3 New York CBB: the pioneer The New York CBB is the first integrated program for cord blood banking and transplant: THE NATIONAL CORD BLOOD PROGRAM. It has produced a number of crucial papers on the biology, processing and transplant of placental cells. Inventory including more than 40,000 units More than 2700 transplants performed Associated to, NMDP, BMDW and NETCORD

5 Auscord Auscord is one of the first CBBs integrated program. The CBBs of the Australian program are situated in the Sydney Children s Hospital; the Royal Children s Hospital, Melbourne and in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Brisbane Inventory including more than 18,000 units More than 378 transplants performed Their communication systems acts through the Australian Bone Marrow Donors Registry. Associated to BMDW and NETCORD

6 Belgium CBB program It operates through the Belgium Cord Blood Registry and includes three CBBs: Brussels, Gant and Liege. Inventory including more than 6500 units More than 200 transplants performed Associated to NETCORD and FACT/NETCORD accredited Leuvencord is an independent program with an inventory of 8000 units and more than 104 transplants Associated to NETCORD

7 FRANCE CORD Is a single CBB program with a central coordination in Paris and other three operational locations: Besançon on,, Bordeaux and Annemasse (storage centre) Overal inventory includes more than 6500 units More than 700 transplants performed Associated to NETCORD and BMDW The whole French unrelated donors activity has been integrated in the recently created Agence de la Biomedicine. France Cord program has adopted the FACT/Netcord standards and, Besançon CBB is accredited.

9 The Italian network First embryo on 1996 under the leadership of the Milano Cord Blood bank Pioneer of the concept of cord blood inventories networking under a single quality assurance system (ISO 9000) The current Italian Network includes the 16 Italian active pubblic CBBs in a single network managed by IBMDR: Treviso, Padova, Milano, Torino, Pavia, Bologna, Genova,Firenze, Pisa, Lazio (Roma La Sapienza e Roma Tor Vergata), Roma Università Cattolica, Pescara, Napoli, Reggio Calabria, Verona) The current inventory includes more than CBUs More than 650 units transplanted The Milano CBB has been one of the NETCORD founders and one of the first to obtain the FACT/NETCORD accreditation. 11 The NMDP Cord Blood Program The USA National Marrow Donor Program has developed a network of 23 USA and non USA CBBs : San Diego CA, Denver CO, Durham CN, Orange CA, Altamonte Springs FL, Glenview IL, Detroit MI, Gainesville FL, Houston TX, Camden NJ, Seattle WA, Tel Hashomer (Israel), St. Louis MO, Arcadia CA, LinKou (Taiwan), San Antonio TX, Orlando FL and Allendale NJ, Singapore, Sheba CBB (Israel), Taiwan CBB... Current inventory: more than 87,000 units >2200 CBU have been delivered for transplant. Accreditation: AABB and FACT/NETCORD Operation through NMDP search system (in addition to 8M MUD) Associated to 171 USA and non USA transplant centers. NMDP / NETCORD agreement Arcadia, Durham and Houston have already obtained the FACT/NETCORD accreditation. Appointment for management of the Bill Young National CB program

13 The Spanish Network: Six regional CBBs and 11 donation programs: Barcelona (Catalonia, Balears, Aragon, Navarra, Extremadura), Madrid, Malaga (Andalucia, Castilla La Mancha), Santiago, Tenerife, Valencia. PESCU recently aproved It includes more than 30,000 stored CBU more than 650 transplanted. Barcelona CBB has been one of the NETCORD founders. Málaga and Santiago CBB are NETCORD members. They operate in collaboration with the Spanish BMD registry: REDMO

15 The Asian network: Founded in November 2000 in Bangkok It includes the major CBB in Asia: Beijing, Tianjin, Seoul,Taipei, Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok and Tokyo. Organization based on NETCORD statutes and standards. Operated through an electronic search system. Rapidly increasing inventory. Updated data from Taipei units stored and JCBBN: units stored and more than 4384 transplants generated. The Tokyo CBB is the more active one with 5710 units stored 740 transplants performed.

16 BMDW Pioneer organization on the procurement of unrelated donors for hemopoietic transplants founded on 1988, central offices in Leiden. Voluntary collaborative effort with the goal to provide centralised information on the HLA and other relevant data of unrelated stem cell donors and cord blood units Internal search algorithm based on the HLA typing of patients lists potential donors and their location. Participants: 58 stem cell donor registries from 43 countries, and 38 cord blood banks from 21 countries. The current number of donors and cord blood units : over 12,000,000 and 400,000, respectively

17 EUROCORD is an international registry on behalf of the European Blood and Marrow Transplant group (EBMT), including European and non European centres. EUROCORD collaborates with CBBs by validation of data and sending statistical analysis of the cord blood transplants performed with their respective units to every associated CBBs EUROCORD registry based analysis has developed crucial reports supporting the concept of establishing cryopreserved cord blood banks for clinical use.
