2 Deploy at the File Level By managing client software and other deployments at the file level, FileWave allows you to make changes to any file post-deployment, resume interrupted deployments and revert back to a previous version of software should the need arise. Changes to deployments can be made quickly and easily. With FileWave, you can simply edit, add or remove any file that you need to, at any time. Imagine how powerful this capability is. When you have modified the necessary file(s) to resolve a deployment, only the files you changed will be pulled down by your client systems, minutes after you have made the changes available to them. Mac and Windows FileWave allows administrators to deploy and manage: Individual files such as PDF, Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents, and any other files you would like to deploy. Only the files that you have modified will be seen and pulled down by your clients. Administrators may distribute and manage profiles, create inventory queries of ios devices and prompt users to install applications or make them available via the ios App Portal. 3

4 File Level Deployment and Management By managing deployments at the file level, FileWave allows an administrator to easily and quickly manage, modify or delete any file within a deployment, at any time, even post-deployment. Making certain that your end-users have access to the resources they need is a challenge IT administrators strive to meet each day. Ensuring that end-users are not interrupted during these deployments may seem impossible, not with FileWave. For the past 20 years we have helped IT administrators deploy at the file level, allowing them to easily modify individual files on client systems at any time, resume interrupted deployments where they left off and even distribute content, such as documents, presentations and other materials to users. Whether you are managing fifty systems or fifty thousand, FileWave makes deployment of applications, documents and any other files you would like your end-users to have, simple. FileWave not only can deploy PKGs and MSIs, but also has the unique ability of deploying the files that make up any application or other content. Occasionally, deployments do not go as expected. Images that you thought were ready to deploy have last minute additions or contain items that you would like to modify. FileWave makes these challenges easy to resolve by allowing you to change any of the files within a deployment, such as an application. You are able to resolve issues much more quickly for your end-users because only the files you modify will be seen and pulled down by client systems. 4 The FileWave Advantage How does FileWave work? FileWave manages deployments at the file level by using Filesets. A Fileset consists of all the files that comprise an application or other deployment. By managing deployments at the file level, Filesets allow an administrator to easily and quickly manage, modify or delete any file, at any time. If software has been deployed and a problem is found, an administrator can simply modify the files necessary to fix the problem. The client system will only pull down the changed files, reducing network traffic and allowing you to resolve issues within minutes. Self-healing - FileWave has the capability to self-heal or automatically repair files throughout your enterprise that have been modified, corrupted or deleted by a user, system or virus without any interruption to the end user or your IT team. Every 24 hours or upon reboot, the FileWave client performs a verification. This ensures that files remain unchanged unless you, the administrator, allow users to modify specific files. Resuming interrupted deployments - In today s mobile society, it is not uncommon for deployments to be interrupted through loss of power, network disruptions or laptop lids being closed. When you deploy at the file level, the FileWave client will simply resume interrupted deployments where they left off when the system becomes available again. Rollback - When updates or new versions of software cause unforeseen problems, the FileWave rollback feature allows an administrator to revert the software on any or all systems to the previous version in just a few minutes.

FileWave has been developed as a platform agnostic management tool to support your existing environment. The FileWave server may be installed on your choice of operating system, Mac, Windows or Linux, and the admin application can be run on either a Mac or Windows client OS. FileWave boosters serve as local repositories that allow you to significantly reduce the wide area network traffic involved with deployments. Imagine managing all of your Mac, Windows and ios devices in a single, native admin application. With FileWave, you can do it within a single window. Software Update FileWave allows you to have the ability to automatically find and deploy system updates for both Mac and Windows clients. The clients will automatically report to the server which updates they need. An administrator may then create Filesets from the updates and deploy them to clients who are requesting the update. An administrator may manually associate updates as needed or automate the process. If you need to deploy an update quickly, you can instruct FileWave to automatically deploy the update to all requesting clients. When clients that need the update check in with the FileWave Server, the update will begin to download immediately. 5

6 FileWave Kiosk FileWave Kiosk gives administrators a method to provide users easy access to optional deployments (applications, documents and other resources) at the moment they need them. In most organizations, there are a number of applications and resources that are required for all users. Other content is available via optional downloads. This optional material is accessed by the user in a number of different ways. Applications, software patches and other IT related items are usually found in one location, job specific content is distributed across many websites/servers, HR materials are found in other locations, and the list continues for all other resources you provide. Having the relevant material available for your users to quickly and easily access is challenging in any organization. FileWave Kiosk allows you to provide a self-service portal for your end-users. The Kiosk is system specific, so individuals only see the applications, documents and other content that you have made available to their system as an optional download. FileWave Kiosk is completely brandable! By inserting your company s logo and text, users experience your organization s own unique, customized Kiosk. Giving users access to relevant files is easy with FileWave Kiosk. You can quickly drag and drop a document, application, spreadsheet, presentation or other material to clients, select the Kiosk flag and it will be made available to the selected users. The Kiosk will be updated anytime you associate new Kiosk material or applications to that system. While other self-service solutions rely on installers, which need to restart if a disruption occurs, FileWave s unique file level deployment and management is resilient to both network connectivity and power disruptions. If the deployment of an application or any other content is interrupted, FileWave will simply resume where it left off when the client becomes available again. 6

