3 Continuing Education Facts All producers are required to complete twenty four (24) hours of continuing education (CE) during each two (2) year renewal. Exception: See next bullet. At renewal, if you are at least fifty five (55) years old and have maintained a valid RI license for at least 25 years without interruption or lapse, you are exempt from the CE requirement. information claiming this exemption, with a description of why the exemption applies to inslic@dbr.state.ri.us. You must obtain three (3) hours of Ethics each renewal period. You are not permitted to take the same course more than once per renewal period. Up to 12 CE credits accumulated during a renewal license cycle may be carried froward to the next renewal period. Ethics credits may be carried forward but only as general credits - they may not be used to satisfy the ethics requirement in the new renewal license cycle. Individuals are no longer required to take a pre-licensing course. For those serious about passing the RI Producer Exam, IIARI regularly offers preparatory classes throughout the year. 3
4 IIARI Policies Registration There are two ways to register for a class/seminar. You may enroll online or download/mail a registration form secured from the IIARI website. Exam Retakes A $30 fee will be charged for every ACSR and AAI exam retake. Certificates You will not receive a CE certificate if payment has not been received by the day of your class. Once payment is received, a certificate will be mailed. Cancellations To receive a full refund, IIARI must receive the cancellation request no later than three (3) days prior to the class and study material must be returned. Requests received within the three (3) day period are subject to a 20% cancellation fee. No shows forfeit the entire registration fee. Winter Weather In the event of inclement weather, call IIARI at to find out if your class/seminar has been cancelled. Messages will be posted by 7:00 am on the day of the class. If there is no message addressing the weather - the class/seminar will be held at the advertised starting time. 4

Owners/managers will know exactly what topics are covered and can follow up with their staff to ensure the new ideas and information are implemented. 10 CIC Program The Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Program is a nationally acclaimed continuing education designation program. Its course content and practical application make it the most essential program for both agency and company personnel. 13 CISR Program The Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) program is a practical program that stresses the understanding and analysis of risks and exposures. A student should have a basic knowledge of insurance. The CISR program consists of 5 one-day courses that cover all phases of the CSR s daily work. They are as follows Agency Operations, Commercial Casualty I, Commercial Casualty II, Commercial Property, Personal Auto, Personal Residential, Personal Lines Miscellaneous, Life & Health Essentials and Elements of Risk Management. You must take 5 out of the 9 courses to earn your designation. You may take the courses in any order. Each course is followed by a one-hour exam. Anyone may attend the courses and receive the CEUs without taking the exam. However, if you wish to attain the designation, you must pass each of the 5 exams. To earn the CISR designation you must successfully complete the program and pass the exams within three calendar years following the passage of the first exam. Classes are listed on page 14 13

15 CPIA Program & Update The Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) Designation is the first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training. To earn the CPIA designation, candidates are required to participate in a series of three, one-day Insurance Success Seminars. These Seminars are designed to enhance the ability of producers, sales support staff and company personnel to efficiently create and distribute effective insurance programs. Participants leave with ideas that will produce increased sales results immediately. To obtain the CRIS certification, you complete 5 specialized courses on construction risks and insurance.
