3 Purpose of the Series The purpose of the Ethanol Workshop Series (EWS) was to provide information about the emerging cellulose-to- ethanol industry so that a foundation of mutual knowledge could be established, from which an ethanol industry could smoothly develop or increase when the technology is ready for commercialization. The very elementary goal was to have a cellulose ethanol plant in every state in the U.S. Another goal was to increase the coordination within the state and between state and federal governments. Key officials and players in each state who previously had little or no communication about biofuels came together to share information and develop a program that would foster continued education, communication, policy and planning.

4 Purpose continued The EWS took Federal initiatives to the regional, state and local levels for successful implementation. The workshops were designed to be very state-specific, effectively addressing state and regional issues. To accomplish this, it was necessary, and desired, to work hand-in-hand with the existing grain-ethanol industry.

California Five projects; one in production, two under construction, three planned.

16 Comments Thanks to the US DOE Ethanol Workshop, interest and support of fuel ethanol in Hawaii went from zero to sixty in one week. [This] workshop will play a key role in moving renewable fuels forward in Oklahoma.