7 Inventory/ Reporting FileWave Inventory draws infomation from your client systems allowing you to create clear, concise reports for audits, justifying departmental increases and helping you to repurpose hardware and software. FileWave s Inventory software provides your administrators with an easy way to keep track of installed hardware and software. It provides details about the operating system, software versions, security packages, hardware components, and network settings on each client (Apple/Windows/iOS). Inventory can create reports detailing application usage on client systems, both the number of times an application is opened and the total time that it is used. Whether you are preparing for an audit, repurposing hardware and software that is not being fully utilized, planning a system replacement schedule or ensuring that software is licensed properly, FileWave Inventory ensures that you can quickly access the information you need. Reports of your Inventory queries can be scheduled and the results may be ed out in either.xls or.csv formats. FileWave Inventory also allows you to schedule scans of your network to discover devices that do not currently have the Inventory client installed. Even though you do not have the client on these systems, you are still able to get essential information about the system. Other uses of FileWave Inventory include software usage, license and lifecycle management. TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) SAVES END-USERS TIME SAVES $$$ Organizations that use FileWave over traditional methods of deployment can save significant costs in terms of both administrator s and end-user s time and productivity. Organizations spend a great deal of time deploying applications and other materials to end-users. The time that these deployments take is not often accounted for as an expenditure, even though employees salaries are usually the largest expense to any organization. As IT departments face managing a growing number of IT assets with the same or fewer employees, it is challenging to ensure that the end-users and IT assets remain productive. TCO Example for Adobe Creative Suite Deployment A company deploys Adobe Creative Suite to 500 Systems Deployment and installation blocks or significantly slows down end-user for 15 minutes End-user s billable time is $60 per hour, so the deployment costs the company $15 In a traditional deployment, this process would cost an organization $7500 (500 systems x $15). If this organization had only one major upgrade/update of a large application per month, deployment would cost the company at least $90,000 per year ($7500 x 12 months) With a FileWave deployment, the end user is able to stay productive because FileWave silently makes the application or other material available to end-users. The administrator can throttle back the per client connection because our file level management allows deployments to resume where they left off. 7

8 Managing your ios Devices with FileWave The essence of any great deployment solution is that the end-users within the organization don t even know that it exists. Nurdan Eris Founder of FileWave You can use FileWave to manage ios devices within the same interface you use to manage your Mac and Windows clients. Using FileWave s native admin app, drag and drop applications and profiles to ios devices or ios device groups to make an association. FileWave supports Apple s MDM (Mobile Device Management), providing seamless integration for app and profile deployment, resetting passwords, data protection, remote wipe and full inventory reporting. Deploying profiles with FileWave is easy. Simply create profiles using the latest version of Apple s Configurator or IPCU, drag them into FileWave and make associations to ios devices. Should an end-user delete a policy profile, the profile will be self-healed and placed back on the device, every 24 hours (by default). In FileWave, you can search the App Store and associate specific software to ios devices. There are two ways to make apps available to end-users. The first is Managed, which prompts the user to accept the application. The second is through the FileWave App Kiosk, which allows you to make App Store applications available as optional downloads for users. Both are device specific, displaying only the apps you have associated to each ios device or groups that the ios device is a member of. If you have access to Apple s Volume Purchasing Program (VPP), you can import VPP spreadsheets directly into FileWave and associate codes to an app. This eliminates the need to manually distribute VPP codes to users. With VPP integration, when the user accepts a purchased app, FileWave inserts the code without end-user involvement and the application begins downloading. FileWave allows you to simplify procurement of VPP Codes with Apple, by allowing administrators to purchase a single spreadsheet of VPP codes and distribute those codes to multiple departments within your organization. This is accomplished by creating multiple versions of an app in FileWave, representing each department you wish to have access to the app, and allowing you to associate varying quantities of codes within the spreadsheet to each department. Accessing inventory details of your ios devices is easy with FileWave. Administrators can view detailed information, such as command history, installed apps, Managed application deployment status, MDM enrollment information, ios version, and hardware details. FileWave allows administrators to customize the inventory tab to only see inventory details that are relevant to your organization. Additionally, since FileWave manages your Macs and PCs at the file level, we include a feature to search an itunes library and easily distribute non-drm content (podcasts, videos, and audio) to remote Mac and Windows sync stations. When ios devices are sync d to those client systems, the itunes content you deployed will be available on the ios devices.
