1 Riverdale High School Spanish Honor Society members participate in 2013 homecoming parade. 1 FFLA, Inc. Teacher of Promise Award The Teacher of Promise is a program developed by FFLA to recognize our profession s outstanding young teachers. These awards are designed for teachers who have completed their first, second or third year of teaching and who show promise to be exceptional teachers and leaders in foreign language education. We want to congratulate Mrs. Louise Boucicaut, Lehigh Senior High School, and Ms. Judith Cintron, North Ft Myers High School, for being recognized. They will both receive the WL Teacher of Promise Awards presented during the Awards Luncheon at the joint FFLA/ACTFL Conference, at the Orange County Convention Center in November Mrs. Matos s 6th graders at Caloosa Middle On October 18th, Mrs. Gretel Matos s 8th grade students and the Spanish club went to EL Mambo restaurant to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. They were able to practice what they have learned in class. They ordered in Spanish, asked for utensils when eating, and asked for the bill at the end. The parents also attended, and they felt very proud of the progress of the kids in learning a second language. Students from Caloosa Middle School Students at El Mambo Restaurant

2 North Step into Culture Celebration Week South West Board of Commissioners of Lee County gave North Fort Myers High School their First Resolution for North Step into Culture Week Celebration. Ms. Judith Cintron had the honor to receive this for North to say thank you for all the support from parents, former students, volunteers, students, the community and the North family. It was an amazing week in sharing culture, history, music, and so much more Hispanic tradition. Latin Rhythm Club, Spanish Club, Future Educators of America, and the World Language Team Clubs as well as students, parents, community volunteers, from Ms. Cintron classes decorated the main hallways with flags, posters and banners advertising World Language Week (September 15 to October 15, 2013). 2 Students from North Ft Myers High School Ida Baker High School Silent Dinner American Sign Language (ASL) students at Baker High School recently held a Silent Dinner at Cici s Pizza in Cape Coral. Students were required to turn off their voices and sign while socializing and playing games. Students from Ida Baker High School

3 Riverdale High School Students Speak for Students at American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages Conference It is a great time to be a Riverdale High School Raider! Juniors Carlos Mejia, Diego Jui and Mason Andrew were invited to speak at the 2013 American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Conference on November 23rd in Orlando. Students and educators from across the country were present at the conference and discussed ways to improve foreign language education for students. Led by their teacher, Señor Louis Lillard, Riverdale students were part of a student panel, which allowed their voices and ideas to be heard with regard to the need for increased student involvement to improve academic success. Congrats to these highachieving Raiders! The other two participating schools on the panel were: Pinecrest High School (Ft.
