2 FOR PRESIDENT: FREIDA SCLAFANI WILLIAMS, RPR, CMRS Lakeland, FL Freida attended the University of South Florida and the Stenograph Institute of Jacksonville. She is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and obtained her CMRS designation in July She is a member of FCRA, NCRA, STAR, and the Central Florida Women Business Owners. She received the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce s Small Business Award in 1999, the FCRA Emily Mann Distinguished Service Award in 2002, and she is an affiliate of the National Network Reporting Company. Freida has served in numerous capacities within the Florida Court Reporters Association, including various seminars presentations, past service as Treasurer, Central Director, Vice President, President- Elect, and President. She also served on the Charter & Bylaws, State Courts, Nominating, Finance & Budget Committee of the FCRA. Her STAR activities include service as Conference Chair for the 2004 STAR Annual Convention and service as a Director on the STAR Board. FOR VICE PRESIDENT: NANCY BISTANY, FCRR, RPR, CSR (IL) Chicago, IL Nancy L. Bistany passed her Illinois CSR in November 1977 and began working as a freelance reporter in December of She attended Arizona State University and then Triton Junior College where she received her Associate s Degree in After 14 years of working for an agency, Nancy was urged by her family and friends, not to mention many attorneys, to open her own shop. And, in 1991, Bistany Reporting Service was formed. She interfaces daily with the freelance reporter world, helping her friends and colleagues on CaseCATalyst work their way through their transcripts and can always be reached at NANCY for such help. Nancy s need to always learn something new and different led her to the technology side of court reporting. In late 1983, after several years of dictating her notes, she was the sixth person in the Chicago area to jump into computer-aided technology with Xscribe s XEC CP/ M-based system. She spent many hours beta testing subsequent versions which ultimately became the DOS XEC-2001 software and was even fortunate enough to be asked to alpha test the software at Xscribe s San Diego headquarters. Her first foray into the user group environment was in 1985 at an Xscribe Users Association seminar. Since that time, Nancy has been active in the subsequent users groups XUA and TAACT where she served as Board Secretary of both organizations as well as Editor of the association s newsletter from 1997 until Also, from 1990 until 1996 she participated on the Xscribe Liaison Committee for Technology. As an avid user of the Xscribe software, Nancy taught many hands-on and tricks-of-thetrade seminars at XUA and TAACT conventions so that reporters would understand how the software really worked! In the past, she also taught Xscribe seminars at the Illinois Shorthand Reporters Association conventions. When Stenograph purchased Xscribe, Nancy s commitment to the user group format made it an easy decision to remain involved and has done so ever since the merger of TAACT and STAR in approximately She attended her first STAR convention in Vancouver in May of 2000 and was asked to continue on the Liaison Committee subsequent to the merger. Like many of her fellow committee members, Nancy brings that reporter touch to the Liaison Committee discussion. In 2001, Sharon Smith graciously turned over the reigns of Editor of STAR-dot-STAR, and Nancy has continued in that role since that time. Nancy s love for travel has taken her to many exciting places, including her first real-time deposition in 1996 in Budapest, Hungary. She enjoys the challenge of technical litigation and specializes in patent, trademark, and copyright work. In her career, she has traveled to Hong Kong, Japan, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany to report
3 real-time patent depositions. In her spare time, besides traveling and spending time with her family, Nancy served on her 420-unit condominium association Board of Managers for six years and was elected by the board to be the president for five consecutive years. After moving August 2005, she has also been elected president of her new condo association. Nancy s motto: When you want something done, give it to a busy person. FOR SECRETARY: NICHOLAS G. RENNILLO, CLVS Akron, OH Nicholas G. Rennillo holds a BA in political science from Muskingum University and a JD from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. Upon completion of his education, he joined Rennillo Reporting Services, first in its support staff and more recently in the management of the firm. Nick has undertaken the management of the firm s videography department, videoconferencing and internal technology. In 2003, Nicholas became a partner with the firm. Nicholas has been a member of STAR since 1999 and chaired the Committee to Explore Voice Recognition. FOR TREASURER: TODD A. MOBLEY Dayton, OH Todd Mobley joined the firm of Mike Mobley Reporting in Todd graduated from the University of Dayton in 1993 with a degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, he went to work for The Analytical Sciences Corporation (TASC) where he served as a consultant to the Department of Defense and Department of Energy regarding the estimation of costs for environmental cleanup efforts. He also worked on a document management project for the Air Force in the C-17 litigation that electronically saved millions of exhibits. In 1995, he joined his parents firm, Mike Mobley Reporting, full time, after many years of helping out on a part-time basis. He currently is the Secretary/Treasurer, accountant, and videographer for the firm. He received his Master s of Business Administration from the University of Dayton in Todd is also active in the Ohio Court Reporters Association, where he serves on the Legislative Committee and is on the Liaison Committee with the attorneys who represent the Ohio Court Reporters in legislative matters. He has been involved with these matters since Todd served as STAR Treasurer from ; ; and LISA DIMONTE, RMR, CMRS Washington, DC Lisa DiMonte began her court reporting career in 1977, when the idea of computer-compatible theory was just being introduced. From the start of her court reporting training, Lisa got hooked on technology and immediately jumped outside the box by researching the different computer-compatible theories available and extracting the writing styles that were most natural for her. You could say Lisa was born to be a court reporter, as she passed her last 225 test within nine months of starting the reporting program. Shortly after graduation from court reporting school, Lisa obtained her RPR and then her RMR while she gained experience as a practicing deposition reporter. In 1990, after encouragement from her family and many of the attorneys for whom she worked over the preceding 13 years of her professional career, Lisa established L.A.D. Reporting. Her business began much like anyone else s: Juggling reporting with transcription, production, billing and marketing her firm and its services. With a lot of hard work, long hours, and the support and assistance of her dedicated family and loyal staff, reporters and clients, L.A.D. Reporting grew to be the largest and most respected court reporting firm in the Mid-Atlantic region, with seven offices throughout
4 the Baltimore, Washington, and Northern Virginia areas. During this time of growth and expansion, Lisa focused much of her efforts on technology, never afraid to be the first to test and use new technology or software. Rather than waiting for clients or reporters to inquire about the latest litigation and reporting technologies, Lisa would be the first to introduce them to the technology, teach them how it could benefit them and then provide the tools and expertise to make it happen. It has been said that Lisa is a master marketer, taking her knowledge and expertise to gain market share and national recognition and respect in the court reporting and legal community. In August of last year, Lisa decided to take her career to the next level when her business, L.A.D. Reporting & Digital Videography, was acquired by LegaLink. Lisa s new position is President of the Mid-Atlantic Division of LegaLink. Lisa s passion is still technology and her top priority right now is to continue to delivery state-of-theart technology to attorneys on a global basis with an emphasis on local attention to detail, customer service and accountability.
