1 Campus Hours Parent-Student Handbook Policy Changes and Highlights If you are visiting, you must stop at the Main Office in the Administration Building to obtain a Visitor s Badge. The Visitor s Badge must be worn at all times while on campus. The Main Office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Classroom instruction begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:35 p.m. on Regular Schedule days. Students who remain on campus after school must go to either the Student Community Center or the Knowledge Center (Library). The Student Community Center and Knowledge Center are closed on In-service afternoons. The Student Community Center is open from 7am to 4pm. Knowledge Center hours for study and research are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Bishop Manogue Catholic High School does not offer afterschool supervision of students and is not liable after 3pm for any student who remains on campus. Christian Service Hour Requirement Bishop Manogue requires its students to participate in acts of service to the community. The following Christian Service requirements are for all students. 1. All students are required to complete 100 hours of Christian Service in order to graduate. A minimum of 25 hours per year is required. Students who are deficient in service hours may be denied re-enrollment for the following school year. Service hours earned that exceed the 25 per year count toward the 100-hour cumulative total. It is expected that all 100 service hours will be completed by the end of first semester of senior year (December). 2. All Christian Service hours must be approved by Campus Ministry in advance. Campus Ministry maintains a list of pre-approved opportunities/locations on the website. Parent signatures will not be accepted as verification of their own child s Christian Service hours. 3. Students must engage in at least four different Christian Service experiences to accumulate their 100 hours. Media Release There are many opportunities and occasions before, during and after, our school year to photograph, videotape or otherwise capture students images and/or opinions, both inside and outside of our school. Bishop Manogue reserves the right to use such images in publications including, but not limited to, the school yearbook, newspapers, websites and promotional materials. Bishop Manogue may also provide such images to community newspapers, media contacts, etc. Parents must submit to the Administration, in writing, any objection to the use of their student s image for such purposes. Credit without a Letter Grade Bishop Manogue will transcript credit (CR) without a letter grade for the following: Internship, any zero period course, any summer course, Teacher Aide, Office Aide, and Counseling Aide. Students enrolled in these courses who receive (CR) will not have the class calculated into the GPA. Incomplete Grades Incomplete grades (INC) must be made up within 3 school days after the end of the quarter (3 summer business days for the fourth quarter). Incomplete grades may revert to a grade of F after 3 days. Exceptions may be granted only by the Administration. Class Rank Bishop Manogue does not rank students.

2 Summative Reassessment Procedures Students learn at different rates, and they need multiple chances to demonstrate mastery of a competency or skill. A student who does not obtain at minimum of 70% mastery on a summative assessment has the option to reassess, provided they complete a reassessment plan with their teacher which may include a deadline for completion of the reassessment as well as the completion of several formative assessments at a proficient level prior to taking a summative reassessment. Communication Systems and Expectations Bishop Manogue Catholic High School encourages open and positive communication between the home and the school. From time to time, parents may have a concern regarding their student s progress in an academic course or co-curricular activity. When this happens, parents are asked to address their concern to the appropriate person respecting the chain of responsibility. The Chain of Responsibility This is the expected procedure to address concerns. Student self-advocacy is an important skill that must be learned and practiced; therefore, it is always the first level of addressing a concern. The audio or video recording of conversations either in person, by telephone, or by other electronic means by or among students, parents, teachers, or school administrators on school property or involving the use of school communication devices is strictly prohibited without the express written permission of the school Administration.

