1 IDEXX Reference Laboratories Anatomic pathology consultants Ron Bell, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology Dr. Bell graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in He then entered the U.S. Army, where he practiced clinical veterinary medicine at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for 2 years. That was followed by a residency in comparative pathology and certification in anatomic pathology in Dr. Bell served as chief of the veterinary pathology division, assistant professor of pathology and director of the clinical laboratory at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and as a staff pathologist and principal investigator at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC. He established his own veterinary reference laboratory outside of Richmond, Virginia, in In December 2009, Dr. Bell joined IDEXX Reference Laboratories in Memphis. Terrell W. Blanchard, DVM, MSS, DACVP, DACVPM Regional Head of Pathology Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology, eye pathology Dr. Blanchard received his DVM from Oklahoma State University in After 2 years in private practice, he spent the next 21 years in the U.S. Army. He completed a residency in veterinary anatomic pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in 1999 and attained board certification that year. Dr. Blanchard served in a variety of positions in research and diagnostic pathology in the U.S. Department of Defense, culminating in chairmanship of the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the AFIP. He joined IDEXX in May With his wife, Dr. Karen Blanchard, he enjoys traveling and many outdoor activities. Jamie M. Bush, DVM, MS, DACVP Area(s) of interest: avian pathology, canine reproductive pathology, canine neuropathy, psittacine, oncologic pathology Dr. Bush is a board-certified veterinary anatomic pathologist who completed her veterinary training in 2004 at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by her residency and MS in 2008 at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She currently lives in Memphis with her two pugs, Nixon and Gianni, as well as her Mexican red-headed Amazon parrot, Rico. Vincent W. Carroll, VMD, DACVP Area(s) of interest: large-animal pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology Dr. Carroll received his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in Following graduation, he worked as a large animal practitioner in New York for 5 years. He then entered an anatomic pathology residency program at Tufts University in 2007, and in September 2011 he passed the American College of Veterinary Pathologists certifying examination. He joined the IDEXX team at the North Grafton, Massachusetts, laboratory in March His professional interests include diagnostic pathology of large animals, with a special interest in dermatopathology and neuropathology. In his free time, Dr. Carroll enjoys ice climbing, mountaineering, hiking, and backpacking. Mark Chalkley, BSc, BVSc (Hons), MANZCVSc (Pathobiology), DACVP Area(s) of interest: oral pathology, neuropathology Dr. Chalkley graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia, in He spent 1 year at a small-animal and exotic-animal practice in suburban Brisbane, Australia, followed by 2 years as a veterinary pathology intern at the University of Queensland. In 2009, he commenced a 3-year residency and fellowship in anatomic pathology at the University of Minnesota. He then successfully passed the American College of Veterinary Pathologists board examination in anatomic pathology in He continued on as a pathology instructor at the University of Minnesota for 1 year. He joined IDEXX in November Dr. Chalkley is a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, and the Australian Society for Veterinary Pathology. He is a registered manuscript reviewer for the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Pathology, and the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation. He has been a speaker at various international conferences and has authored several scientific publications on a variety of diagnostic interests in both small and large domestic-animal species.

