1 G R A D U A T E P R O G R A M C U R R I C U L U M HMSL Requirements All graduate students in the School of HMSLS are required to take HMSL ce courses in HMSLS 653, Research Methods and either HMSLS 651, Interpretation of Quantitative Research, HMSLS 654, Interpretation of Qualitative Research. All students are required to complete their studies by taking either HMSLS Directed Research (Plan II) HMSLS Thesis Research (Plan I). Specialization Requirements Developmental Kinesiology (DK) specialization students are required to take HMSL 650 Seminar in Developmental Kinesiology (2 credits) and select from a flexible DK ce depending on one's interests and needs. Additional credits are also selected from a variety of Developmental Kinesiology courses. An emphasis in a particular cognate (e.g.- physical education, exercise science, mot perfmance and spt psychology) is developed with an assigned academic advis. This specialization is planned f two years of study. Leisure and Tourism Studies The Leisure and Tourism Studies specialization has flexible emphases beyond the required L&T ce. Spt Administration specialization plans courses on a two year cycle. Beyond the Spt Administration Ce students select from Financial/Promotional and Behavial Aspects as well as a number of electives. Students are not required to take an internship at the completion of coursewk but it is encouraged. Additional course requirements are that all graduate assistants must enroll in HMSLS 652, Teaching HMSLS at the College Level (Fall Semester). All on-campus graduate assistants and those on external cooperative agreement contracts must enroll in GRS 600, Wkshop in Higher Education, in the Fall and attend the Fall Graduate Student Professional Development Seminars. These two credit hours do not count towards degree completion. F those with limited experience no undergraduate internship, prerequisites f the Leisure and Tourism Studies and the Spt Administration Specialization should be met pri to admission. Entry Prerequisites Students are urged to review specialization checksheets to determine if any deficiencies are present. Students should plan on removing these deficiencies pri to entering the Graduate Program provide documentation of experience via a written narrative. In most cases, students will not be allowed to take an undergraduate course concurrent with the Graduate course f a specific deficiency.
2 Spt Administration students will be expected to have had coursewk/life experience in recreation and leisure pri to enrolling in the spt administration graduate program. Students admitted with deficiencies in any of the academic areas must take coursewk at the undergraduate level pri to graduating. Students admitted without an undergraduate internship are required to complete a one-semester, full-time internship in addition to the academic courses in the curriculum.