3 Dress Code Policies Dennis Uniform Company is the preferred uniform supplier for Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. Listed below are the uniform choices for men and women with appropriate requirements. Uniform items can be viewed at the Dennis Uniform web page: dennisuniform.com. Our school code is: W0KBIS. Drawings and descriptions of items are available. The school uniform will be strictly enforced. Overall Appearance Expectations The overall appearance of students at Bishop Manogue should be neat, clean, modest, and appropriate for learning. The following are guidelines that must be observed: Nothing in a student s appearance will be permitted that is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Tattoos must be covered. Men must shave all facial hair sideburns length may not exceed earlobes. Men with facial hair must shave student will be given a deadline to shave after deadline student will be sent home until shaved. No extreme hairstyles or extreme combination of contrasting colors as judged by the Administration. Haircuts may not have numerals/designs. Men s hair may be no longer than the top of the shirt collar and may not cover the eyebrows or ears. Men s hair not meeting dress code student will be given a deadline to cut the hair after deadline student will be sent home until hair is cut. Only the ears may be pierced (piercing may not be larger than the diameter of a needle.) Men may wear stud earrings only. No excessive jewelry or ear piercings. Backpacks or binders may not display liquor logos or obscene, vulgar, distasteful phrases or pictures. Sunglasses may not be worn inside buildings. Clothing that distracts the learning/teaching environment as judged by the Administration must be changed prior to the student resuming classes. No caps, hats or head coverings are permitted unless approved by Administration Slacks, at all times, and jeans worn on Spirit Days may not be frayed, torn, ripped or altered. General Dress Code Expectations The dress code is designed to reflect a business casual appearance. Daily attire consists of: Dennis khaki/navy blue slacks or Dennis khaki/navy blue knee-length shorts. No rips, holes, tears, or sagging. Dennis khaki or plaid knee-length skorts (girls only). Shorts and Skort length will be strictly enforced. Dennis Polo Shirts (must tuck their shirts in) All undershirts must be Bishop Manogue white and must be tucked in. All must wear a belt and the belt must be visible at all times. Socks must be solid school colors (no knee socks or tights) Closed toe shoes boots, including Ugg or Ugg style boots are only permissible with slacks. They may not be worn with shorts. No slippers, slipper style shoes, or flip-flops. Dennis Outerwear may be worn during the day as well as Bishop Manogue approved full zip team jackets and Letterman Jackets in school colors only. Other jackets may be worn to and from school but must be placed in the locker prior to the start of 1st period and they may not be carried throughout the school day. Bishop Manogue approved appropriately fitting uniform sweatshirt sold in the Campus Store may be worn during the day. NOTE: If a student is out of dress code, the student is required to change inappropriate clothing by getting it from home or from the Main Office. Repeated violations of the dress code may incur further disciplinary action. Dress Code Violations and Consequences It is the right and responsibility of the Administration to regulate against unbecoming and inappropriate fads or fashions. Dress code violations are determined according to the judgment of the Administration, faculty, and staff.

4 Backpacks Backpacks may be used to transport classroom and personal belongings to and from the student s locker. Backpacks are not allowed inside of any classroom. Students must keep backpacks inside their lockers at all times. Discipline Reporting to Postsecondary Institutions Colleges may consider a student s disciplinary record as part of their admissions process. The Bishop Manogue Catholic High School policy regarding disclosure of disciplinary records is that we will notify colleges that request such information only of infractions resulting in disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion from Bishop Manogue. This includes incidents that occur during the senior year after applications have been submitted. Students are advised to consult with the college counselor in such eventuality. If a student withdraws from Bishop Manogue Catholic High School to avoid disciplinary action, we reserve the right to report the infraction to the colleges. We do not report disciplinary action that occurred at previous schools attended. We do not report academic warnings or probation to the colleges because that is an internal measure to assist students in improving their performance. Drug and Alcohol Policy Bishop Manogue strives to witness to the Catholic faith, to be a leader in our community and to be compassionate toward others. As part of the mission and philosophy, it is imperative not only to provide a safe environment, but also to educate the whole person. Bishop Manogue Catholic High School s academic, spiritual, social, and moral education holds students to a high standard for personal bests and wellness. Recognizing that use of alcohol and illicit drugs by students is a national problem, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School has put a program of deterrence into effect, as a pro-active approach to a truly safe and drug free school. Students using illegal drugs pose a threat to their own health and safety, as well as to that of other students. The purpose of this program is fourfold: (1) to provide for the health and safety of all Students; (2) to undermine the effects of peer pressure by providing a legitimate reason for Students to refuse to use illegal drugs; (3) to encourage Students who use drugs to participate in drug treatment programs; and (4) prevent the impact drug and alcohol use has on the learning centers of the brain allowing students to achieve their full academic potential while a student within Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. The program is non-punitive. It is designed to create a safe, drug free, environment for students and assist them in getting help when needed. In an effort to provide a safe environment for students while also holding students accountable for their actions, it is essential that students and parents fully understand the consequences of drug and alcohol use, abuse, and/or distribution. The guidelines outlined in this policy provide a method for the school not only to minister to its students and families through our offer of support, but also to demonstrate our commitment to student safety, education of the whole person, and wellness. In light of this commitment, students attending Bishop Manogue Catholic High School will be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing. In addition to random drug and alcohol testing, upon reasonable suspicion, Administration may request and require a student to undergo such testing. The school reserves the right to randomly test all students at all school activities. If found in violation of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, the student s parents will be notified immediately. It is the objective of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School Administration to maintain a safe environment, but also to provide education and support services to any student who is caught under the influence of illegal substances as a result of such testing. Even though the program is designed to assist students, violations may result in disciplinary action. Discipline will be progressive with multiple levels of consequences and support. However, repeat offenders may be dismissed from our school. The cost of the random testing will be absorbed by the school while the cost of the reasonable suspicion testing will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Substance Abuse Descriptors Prohibited substances include the following: Alcohol defined as any liquor, wine, beer or other beverage containing alcohol.

