate difficulty. Native, mobile-first postures should be required for new enterprise applications. Require LOB to share mobile application requirements months out. Look for comprehensive and simplified management /security solutions architected in expectation of this heterogeneity. 12

14 5 IT Departments Will Require Major Reorganizations by 2016 to Assume Broker-Integrate-Manage as Well as Service Orchestration functions. IT Impact Guidance Traditional, centralized IT is insufficient ahead of 3 rd platform transformation. IT s core charter of secure, effective, and compliant control of corporate data is still valid, but must now extend. Decentralized mobilization of business processes enabled by IT should not necessarily compromise corporate data or governance. Evaluate restructuring that supports mobility but more inclusively, accurately, and importantly 3 rd platform computing and enablement. Moving from waterfall to agile development processes is key. Advocate for a closer alignment b/t IT and strategy to improve mutual support. 13

15 6 Competitive Necessity Will Supersede Productivity and Efficiency for 50% of Mobile Enterprise App Development in IT Impact Guidance Productivity benefits of mobile apps are generally clear, and expanding. App initiatives will increasingly be driven by quest for competitive advantage. The presence or absence of high quality mobile apps for a given use case can have a directly deterministic effect on organizational competitiveness. Inventory existing/planned apps and rank which are primarily oriented to ward competitive advantage. Quantify the benefit of offensive v. defensive apps. Acquire capability to develop and deploy high quality apps to all enterprise constituencies in a secure and lifecyclemanageable way. 14

16 7 By the End of 2015, Only 15% of Large Organizations Will Have Adequate Mobile Security Governance for Process and Policy. IT Impact Guidance Hackers and criminals will increasingly target corporations and mobile devices Mobility will generally mean that corporate data will be at rest and in motion across an expansive set of different endpoints. Majority of spending on mobile security shifts from ID/access control to securing apps and data. Address app and data level security, cut across enterprise infra and/or are compatible with other components of security infrastructure. Dimension for an exhaustive range of mobile app and data scenarios. Single, integrated platforms are generally preferable. 15
