If you have any questions or issues while you are a student employee, you can contact me by phone (580) , at [email protected], or come by my office at any time. I am located in the Administration Bldg., Room 121. My desire is to help make your student employment a positive experience. 0 Student Employee Orientation reviews your rights, responsibilities and expectations as an employee of Cameron University and the State of Oklahoma. We also offer some helpful suggestions on Workplace Professionalism, Work Ethics, and general ideas to make your student employment a successful and rewarding experience. 0 I ask that you carefully review each page presented and then complete an information sheet at the end to record your successful completion of the orientation. 5 Sexual Harassment is Prohibited 0 Cameron University is committed to providing an environment of study and work free from sexual harassment and insuring the accessibility of appropriate grievance procedures for addressing all complaints regarding sexual harassment. Samples of conduct prohibited by this policy may include, but is not limited to: 1. Unwelcome sexual flirtation and/or advances or propositions for sexual activity 2. Verbal abuse of a sexual nature, suggestive comments and/or sexually explicit jokes 3. Remarks of a sexual nature to describe a person(s) body or clothing 4. Offensive physical contact, such as unwelcome touching, pinching, brushing the body 5. Coerced Sexual intercourse or sexual assault 6. Rape/date or acquaintance rape Cameron University encourages victims to call Campus Security at x2911 as soon as possible if an offense occurs.
6 Health and Safety Cameron University is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for the entire University. In the event of an employee injury, employees should follow the proper procedures for reporting an on the job injury. Please take a moment to review your obligations as an employee if an on the job injury were to occur 1. Notify your supervisor, regardless of how minor the injury or illness may appear. In some emergency situations, it may be necessary to report the injury or illness to your supervisor after treatment. 2. If the injury or illness requires non emergency care, be sure to take the Medical Authorization Form. 3. For emergency or life threatening illnesses or injuries seek immediate care without a Medical Authorization Form. 4. Only receive initial treatment from one of the university s designated first responders. 5. Complete required Worker s Compensation forms located under the Governance tab in AGGIE ACCESS (form #W2) or This will insure prompt payment of medical bills and continued treatment. 6. When an employee returns to work, the bottom section of the Medical Authorization Form should be completed by the physician and provided to the supervisor. 7 Characteristics of Good Work Ethic People who possess a strong work either embody certain principles that guide their work behavior, leading them to produce high quality work consistently. 1. Dependability, Punctuality, and Reliability A reliable employee is punctual, follows through on his/her tasks and shows up ready to work. Employees with a good work ethic put effort into proving that they can be trusted to show up as scheduled and on time. 2. Respectfulness Employees should have a respectful attitude when interacting with the public as well as co-workers. Employees should treat everyone politely and professionally, even if they disagree with their point of view. 3. Dedication Dedication to doing your job as well as you can often leads to changing jobs less frequently. Going above and beyond what is expected shows employers that the employee is above the rest of the workforce and truly dedicated themselves to their position. 4. Well Organized Well organized employees plan their day in advance and allocate time accordingly. They prioritize and manage time effectively. They demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes. They use planning tools like calendars, planners and lists to keep track of their work. 5. Communication Skills Communication skills include learning how to listen, write and speak well. Employees must listen to fully understand assignments and ask appropriate questions related to assignments. Speak up and interact with your supervisor and other co workers.
8 General Tips to Remember in the Workplace 1. Always call your Supervisor if you are going to be late or miss form for any reason. 2. Be punctual. 3. Dress neatly and wear appropriate attire. Always practice good grooming and personal hygiene. 4. Keep inappropriate language out of the workplace. 5. Turn cell phones off or on silent upon arriving at your place of work. Discuss the cell phone policy with your Supervisor. 6. The University computer is for work, not posting status updates or surfing the web. 7. Keep accurate records of your work hours on a daily basis. 8. Treat instructions, staff and fellow students with respect, courtesy and tact. 9. Be very courteous in your tone of voice and manner when handling phone calls if this is your area of responsibility. 10. Ask questions if you do not understand something. 11. Your actions are a reflection of yourself, the office in which you work, and on Cameron University. 12. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
9 Timesheets 0 All employed student workers will be required to enter hours worked in an online system. It is the responsibility of the employee to keep track and enter his/her hours in order to receive a paycheck for the hours worked. 0 All timesheets are submitted to an immediate supervisor for approval before they are processed by payroll and transmitted to the state. 0 Please be sure to follow the instructions provided to you in the timesheet handouts to find your deadline and pay dates.
