4 OMF Goals Increase music production activity in Ontario and build strong, competitive and sustainable music companies Strengthen and develop the support structures and systems that contribute to economic and cultural growth in Ontario s music industry Increase performance opportunities for new & emerging Canadian artists Create opportunities for emerging artists and small music companies with high potential Support Ontario s musical diversity, particularly with respect to music from culturally diverse, Aboriginal and Franco-Ontarian communities
5 MCD Stream Objectives Develop artist rosters, invest in recording and production, increase sales and build market share Increase investment in, and development of, Canadian artists in Ontario Expand company capacity Create jobs and grow revenues Increase export development Support digital and organizational innovation
6 Program Highlights (MCD) Eligible activity period: July 1, 2015 July 31, 2016 Funding may not exceed 50% of total eligible costs of activities Total funding to a single company may not exceed $1.5 million per year Business activities eligible for support vary depending on applicant category/class New Audit/Cost Report Guidelines provide guidance and rules regarding accounting, reporting, and related party transactions
7 Applicant Eligibility In order to be eligible, applicants must: Be incorporated in Canada and be in operation for at least two years Have a permanent establishment in Ontario which serves as the head office Have minimum annual eligible revenues of $100,000 from core business activities Have key management personnel who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada living in Ontario Be in good standing with OMDC at time of application
8 Applicant Eligibility CATEGORY A: Domestic Music Companies Applicants in this category must be Canadian-controlled Record Labels Music Publishers Music Managers Artist-Entrepreneurs CATEGORY B: Multinational Record Labels
9 Eligible Activities & Costs For CATEGORY A and CATEGORY B applicants: Recording & Production All recording costs must be incurred in Ontario Studio recording costs and supplies Master license fees Art and copy costs, video shoots Canadian technical staff, recording engineers and session musicians Marketing & Promotion Advertising Creation and production of promotional materials Online and mobile marketing Event costs * Category B: Marketing & promotion costs must be paid to an Ontario-based company for Canadian artists.
10 Eligible Activities & Costs For CATEGORY A applicants only: Touring & Showcasing Direct tour costs for an artist signed to the applicant company Business Development Costs paid for goods and services that enhance company capacity Administrative and Overhead Costs Staff salaries, office space and corporate services (capped at 25% of total budget) Equipment & Software Cost of new equipment, materials and software (must be pro-rated or amortized using the formula outlined in the Guidelines)
11 Ineligible Costs Expenses incurred outside of the program funding cycle Recording costs incurred outside Ontario Recoupable expenses Salaries and wages of staff not directly related to the activities Executive salary costs and staff benefit costs Real estate and leasehold improvement costs or capital costs related to permanent structures Cost of commercial General Liability Insurance Fees relating to annual financial statements Recoverable taxes
12 Business Plans A Company Business Plan is required and must contain, at minimum: Applicant profile Overview of business activities An in-depth S.W.O.T. analysis that demonstrates your knowledge of the market conditions in which you are operating Forward-looking information on plans for company growth Budget for the overall business (comparative) Revenue, expense and profit projections for the next months A case for OMF funding
13 Budgets & Financing Applicants are required to submit two distinct sets of financial information: 1. Company Budget Overall company financial plan outlining all corporate revenue and expenditures for a specified fiscal period (comparative) 2. Activities Budget OMDC template that includes cost breakdowns for each eligible activity, along with a summary of sources of financing for those activities. List activities in order of priority, and indicate the OMF $ amount requested for each activity

19 Application Assessment Applications will be assessed on the following: 1. Operational capacity 2. Activities/proposal 3. Organizational impact 4. Economic & cultural impact 5. Sustainability
20 Application Assessment Questions to consider when preparing your application: Does your company have the track record and organizational capacity (financial, human resources) to effectively execute the activities? Are your proposed activities and budgets feasible, appropriate and achievable for your company? Do the activities benefit your business as a whole in positioning it for longterm growth and sustainability? Is the proposal well-written, practical, and thorough? Does your application thoroughly articulate return on investment (ROI) for both your company and Ontario, such as critical success, job creation, and growth in sales, revenues, and audience share?
21 Application Tips Read the guidelines and application requirements thoroughly make sure your company and proposed activities are eligible Be realistic. Do not apply for more funding and/or activities than you have the capacity to execute Sell your unique business case and provide information to indicate how your proposal will be successful Include quantitative metrics and ROI that will result from the proposed activities that directly demonstrate how your company meets various OMF objectives (as outlined in Appendix 1 of the Guidelines) Demonstrate how your proposed activities are new and/or expanded
22 Application Tips Include background research (ie. case studies, market research), that demonstrates that the activity will be successful Demonstrate your knowledge of your competitive positioning Double-check that the figures on your activity budget match the amounts in your financing plan and total budget submitted in the OAP Ensure that you highlight key information; don t bury it Be concise and specific. More does not necessarily mean better