2 Zoltan Demeter, DVM, PhD, DACVP Area(s) of interest: infectious diseases Dr. Demeter obtained his DVM at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania, in He pursued his interest in infectious diseases at the Doctoral School of Veterinary Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, in He taught in the pathology department of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences in Budapest and then completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Illinois. He is board-certified in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and has published 29 articles and received multiple awards, including the Scopus Young Scientist Award (2008) and the ACVP Young Investigator Award (2013). Dr. Demeter joined IDEXX in October Taryn A. Donovan, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: neuropathology, exotic species, infectious diseases, cardiac pathology Dr. Donovan graduated from Cornell University and completed an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, followed by a pathology residency at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. She obtained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2006 and gained additional postgraduate experience through a fellowship at the Zoological Society of San Diego. At the Animal Medical Center, Dr. Donovan directs interactive teaching and educational rounds, oversees the necropsy service in the pathology department, collaborates on research projects, and participates in the biopsy service through IDEXX Laboratories. Colleen Duncan, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVPM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: general surgical pathology, wildlife pathology Dr. Duncan earned her DVM and MSc from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She later completed her PhD and a residency program in anatomic pathology at Colorado State University, where she remained as a faculty member. She is a diplomate in both the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine. She has a wide range of species interests and has been involved in numerous research projects in both domestic and wild animals. In her free time, Dr. Duncan enjoys travel, outdoor adventures with her canine companions, and all aspects of horsemanship. Jamie Haddad*, VMD, DACVP Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology, bone marrow evaluation Dr. Haddad, a native New Yorker, received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in She remained there for her anatomic pathology residency and then continued on to a clinical pathology residency at North Carolina State University. Dr. Haddad is board-certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and is particularly interested in cytologic-histologic correlates. Upon completion of her pathology training, Dr. Haddad moved back to New York to work for IDEXX at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Erin Hardam, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: laboratory animal pathology, soft tissue sarcomas, dermatopathology Dr. Hardam received her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000 and completed her anatomic pathology training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. At the University of Pennsylvania, she was involved with work on feline pancreatitis, sarcomas of the central nervous system, and a novel therapy for pain relief in dogs. Dr. Hardam also spent time working with the San Diego Zoo pathology department. Jeremy Johnson*, DVM, PhD, DACVP Director, North America Pathology Area(s) of interest: surgical pathology, coagulation, bone marrow core samples, cytology Dr. Johnson received his DVM from Colorado State University in 1998 and completed residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology. His graduate work focused on vitamin K metabolism and vitamin K-dependent proteins involved in bone metabolism and coagulation. Board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Johnson has been with IDEXX since 2004.

3 Shannon Johnson, DVM, MVSc, DACVP Area(s) of interest: anatomic pathology Dr. Johnson received her BSc from the University of Saskatchewan in 1999 and her DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in After graduation, she completed an internship in small-animal medicine/surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following the internship, she returned to WCVM and completed a residency and an MVSc in anatomic pathology in Dr. Johnson attained American College of Veterinary Pathologists board certification in 2007 and spent the following year in Montreal as a toxicological pathologist. She joined IDEXX Reference Laboratories in In her spare time, Dr. Johnson enjoys swimming, running, and spending time outdoors with her rambunctious dogs. Tammy Johnson, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: surgical pathology, cytopathology, digital pathology, aquaria species pathology Dr. Johnson is a graduate of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, later completing residency training in anatomic pathology at Texas A&M University. She joined IDEXX in 2005 after 8 years as director of Sentara Veterinary Laboratory Services in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She enjoys routine diagnostic pathology but has special interest in the emerging field of digital pathology and is fascinated by the pathology of aquaria species, especially elasmobranchs (sharks, rays, and skates). The latter interest has grown from alliances with a local marine science museum and several commercial aquaria. Carroll Jones, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: avian and aquatic pathology, hematopoietic neoplasia, canine lymphoma Dr. Jones graduated from the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in After 4 years of private practice in small-animal medicine, she entered a pathology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Following residency and her successful board certification, she worked at the veterinary diagnostic laboratory of the University of New Hampshire (UNH) for 10 years. She taught a variety of courses in UNH s animal science department, in addition to performing service diagnostic work in cytology and histopathology. During her last 5 years at UNH, she became involved in aquaculture research and poultry diagnostics. Dr. Jones joined IDEXX in January of Jason Kimbro, DVM Area(s) of interest: aquatic animal pathology, nondomestic/ zoo-animal pathology Dr. Kimbro received his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He developed an early interest in anatomic pathology. In particular, he focused on diseases of nondomestic/zoo species, native wildlife, and aquatic animals. He completed the first 2 years of his anatomic pathology residency at the University of Florida, and his third year as a clinical instructor jointly with the university and the veterinary services department of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. He also currently helping IDEXX continue to develop their services and collaborations within East Asia. Nicole Kraipowich, DVM, MS, DACVP Area(s) of interest: anatomic pathology Dr. Kraipowich received her DVM from Iowa State University in While there, she also worked for the university s pathology department and for the National Animal Disease Center. After a few years spent in private practice in Oregon and North Dakota, she pursued an MS in veterinary pathology and microbiology at Colorado State University, graduating in Also that year, she became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. She joined IDEXX at the Westminster laboratory in Additionally, she serves as a relief veterinarian. Catherine Lamm, BS, DVM, MRCVS, DACVP Regional Head of Anatomic Pathology, Western U.S. Area(s) of interest: reproductive pathology, infectious diseases Dr. Lamm has been in the field of veterinary pathology since 1997, when she first started working on the postmortem floor at the University of California, Davis. She received a BS in microbiology from UC Davis in 1999 and a DVM from UC Davis in She completed her anatomic pathology residency at Cornell University and became board-certified through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in She was on the faculty at the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, before joining IDEXX in She is widely published in the fields of reproductive pathology and infectious diseases, predominantly in domestic species. She helped establish ACVP student chapters at universities within the United Kingdom and Australia. She is chair of the Student Chapter Committee and a proctor for the ACVP Examination Committee.

