1 BUSINESS CAREERS What area in Business should I go into? Choosing what type of business career to pursue can sometimes be a difficult choice; many business careers require similar skill- sets. However, there are many differences in terms of work environment and typical duties and it is best to find a career that will fit your own unique interests, skills, and values.

Accountant/Auditors (FINANCE) Advertising/Marketing Human Resources Securities/Stockbrokers (FINANCE) Sales Representatives (BUSINESS ADMIN) Office Managers (BUSINESS ADMIN.) Entrepreneur (small or large business owner) Business Executive (BUSINESS ADMIN.)
3 What type of job would I like in Business? IS FINANCE FOR YOU? Are you the treasurer of a club or organization? Do you enjoy working with numbers? Do you balance your checkbook? Are you interested in the stock market? Do you like to operate calculators? Are you comfortable following detailed plans for work?
4 If you answered yes to two or more of the questions in the last slide, you might be interested in considering a career in finance. Business Finance Careers demand that you have the ability to pay attention to details. You might provide financial services to a business or individual. Your work could include maintaining records or giving advice to business executives on how to operate their business. You could work in financial planning, banking, or insurance.

If you are interested in working in the Marketing, Sales, and Service industry, you would help businesses sell products. You might advertise and promote products so customers would want to buy them. Or you might sell products and services directly to customers. Or you might use the Internet to reach customers.

11 What about Business Management? Are you good at organizing events? People? Are you a natural born leader? Are you organized? Good with numbers? Can you see all the parts that make up the whole? Do you have the ability to fire, hire and develop effective groups, systems, teams?

If you are interested in the Business, Management, and Administration industry, there are many career options. You may provide the needed support to keep a business in operation. You could manage the financial activities of a business. Another option is to be sure that a business has qualified employees who are trained to do their jobs. Or after years of education or experience, you might direct the operations of a business.

Typically students who are interested in a 4 year business degree or even an MBA, go for an Associate s s of Arts transfer degree and take business courses for their elective requirements OR they study the Business Information Technology program (AAS) and transfer to a 4 year university.
15 Which schools have 4 year business programs and beyond? Michael G. Foster School of Business at the UW has programs in: Accounting, Human Resource Mgmt., Business Policy, Finance, Information Systems, Operations Mgmt., Marketing, Intl Business, and Business Communications. 16 Other 4 year programs and beyond Western Washington has a large offering of Business degrees. Eastern and Washington State University have a large offering of Business degrees also! PLU, SPU, CityU and Gonzaga have business program offerings if you are interested in smaller classes at a private university!
17 How much money will I make? Salaries vary depending on company and industry, degree, experience and position held. The average entry level wage for a newly graduated college student with a BA degree in Accounting is around $50,000 and goes on up depending on degree, experience and position held - on the upper scale business executives make as much as $110,000 and more!
