It is anticipated claim processing will be slow while insurance companies switch systems. The time has come! In less than one year, the switch to ICD-10 will be made and it is important that your office be prepared to transition. Now is the time to gain a more in depth understanding of what ICD-10 means to your practice. Early preparation and understanding of the new codes, coding procedures and ICD-10 specific terminology will help ensure that your practice has a smooth transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. The financial and economic impact on private practice will be significant. All insurance carriers will need to update software and get a new system in place. It is recommended that a practice reserve six months overhead because payment from carriers is likely to be slow during the transition. This is a tremendous financial impact for any dental office that consistently bills medical carriers.
