The Committee approved changing the time period from eight to four years (5-0-0), The Committee approved that forgiveness would apply only to previous course work with a grade below C (b-g-o), The Committee voted against requiring the student to complete 15 credit hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA prior to applying for academic forgiveness. The vote was chair-person Hutchinson ruled that the motion failed due to abstentions being counted as negative votes and that otherwise to break the tie he would vote against the motion. This will be presented to the Faculty Senate. Submitted, The meeting adjourned at 4:30 pm. Bruce Hutchinson Chair

2 Reg istration Classification Students are classified as full time if they are registered for 12 credit hours or more, Students registered for 6 to 11 credit hours are classified as half-time students. Students with less than 6 credit hours are considered less than half-time. Sequence Course Registration Students who have successfully completed a higher level sequence course are not required to register for the lower level sequence course, Students, however, will not receive credit for the lower level course on their transcript. Sequence courses are defined as Part I and Part II courses that must be taken consecutively' Knowledge of the second course is reliant on knowledge of the first course (Calculus I and Calculus II). Registration Limits and Excess Hours Students may register for 20 or fewer credit hours each semester without prior approval of the petitions Committee. Exceptions to these restrictions must have advanced approval from the Petitions Commitree, Students requesting approval of the Petitions Committee to register for excess hours for a given semester must submit the petition to the Records Office no later than one week prior to the first day of class for each semester, The petition form can be accessed through the UTC website at www. utc,edu/administration/ Records/forms. Drop/Add Policy Students are responsible for processing their course registrations, additions, and drops. Students who register must pay fees unless they drop the courses before the first day of classes, Failure to attend classes is not evidence of the student's intent to drop classes or withdraw from the University. A student who does not attend classes will remain on the class rosters and will receive grades for these courses. Registration and drop dates for each specific term can be found on the University's online calendar.

3 Simultaneous Second Degree Requirements Students may earn a second bachelor's degree slmultaneously with the first bachelor's degree provided the student meets all graduation, degree, major, and concentratlon requirements prov+ded uneer-tne+erferffinc enditiene, lfor both degrees,

Students may request an exception by submitting a completed petition form to the Undergraduate Petitions Committee. The Undergraduate Student Petition form is located online on the Records Office website.

5 Prior Learning Assessment Credit Limitations on Prior Learning Assessment Students may earn no more than 60 semester hours of prior learning assessment. Student may earn no more than 24 semester hours of prior learning assessment for each of the categories listed below" prior learning assessment credit is not accepted as transfer work Normally, prior learning assessment will not apply toward the last 24 hours of residency. However, students who have completed their previous 24 hours of traditional coursework at UTC and earn practical Training credit or credit for the NCLEX in the Gateway Program in their final semester need not petition for an exception to the final 24 hour residency requirement. Except for credit by special examination, credit earned by these non-traditional means is elective, Exceptions to this principle occur only with the written approval of the respective departments, indicating specifically the amount and type of credit to be applied to a major degree program. An exception to this policy is granted to students transferring to UTC with an Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree from a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) school, These students will receive transfer credit for prior learning assessment awarded as part of their Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree" Advanced Placement Students admitted to the University may obtain advanced placement by any of several examinations. The University pafticipates in the advanced placement program of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). Applicants who have taken the advanced placement examinations may submit the results to the Undergraduate Admission Office for consideration. The University may grant credit and advanced placement in a subject for students whose test scores are three or higher. Some departments require a minimum score of four, Credit earned through advanced placement will be entered on the student's academic record as satisfactory credit but will not be computed in the grade point average. Students may earn no more tharr 24 semester hours of advanced placement credit. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) UTC recognizes and accepts credit derived from several of the subject area examinations of the College Level Examination Program or CLEP, The CLEP subject examinations measure achievement in a number of specific undergraduate courses. The Undergraduate Admission Office must receive the report of test scores directly from CLEP. Individual academic depatments set standards for the acceptance of CLEp credits.