5 Drugs that are illegal, including but not limited to marijuana, methadone, opiates, amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, ecstasy, molly, synthetic THC Spice, inhalants, anabolic steroids, legal prescription and over-the-counter drugs used or possessed or distributed for unauthorized purposes, look-a-like herbal of any kind. Drug paraphernalia, defined as any equipment/apparatus designed for or used for the purpose of measuring, packaging, distributing, or facilitating the use of drugs. Inhalants, such as aerosols and correction fluids, which are used to huff or sniff. Synthetic urine, human urine in any container, or any detox substance. Mood altering substances such as bath salts. Random Testing Collection Process Students may be randomly chosen through a computerized program and will be tested throughout the school year. Students will be tested for drug use through a recognized drug-testing laboratory, Vendor TBA. Testing may include hair samples, saliva samples, and/or urinalysis as determined necessary and/or effective by the school. The student will be required to test at a location determined by the school. All specimens are sent to a Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) certified laboratory and confirmed on the molecular level. All tests are subjected to a minimum 17-panel adulterant test. Reasonable Suspicion Testing We encourage and support our students in their efforts to be drug and alcohol free. Any student seeking help for himself or herself, or for a friend, from a teacher, administrator, counselor, or other member of the staff will be given help without penalty. When a student is seeking help for a friend or acquaintance, a request for anonymity will be honored. We see this action as mature and caring, and we fully support it. If a student is suspected of being under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or inhalants while on campus or at any school-sponsored activity off campus, the following steps will be taken: 1. To ensure objectivity and to protect the student from erroneous judgments, the student will be given a drug/alcohol test. This may happen by two methods: a breath test for alcohol using an intoximeter and/or a urine or hair test to determine alcohol or other drugs in the body. A urine sample will be taken at the time the student is brought to an administrator and the specimen will be sent to the designated lab. The results will be sent directly to the school. 2. If a student does not comply with or refuses the drug/alcohol test, parents are required to take their child to the designated lab for a drug/alcohol test the same day. Parents are responsible for the fee for this test and the results will be delivered directly to the school. If parents don't comply, the student may be dismissed from our school. Drug Test Results If a student s drug screen is negative, indicating drug-free, the parents will receive a letter reporting those results. If a dilute sample result is received from the laboratory, a second test may be requested. If a second test sample is dilute, it will be assumed positive. The student will then be provided drug education and support as well as progressive discipline. If a student s drug screen is positive, the parents will be notified immediately and will be provided the laboratory report. The parents and student will be required to meet with the Administration to obtain information regarding the school s drug prevention resources. If the student tests positive and is an athlete, all NIAA sanctions will apply to the student. If the parent or student wishes to contest the results, the Vendor will arrange for the split portion of the specimen to be submitted to another laboratory approved for testing. This is done at parent/guardian or student expense. Such a request must be made to the Principal in writing within five working days from first notification of positive test results.

6 Non-punitive Nature of Policy Information regarding the results of drug tests will not be disclosed to criminal or juvenile authorities absent legal compulsion by valid and binding subpoena or other legal process, which the school will not solicit. In the event of service of any such subpoena or legal process, the student and the student s parents or legal guardian, will be notified at least 72 hours before response is made by the school, to the extent permitted by such subpoena or legal process. Consequences for positive tests are administered at the discretion of Administration. Once again the program is non-punitive. It is designed to create a safe, drug free, environment for students and assist them in getting help when needed.
