1 The Intel NetStructure SIU520 Signaling Interface Intel in Communications The Intel NetStructure SIU520 signaling interface unit (SIU) provides Signaling System 7 (SS7) connectivity for multichassis call control, wireless, or Intelligent Networking (IN) applications. A message-based protocol application programming interface (API), compatible with other SIU systems and SS7 signaling boards, is presented over IP to application hosts. The Intel NetStructure SIU520 can run a wide range of SS7 protocols and local variants, enabling worldwide deployment in a variety of applications. Combining SS7 signaling boards with dual Intel Pentium III processors with 512K cache make this unit ideal for applications where high throughput of signaling traffic is required. 2 The Intel NetStructure SIU520 Signaling Interface Unit SIU Architecture The Intel NetStructure SIU520 provides access to all layers of the SS7 stack from MTP3 upwards. A driver on the application host sends and receives API messages over IP to and from the SIU. This architecture frees the application hosts to concentrate processor and memory resources on the application, making it ideal for high-performance distributed systems. Distributed Transaction Server The Distributed Transaction Server (DTS) module lets TCAP instances run on multiple application hosts. Routing to the hosts may be on an SCCP subsystem number (SSN) or TCAP transaction ID, letting hosts run different TCAP-user protocols such as GSM-MAP or INAP on different application hosts, and ensuring that transactions are traced back to the appropriate host. DTS allows for greater flexibility in system design, tailoring the loading of system elements to the particular application. TCAP and other application host binaries must be purchased separately. System Resilience Two Intel NetStructure SIU520s can be configured to share the same SS7 point code, providing fully resilient operation within a single point code.