4 Kevin JungKeun Lee, DVM, MS, DACVP Area(s) of interest: dermatopathology, hepatic pathology, parasites Dr. Lee received his DVM at Konkuk University and MS degrees at the Seoul National University, Korea. He worked in smallanimal practice and emergency clinics for a year and was a pathologist at Neodin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Seoul, Korea, for 3 years. He came to the United States in 2004 to work as a research scientist at the University of Washington, Seattle, until He completed his anatomic pathology residency at Mississippi State University and became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in He began working for IDEXX in Thomas P. Lipscomb, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology Dr. Lipscomb attended Auburn University on a military scholarship and received his veterinary degree in 1981, entering the U.S. Army upon graduation. After running a busy smallanimal veterinary clinic in Okinawa, Japan, for 3 years, he entered the veterinary anatomic pathology residency program at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, DC, and achieved board certification 3 years later. He found his niche in diagnostic pathology and remained at the AFIP for 17 years, rising to the post of chief of the Division of Veterinary Pathology, and later, senior consulting pathologist. He has worked extensively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service on marine mammal disease investigations. He joined IDEXX in July When not at the microscope, he enjoys traveling and hiking. Serena Liu, VMD, MS, DACVP Area(s) of interest: dermatopathology Dr. Liu received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania. She became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 1996, and has been a practicing diagnostic pathologist since then, including positions at IDEXX, and the Animal Medical Center in New York, NY. Dr. Liu has a special interest in dermatopathology, and was mentored by Dr. Thelma Lee Gross during her time in California. She is a member of the International Society for Veterinary Dermatopathology and the American Association of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Liu lives in New York City with her family, which includes her dog Clancy and cat Olivia. In her spare time she enjoys travel, cooking, and the dual charms of city life (theatre, classical music) and country life (hiking, skiing, and gardening). Richard Luong, BVSc, DACVP Area(s) of interest: biomedical clinical research Dr. Luong earned his DVM from the University of Sydney, Australia, in He worked as a companion-animal veterinarian in the UK and Hong Kong before starting his career in veterinary anatomic pathology by working as a diagnostic pathologist in training with NSW Ag (now part of the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries) in Australia in He then joined the combined training program of the Animal Medical Center, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Rockefeller University as a veterinary anatomic pathology resident; he completed his residency in He stayed on as an associate pathologist with the Animal Medical Center until 2007, when he became board-certified through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Since 2007, he has been with the Department of Comparative Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine as a veterinary pathologist and senior research scientist. Dr. Luong joined IDEXX in October He is widely published in the fields of laboratory animal science/ pathology and biomedical research through his collaborations at Stanford University. He is supportive of the training of residents in veterinary pathology and is currently a member of the ACVP Examination Committee. Jeremiah Lyons, MVB, PhD, DACVP Area(s) of interest: general pathology, oncology, large-animal pathology Dr. Lyons earned his MVB degree from University College, Dublin (UCD), and then spent 2½ years in general veterinary practice. He then returned to UCD to complete his PhD in veterinary pathology. He completed his residency training at the University of Tennessee in anatomic pathology and passed the board examination that year. He worked for 3 years at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine as an anatomic pathologist before joining IDEXX in January 2015.

