15 TECH TALK INTEL XEON PROCESSOR E v3 RELATIVE PERFORMANCE The below graph details the relative benchmark performance of the previous flagship top bin Xeon E v2 processor, compared to its replacement model the E v3. The later v3 processor now sports up to 18 cores, 6 more than before, enabling enhanced scale out performance. You will notice however, that the E v3 is running at a much lower frequency than the E v3. It s this balance of increased core count and newer instructions that enables the E v3 to show a performance increase of anything from 20% to as much as 200%. Notably, the Intel Linpack test, which takes advantage of the Haswell New Instructions performs exceptionally well; almost doubling the performance of its rival. The memory bandwidth test Stream, shows a 44% increase in performance too, thanks to the 2133MHz DDR-4 memory controller and its increase in frequency over the v2 range.
