2 Page Conference Vendor Displays Conference Schedule Friday, November 9, :00 am 9:00 am Conference Registration and Vendor Displays 9:00 am 10:00 am Keynote Speaker: Al Berman, DRI International Effective Risk Management and Management 10:15 am 11:45 am Selling Continuity to Management Plan Testing Using a Disaster Simulator To Enhance BC Plan Testing 11:45 am 1:00 pm Lunch (provided at no cost to attendees) and Vendor Displays 1:00 pm 2:30 pm The Basics of a Business Impact Analysis 2:45 pm 4:15 pm Plan Development Testing your BC Plan Utilizing a Tabletop Exercise Software Best Practices Conference Keynote Effective Risk Management and Business Continuity Management Alan Berman, President, DRI International In a world where the need for integration of disciplines is becoming more and more important, there are two distinct, but inter-related models that are moving to the forefront of planning for and responding to disruptive incidents. The first is ensuring that Risk Management and Management are working together. The other is the convergence of private and public sector cooperation. A holistic risk and effect based model serves a dual purpose of reducing the likelihood and severity of an incident occurring and minimizing the impact of the event. With the multitude of standards, regulations and laws governing each facet of our preparedness and responsiveness, finding a holistic approach that will prove to be most effective in addressing; preparation, testing and execution of plans to minimize the effects of disruptive incidents is our greatest challenge. Selling Continuity to Management Edward Ted Brown, President and CEO Ketch Consulting Gaining management buy-in can be a challenge for the planning professional, and the problem most often is in the presentation: planners don t sell the concept of BCP in a way to which executives can relate. In this session, learn how to handle objections, reference sell, understand the implications of Sarbanes-Oxley, tout BCP as another form of insurance, and gather allies within your corporation, develop a BCP ROI with actual numbers, and use the Internet to increase BCP awareness in order to obtain executive support for your corporate BCP efforts. Plan Testing Mid-Penn Chapter of the Association of Contingency Planners Your plan testing is critical if your company is to survive an interruption or disaster. Good companies have tested plans, trained personnel, necessary resources, and signed contracts and ready at a moment's notice to mitigate any interruption or disaster. These elements keep your company in business without your customer services interrupted. You do not want to be a casualty of any incident, large or small!
3 Page Conference Vendor Displays Using a Disaster Simulator to Enhance Plan Testing Bobby Cook, CHS, Fire Commissioner (Ret.), Business Development Manager ETC Simulation A business continuity plan that has never been tested can be worse than no plan at all. Functional tests are often more thorough than tabletop exercises, but the costs to do live functional testing (in terms of personnel and lost productivity) can be prohibitive. The Advanced Disaster Management Simulator (ADMS) is a portable, state-of-the-art, 3-D virtual reality system that provides an effective mechanism to test command, control, coordination and communication components in business continuity plans. This session will feature a live demonstration of ADMS, showing how the system can be used to enhance an organization s business continuity plan testing program. The Basics of a Business Impact Analysis David King, President and CEO Horst Insurance Group This session will review the basic elements of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA), how it can help your business evaluate continuity risk, and how it ultimately drives the design of your Plan. Examples of core BIA components will be provided including Mission Critical Functions (MCF), Down-time Evaluation, and Risk & Hazard Identification. The primary objective of this session is to help you better understand the BIA framework and how it can help you develop a better continuity plan. Testing Your Plan Utilizing a Tabletop Exercise Mid-Penn Chapter of the Association of Contingency Planners As with many activities, one of the keys to success is practice. How would you respond to a disruptive event at your business? Studies have shown that the ability of the average person to react and respond is reduced significantly during emergency situations. Practicing a Plan on a regular basis is essential to a successful program. Please join members of the Mid-Penn Chapter of the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP) as they conduct a tabletop exercise that is both fast-paced and thought provoking. Attendees will be divided to form working groups for the exercise. You will be challenged to make quick decisions in an ever changing scenario. ACP members will be available to answer questions and assist you during the event. We hope you ll join us for this exciting and informative session. Plan Development Ginnie Stouffer, MBCP, MBCI Aforethought Consulting, LLC; George Giangi, Chair Business, Industry and Infrastructure Subcommittee, South Central Task Force Standards are measurements! Building a box without determining the measurement of all sides will most likely result in a lopsided box. Building a plan without using a standard as a guide will most likely result in a weak plan. Find out how easy it is to use a standard in the development of a Plan as well as a template for a basic BC Plan and typical business continuity findings and recommendations from past vulnerability assessments. Software Best Practices Aaron Callaway. Managing Director Fairchild Consulting; Don Long, MBCP, CISA, and Disaster Recovery Philadelphia Insurance Companies Automated planning systems have revolutionized how planning is done today. However, during this "BCP revolution" many systems get blamed for ineffective programs and for out of date plans. Business continuity managers must take a hard look at your current Planning, BIA, and Business Continuity Management processes. A properly implemented System may actually be a pivotal lever to driving commitment and innovation to your program. This session will outline the key steps to implementing a BC software system and how to keep the system working for you and not you working for the system, as well as a review of the use of mass notification systems in BC planning.