5 Becky McElhaney, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology, mammalian pathology, dermatopathology, reproductive pathology Dr. McElhaney received a BS in agriculture from the University of Florida in 1983 and a DVM from the University of Florida in She completed the first 2 years of her residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Florida, and a third year at the University of California, Davis. She remained at UC Davis as a staff pathologist and chief of the university s pathology service until joining IDEXX in She has been board-certified in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since Barbara McMahill, DVM, DACVP, PhD Area(s) of interest: dermatopathology Dr. McMahill earned her DVM degree in 2006 at the Technical University of Lisbon School of Veterinary Medicine in Portugal, where she also held an assistant veterinarian position. In 2010, she completed her residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, and in 2014 she completed a PhD in comparative pathology there. She has developed a special interest in veterinary dermatopathology under the mentorship of Dr. Verena Affolter and Dr. Thelma Lee Gross. She joined IDEXX in 2014 and is currently a board member of the International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology. Andrew D. Miller, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: neuropathology, surgical tumor pathology Dr. Miller began working in the pathology field as a student pathology intern with the New York State Wildlife Pathology Unit in He received his DVM from Cornell University in 2005, during which time he worked as a student pathology technician. He received a BS in animal science with distinction in research from Cornell University in He completed a residency in anatomic pathology at Cornell University and is board-certified through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (2008). He has been on faculty at Harvard Medical School and Cornell University. He has published widely in laboratory animal pathology, neuropathology, and tumor pathology, focusing primarily on spontaneously arising conditions in laboratory and companion animals. Dr. Miller has a strong interest in collaborative work with academic and private industry. He is active in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, where he serves as cochair of the natural disease session at the annual pathology meeting. He is also a full committee member of the ACVP Examination Committee and is a member of the Veterinary Pathology editorial board. Timothy Morgan, DVM, DACVP, PhD Area(s) of interest: anatomic pathology, neoplastic pathology Dr. Morgan is a 1993 graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced small-animal medicine for several years in Colorado Springs following veterinary school, and then did an anatomic pathology residency and a PhD at Iowa State University in Ames. After he finished his residency and PhD, he became a faculty member at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, where he worked for about 7 years. In 2010, he accepted a faculty position at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he currently works. Away from the microscope, Dr. Morgan enjoys riding motorcycles, camping, and cooking. He has 2 adult children and an 11-yearold. He is planning a cross-country motorcycle camping trip with his 11-year-old in summer 2016, during which they hope to meet up with his daughter who will be hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Bradley L. Njaa, BSc (Hons), DVM, MVSc, DACVP Area(s) of interest: general pathology, otic pathology, ocular pathology, infectious disease, large-animal pathology, avian pathology, respiratory pathology Dr. Njaa earned a BSc with honors in physiology from the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), also at the U of S, in Following 5 years in mixed-animal practice in central Saskatchewan, Dr. Njaa returned to WCVM for residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology and obtained an MVSc in pathology. His residency training was completed in 1999 in the department of veterinary pathology, WCVM, U of S. He has been on the faculty at Purdue University s Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory ( ), the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University ( ), and the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences at Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Stillwater. His publications include Kirkbride s Diagnosis of Abortion and Neonatal Loss in Animals, 4th edition, and the ear portion of The Ear and Eye in Zachary and McGavin s Pathologic Basis of Veterinary Disease, 5th edition. He has served on several committees in the ACVP, including the ACVP Examination Committee. He and his wife have three children and five dogs.

