9 Requirements for In-Place Upgrade Requirement Details Default image You must use the install.wim from the Windows 10 media for the in place upgrade. Internet Explorer 11 Deployment Salutation Microsoft recommend that Internet Explorer is deployed to your environment before upgrading to Windows10. The supported deployment solutions for Windows10 in place upgrades are; System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1 System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP2 Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2013 Upgrade 1

10 Limitations with In-Place Upgrade Situation Change of OS Architecture BIOS to UEFI Operation System Language Change Change in SKU Third Party Encryption Duel-boot systems Details The upgrade process cannot change from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS due to driver and application. Change from BIOS to UEFI makes a change in disk layout and this is not supported in the upgrade process. The upgrade process cannot change the base language of the operating system. Changing the operating system version is not supported. You can only go from same version to higher, e.g. upgrading from Professional to Enterprise, or Enterprise to Enterprise. Only BitLocker encrypted devices can easily be upgraded. Check with vendor for supported method of upgrade. The upgrade process only supports devices running a single operating system.
