1 APA Reference Format Simplified APA (2010) requires a hanging indent and double-spacing for its references. Always use italics, not underlining, when required (for example, with book and journal titles). If a magazine or journal does not have a volume number, you must use the p. or pp. abbreviation for page(s). Note: APA 2010 requires you to use DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) when possible.