Novak, DVM, PhD, DACVP Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology, pocket pets, amphibians, reptiles Dr. Novak received her veterinary and graduate training concurrently at the University of Florida, completing her DVM in 2008 and PhD in 2007 through the assistance of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Novak completed her residency training at the University of Tennessee and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in After boards in 2011, Dr. Novak joined IDEXX in Memphis, Tennessee, and then transferred to the North Grafton, Massachusetts, laboratory in April Her interests include diagnostic pathology with special interest in pocket pets, amphibians, and reptiles. Dr. Novak spends as much nonworking time as possible with her husband, son, and two Pembroke corgis. She also enjoys hiking, gardening, and traveling. David Pinson*, DVM, PhD, DACVP, DACLAM Area(s) of interest: research, surgical pathology, laboratory animal medicine Dr. Pinson is a 1978 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After 2 years of private practice in western Kentucky, he returned to postgraduate medical education in a program that combined laboratory animal medicine with veterinary pathology training, which resulted in his PhD in experimental pathology in He continued his studies at Auburn University and the University of Florida, becoming board-certified in anatomic pathology in 1986 and laboratory animal medicine in Dr. Pinson has been active in veterinary medicine for the past 25 years, including ownership of his own laboratory operation. In addition to having his work published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, he has served on several editorial boards and holds memberships in many professional associations. Teena Price, BVMS, BSc, DACVP Area(s) of interest: round cell tumors, immunohistochemistry Dr. Price graduated from Murdoch University, Australia, with a bachelor of veterinary medicine and surgery (DVM equivalent) in She worked in mixed practice, small-animal practice, and emergency clinics in England and Australia from She completed a veterinary pathology internship at the University of Queensland in 2004 and an anatomic pathology residency at University of California, Davis, in She has been board-certified through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since Geneviève Remmers, DVM, DACVP Area(s) of interest: bone pathology, bone marrow pathology, diagnostic pathology Dr. Remmers received her DVM degree from the University of Montreal in Following graduation, she completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Remmers attained American College of Veterinary Pathologists board certification in She is fluent in both French and English and is able to provide anatomic pathology consults in both languages. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Remmers enjoys cooking, traveling, and visiting friends and family along with spending time with her two dogs, Paco and Lola. Lois Roth-Johnson*, DVM, PhD, DACVP Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist Area(s) of interest: diagnostic pathology, gastrointestinal and liver disease, infectious diseases Dr. Roth-Johnson began her veterinary career when she received her DVM from Cornell University. After completing a residency in anatomic pathology at Oklahoma State University, she returned to Cornell to earn her PhD. She then became board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Roth- Johnson has served on the faculties at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and at the University of Florida. For 9 years, she was director of the clinical laboratory at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital.

In 2000, he began working at the North Carolina State Diagnostic Laboratory in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he still works full-time as a pathologist. In 2001, he began a residency in anatomic pathology at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Rushton was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathology in 2006 and, a year later, began working for IDEXX as a contracting anatomic pathologist. Duncan Russell, BVMS (Hons), DACVP Area(s) of interest: cardiovascular and pulmonary pathology, bone pathology Dr. Russell received his veterinary training at Glasgow University (Scotland), having grown up in the greater Edinburgh area. After emigrating to the United States in 2006, he chose to pursue residency training at Cornell University, gaining board certification in He enjoyed a very happy 4 years at The Ohio State University, working as an assistant professor. His family recently relocated to Oregon State University where he is currently an anatomic pathologist at Oregon State University, working primarily as a diagnostician, training anatomic pathology residents, and performing collaborative research. Donald H. Schlafer, BS, DVM, PhD, DACVP, DACT, DACVM Area(s) of interest: comparative reproductive pathology of large and small animals Dr. Schlafer graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1974, practiced for a few years in Guilderland, New York, and then completed his anatomic pathology residency and PhD through the University of Georgia. He joined the Cornell faculty as a comparative reproductive pathologist in 1982 and recently retired from his tenured professorship at the university after 32 years. Dr. Schlafer has maintained a strong interest in clinical practice and has been a frequent speaker at national and international meetings. She worked at Experimental Pathology Laboratories (EPL) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, as a diagnostic pathologist, maintaining a teaching position at NC State. In 1995 she accepted a position in Columbus, Ohio, with the LabCorp veterinary branch doing both anatomic and clinical pathology and oversight of veterinary laboratory testing. She then accepted a position at Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Columbus, joining IDEXX when VDL was acquired in While at VDL she worked to develop information and standards for avian and exotic testing; she has always had an interest in the pathology of avian and exotic species and focuses on ferret pathology. David Henry Zeman, DVM, PhD, DACVP Area(s) of interest: dermatopathology, neoplasia, infectious diseases Dr. Zeman received his DVM from Oklahoma State University and his PhD in anatomic pathology from Louisiana State University.
