3 About Equinox Academy Equinox Academy is the training and education arm of Equinox Advisory Ltd. It specialises in the delivery of high-quality training programmes designed to improve on-the-job performance, and is backed up by the Corporate services arm of Equinox Advisory Ltd. which conducts, among other things, industry surveys in relation to skills gaps, training needs analyses and HR Audits. In 2013, Equinox Advisory Ltd. conducted a market research exercise in relation to the different training needs of professionals in the ambit of Microsoft Excel. On the basis of this study, Equinox Academy designed a MS Excel training programme for professionals in various sectors divided into 3 separate modules intended to take the users to an advanced stage of proficiency and allowing them to subsequently pursue those modules that are specifically designed for their industry (pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, retail, gaming, telecoms, energy, transport, finance, HR, semantics, risk analytics, simulations, etc.). We believe that this process for developing training tailored to industry requirements, which links the needs of industry groupings to the training that we design and eventually deliver offers our clients the possibility to get access to the specific set of skills that is being demanded by his/her industry, and the ability, after undergoing basic to advanced training, to choose the specific module(s) that appeal(s) best to the needs of the individuals in line with the training needs analysis that our clients would have performed in-house or outsourced to us. We do emphasise that in order for our clients to maximise the return on investment on training that they engage us to deliver, the training needs to be planned with a degree of precision in relation to a desired performance improvement. 2 P a g e

4 Programme Summary The MS Excel for Data Analysis & Statistics (MQF Level 5) is an accreditation that shows that the user is proficient in using the different features of MS Excel as required by industry. The modules covered in this training path are: Microsoft Excel for Beginners sets the ground for customising the Excel work environment. Subsequently, the Intermediate Microsoft Excel module covers functionality, add-ins and further customisation, whereas the MS Excel Advanced Techniques then goes into how the functionalities discovered in the Intermediate module can be leveraged to provide solutions to complex problems, especially in relation to automation and object linking and embedding. The MS Excel for Data Analysis & Statistics (MQF Level 5) course has been designed on the basis of surveys undertaken throughout Maltese industry by Equinox Advisory Ltd, and the course effectively prepares the user to be able to take on tasks that require specialised knowledge of MS Excel s functionality. The course is composed of the following modules. 5 Programme Summary The target groups for the MS Excel for Data Analysis & Statistics are people from all walks of life who are interested in and would like to pursue further studies in extending their knowledge of the MS Excel spreadsheet tools generally and in the data mining, data analysis and statistical areas of application. 4 P a g e

6 Course Objectives The high-level objectives of this course include: Familiarisation with the components of a spreadsheet and how to use, manipulate and control the spreadsheet environment: Entering, editing and organising numerical and non-numeric data; Familiarisation with MS Excel standard functionality and programmatic features; Imparting the right skills on the usage of appropriate formulas and tools to display and efficiently summarise spreadsheet information; Making the right decisions about selection and appropriate use of tools and techniques to present and to print spreadsheet information effectively; Familiarising students with Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and MS Excel integration with Databases; Familiarising students with pivot tables and pivot charts, when to use them and how to use them; Learning about the Data Analysis Toolpack, how it can be activated and how it can be used efficiently to solve common workplace problems; Learning about Solver and accompanying skills to solve equations linearly or iteratively through Solver; Acquiring the requisite skills to be able to judge when relative & absolute references should be used in code; Becoming Aware of the possibilities of integrating different types of data and consolidating them into a single spread sheet or multiple, linked spread sheets; Constructing charts from Data and communicating data visually (in-cell or through charts); Managing Workbook protection, versioning control and metadata. 5 P a g e

His vision is to help clients empower themselves and their businesses through the best use of the latest cutting edge I.T. Technologies with special emphasis on Excel and various add-ons. Simon holds a B.Sc in Maths & Computing and am certified as an ECDL expert and a MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) master. He has provided training to various sectors ranging from finance, gaming, manufacturing, educators and general public. His methodology is to use a workshop environment with a hands-on approach and also providing practical guidance on how to apply various excel tools to work related problems.
