Pre-Call for EIT Health Accelerator Projects This Pre-Call is intended to give an overview on composition and accessibility of the EIT Health accelerator activities: 1. For 2016, this pre-call shows how start-ups and entrepreneurs can apply for participation or funding. Selection processes and deadlines are set individually for each project. 2. For 2017, this pre-call shows how EIT Health partner institutions can apply to be involved in the 2017 activities and projects. Hosting institutions for Accelerator 2017 will be chosen in August The call for projects 2017 will refer to our online platform EIT Health Plaza starting on April 1 st, deadline will be May 16 th Information on activity design provided by this pre-call might still be slightly adapted until April 1 st. The call on April 1 st will be based on the final EIT Health Plaza design. 1. Accelerator Core Activities 1.1 PoC/HS Projects A combined fund of 2,5 M will be distributed evenly between 6 CLCs and the Innostars, while the CLCs will have significant freedom for evaluation and selection processes. The grant supports the applicant in realizing a breakthrough step towards the market. Moreover, the requirement towards the applicants is to describe what the next steps after the grant will be, underpinning why the grant is so important. (Coordinated by Paddie Murphy, Birmingham, UK, [email protected]) Ø Deadlines and selection criteria are set by CLCs, local calls will follow. Ø Application process should be supported via EIT Health Plaza. 1
1.2 Investors Network (EIT Health Private Equity Community) The aim is to increase the investment of private capital in investment-ready projects, start-ups and SMEs within EIT Health s scope to spin out 70 new companies and business ideas per annum. Build-up, coordination and expansion of business angel and corporate financing networks will be realized by the identification and signature of agreements with relevant business angel networks. (Coordinated by Bernward Garthoff, Düsseldorf, Germany, [email protected], [email protected]) Ø Local events can be integrated as panels of existing investors conferences. Ø European investors conference will be part of EIT Health summit. Ø Investor Network partner agreements should be achieved by Q3-Q Business Plan Competition The first EIT Health Business Plan competition will be held in The focus will be on selecting and encouraging participants from other accelerator activities to take part. Also leveraging local competitions to supply entrants to the EIT Health competition will be an important source. In 2016, the thematic areas for the competition will be broad chosen from the challenges outlined in the EIT Health Business Plan. (Coordinated by Jörg Trinkwalter, Erlangen, Germany, [email protected]) Ø Participants will be selected and invited by CLCs from national competitions and other EIT Health projects within Q1-Q2. Ø The BP competition will be composed of several competition rounds. Ø Final BP pitches will be part of EIT Health summit. 1.4 Living Labs & TestBeds The high quality network of Living Labs and Test Beds per CLC will be based on pre-defined selection criteria. The target is an interactive online overview of the selected Living Labs and Test Beds connected to an information database including operating procedures for access to LL and TB facilities and financing of projects. 2
We want to stimulate the execution of first EIT Health LL or TB showcases focusing on the facilities that are already fully operational. (Coordinated by María Teresa Arredondo, Madrid, Spain, Ø Definitions and criteria will be developed by Q1. Ø Relevant Partners can sign a MoU to become an EIT Health LL or TB by Q2. Ø Online interactive overview of LL & TB will be created by Q2. 2. Accelerator Coaching Activities 2.1 Launchlab LaunchLab participants test the commercial feasibility of their idea. The programme provides young innovators with tools and coaching to start a promising company. After 2 months (July & August), a scalable business model can be built around your idea and will be tested in the relevant market with potential launching customers and business partners. All CLC / Innostar centres will be actively engaged in order to ensure that participants from throughout the consortium will take part in this pan-consortium flagship programme. (Coordinated by Roel Kamerling, Delft, Benelux, [email protected]) Ø Participants for Launchlab 2016 will be selected by May Ø Programme period 2016 will be July/August. Ø Hosting institutions for Launchlab 2017 will be chosen by August Call for projects will be April 1 st, deadline will be May 16 th GoGlobal The EIT Health Go Global internationalisation programme will support European start-ups and scale-ups in the domain of MedTech and Digital Health to expand in Europe, the United States and other international markets. There are two separate programmes, one focussing on Medtech and one focussing on Digital Health companies will be selected for each programme and they will get high quality support to develop and execute their internationalisation plans. The programmes will use both existing larger companies including EIT Health partners and experienced coaches/consultants to provide extensive support and expertise based on their own experiences. 3
The aim is to have companies from all CLC/Innostar centres as participants in this pan-consortium flagship programme. Existing larger companies including EIT Health partners - will be used to provide extensive support and expertise based on their own experiences. (Coordinated by Gustav Notander, Stockholm, Skandinavia, [email protected]) Ø GoGlobal Medtech: Call will open February 1 st, deadline will be March 11 th. Programme start is April 27 th. Ø GoGlobal DigiHealth: Call will open April 1 st, deadline will be April 22 nd. Programme start is May 30 th. Ø Hosting institutions for GoGlobal 2017 will be chosen by August Call for new programmes will be on April 1 st, deadline will be May 16 th Market Coach Network A pan-consortium flagship programme to build a network of market experts to support expanding SMEs in understanding local conditions and provide access to potential customers (Coordinated by Richard Bosmans, Paris, France, [email protected]) Ø Access Mechanisms and contacts to key market experts will be developed at all CLCs and Innostars until Q1-Q Local Training For 2016, smaller local training programmes will be organised focused on the individual needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs at the different CLCs / InnoStars. As such these programmes and courses will cover areas not part of Campus programmes and will then be evaluated and developed into pan-consortium programmes (if deemed appropriate) from 2017 onwards. However, where appropriate and possible, CLCs will be encouraged to develop bilateral and multilateral programmes with other CLCs. The training programmes will bring together entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs as well as investors keen to learn of the opportunities in the health 4
living and active ageing fields. Target will be to leverage their technical knowledge in financing, IP, CE, regulatory schemes, GxP etc. (Coordinated by Andrea Bagoly, Budapest, Innostars, Ø Calls for projects will be launched at each CLC (10 k per CLC) by Q1. Ø First projects will be started and financed by Q3-Q4. 3. Accelerator Missing Puzzle Activities 3.1 What else do we need to round up the EIT Health accelerator portfolio?