6 Therefore, the required percentile grade for credit at UTC varies. Some departments accept no credit via LLtrT. Students may earn up to 24 elective hours for successfully passing CLEP examinations. Credit earned will be entered on the student's academic record but will not be computed in the grade point average. Correspondence and Extension Credit Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of credit required for an undergraduate degree by correspondence or by a combination of correspondence and extension courses. The same limitations apply to hours in the major. All such courses must meet degree requirements atthe University of Tennessee at Chatta noog a. Students may not use correspondence and/or extension courses within the last24 hours of degree credit work unless the Petitions Committee grants advanced approval or the Depaftment Head of the student,s major depaftment grants prior approval for the student to use one such course to be completed at another University of Tennessee campus. The University of Tennessee correspondence program provides college credit courses that may satisfy degree requirements, students may learn more about these course options at nywhere.ten nessee.ed u " DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Suppott) credit for specific examinations in DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests), Credit awarded is based upon American Council on Education (ACE) minimum recommendations and is entered on the student's academic record as satisfactory credit. Examinations are available in numerous subject areas and are similar to end-of-course exams offered by colleges and universities" Results should be recorded on the appropriate military educational transcript (i.e. SMART, CCAF, AF{TS, Coast Guard Institute), and official transcripts should be submitted to UTC for evaluation" International Baccalaureate Credit Students admitted to the University may obtain International Baccalaureate credit by any of several examinations. The University participates in the International Baccalaureate program of the International Baccalaureate Organization. Applicants who have taken International Baccalaureate examinations may submit official results to the Undergraduate Admission Office for consideration" The University may grant credit or advanced placement in a subject for students whose test scores meet the University's criteria for awarding credit. The required score for credit may vary by department. Some departments may not accept credit via the International Baccalaureate Proqram.

7 Credit earned through International Baccalaureate will be entered on the student's academic record as satisfactory credit but will not be computed in the grade point average. Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of International Baccalaureate credit. Type of credit will be determined by the appropriate academic department. The academic department will determine if International Baccalaureate credit is to count toward degree requirements or as elective credit only. Credit by Special Examination (Undergraduate) Any student admitted to the University is eligible to receive credit by special examination. Students may earn credit by special examination for courses offered in the catalog with the exception of the following: 1, courses described as directed research, tutorial, or directed independent study; 2" any course from which the student has been exempted by placernent examination or which the student has presented for admission purposes; 3. any course in any education teaching block; or 4. courses in which the student received a grade. Students must pay the published fee for each undergraduate semester hour of credit. Students seeking credit by special examination should use forms provided by the Records Office to request approval from the department under which the course is described in the Catalog. The department will grant or deny the request pursuant to the standards stated on the request form; the department shall deny the requesl if it determines that the student would realize substantial benefits from participating in the activities of the course. The depaftmental committee on special examinations in the department in which credit is to be awarded shall grant the request for credit by special examination when it is satisfied that, in addition to meeting the requirements for special examinations stated in the catalog, the student can demonstrate competence gained through study and/or experience primarily independent of University class activities, Thus, the course material must be such that the student has achieved the objectives of the course without class attendance. The academic depadment will determine the method for designing, administerlng, and evaluating the special examination. In all cases, the examination must equal the scope and difficulty of a comprehensive final examination in that course" No student may repeat a special examination in a given course within one year. Students will receive credit, recorded as S (Satisfactory) on the academic record, upon demonstrating the development of the abilities and attitudes of students who have taken the course and upon passing the examination with a minimum equivalent grade of C. Students earning less than a C grade equivalent receive NC (No Credit) on the academic record, Neither S nor NC grades will be used in computing the grade point average. Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of Credit by Special Exam. Military Service Credit

8 The University may grant credit for military science to students with six or more months of honorable active service in the armed services of the United States or in a service academy, Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of elective credit, including basic military service, from the Community College of the Air Force' University policy permits and encourages granting credit for appropriate educationdl experience in the armed services in accordance with their evaluation in the American Council on Education's 19g6 Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services or by the Commission on the Accreditation of Service Experiences evaluation service. Veterans requesting military service credit should submit a copy of their DD Form21.4 to the Records office for evaluation, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a member of Service Members Oppoftunity Colleges, Practical Training Adult students who have not earned a degree and wish to enter or return to the University after working for several years may be eligible to receive credit for their professional work experience, in-service training, and completion of certified professional programs, UTC's Credit for Practical Training program awards elective credit for those professional and in-service training experiences that have University equivalencies. Information concerning Credit for Practical Training is available in the Office of Cooperative Education and International Programs (423) , Students pay a portfolio/registration fee of g50.00 and an additional fee per credit hour, based on current University charges for practical Training credit hours awarded" Normally, non-traditional credit will not apply toward the last 24 hours of residency. However, students who have completed their last24 hours of traditional coursework at UTC and earn Practical Training credit in their final semester need not petition for an exception to the final 24-hour residency requirement. Students may earn no more than 24 semester hours of practical Training credit.
