3 AROMATHERAPY : The Definition & its beginning Aromatherapy is an art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to bring in balance among body mind and soul History goes as far back as 10,000 B.C where carvings depicting the distillation of herbs, woods, and flowers have been found Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Indian, Chinese, and Persians have been known to have used plant extracts for diverse use. 4 AROMATHERAPY :: In the modern era The term aromatherapy was coined by French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse in 1928 to imply the therapeutic use of aromatic substances Aromatherapy is the most increasingly popular complimentary treatment of our age Aromatherapy has gained considerable popularity in Europe, USA & Canada and is marking its presence in INDIA
5 CLINICAL AROMATHERAPY :: Broad definition Clinical Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of plant-derived, aromatic essence volatile absolutes which are known to us as Essential Oils (EOs) Clinical Aromatherapy has both preventive approach as well as curative approach
6 ESSENTIAL OILS Essential Oils are capacitators of medicinal value of the plant sources from which they are derived Essential Oils used in the natural and purest form unlike the synthetic analogs of the same chemical constituent

11 CLINICAL AROMATHERAPY :: Therapeutic application Aromatherapy treatment is useful in the healing of many diseases and conditions including: Calming the mind for insomnia and mood cycles Skin disorders such as alopecia, dermatitis, acne, eczema &psoriasis Promoting emotional healing such as for depression hysteria, lack of concentration and panic attacks Treating burns & bruises Respiratory ailments like - asthma, bronchitis
12 CLINICAL AROMATHERAPY :: Therapeutic application Studies have found that people with rheumatoid arthritis, (using topical chamomile) and headaches (using topical peppermint) require fewer pain medications when they use aromatherapy.
