Warm Up Yesterday, my good friend Susan and I had a very interesting conversation about our future careers. We will graduate from high school in a couple of years so we need to start thinking about what we want to do with our lives. Now, I am going to tell my parents my plans. 3 Warm Up Tim: Mom and dad, I wanted to sit with you to talk about my future! Mother: What about your future, son? Tim: I want to study a bachelor s in Bogota. But I still have my doubts. Mother: My dear, there are a lot of things to think about before making that decision. Tim: I know that, mom. It makes me think about what I might be missing out if I stay here. 4 Warm Up Tim: Bogota is big, but it offers lots of academic options! Father: Tim, this is a small city, what if a big city like Bogotá scares you? Tim: I ll be ok. Bogotá is a city with lots of important universities that have a well-earned reputation. Mother: John, I agree with Tim. In this city, he won t be able to project (vrt) all his abilities. Tim: I d call Alicia, my aunt! Isn t she there in Bogota? Father: I see you have your ideas clear. But if you get sick, who would you call? Mother: That s right, Tim. I can make a phone call and ask her to look after you when in need. I am sure she will be glad to help you. 5 Warm Up Tim: You don t need to worry about anything. You two have brought me up the correct way, and I won t disappoint you. Mother: We know that, son. John, if he never leaves home, he won t have the best professional options. Father: : Then, it is decided. You are leaving to Bogota!. Tim: Mom and dad, I won t let you down. Thank you! 6 Let s get inside Susan: So, you are finally leaving to Bogotá to study, aren t you? Tim: Yes, I am! I m very excited about it, but I feel anxious, too. Susan: Why is that? Tim: Well, I was just thinking about what would happen if things didn t turn out as I expect. I mean, I will even live there! Susan: I know how you feel, but if you don t give it a try, you will never know! Tim: You re right. I have to take this risk, and, in the worst case scenario, if I don t pull this off, I ll just come back home. Susan: You are right. I m absolutely sure you will meet with success as soon as you get to Bogotá. Tim: I hope so! And you know, if you don t risk anything, you risk more! Susan: Well said!
