1 GENERIC SITE RISK ASSESSMENT : SCHOOL / CHILDREN GROUP VISITS SITE : Wheal Martyn, Carthew, St Austell, PL26 8XG Grid Reference : SX Nearest Telephone : On site Access : On B3274, 2 miles north of St Austell Helicopter Landing Site : Car Park Nearest A&E : Treliske, Truro, TR1 3LJ Traffic and Vehicles Death / injury Coaches to park in separate, clearly marked parking area. Use footpaths around site. Ensure school/group staff supervise arrival and departure. Pedestrian access by schools/groups via Clay Trails off-road route. (High,Medium,) Medium All accidents, near misses and incidents must be recorded in line with normal procedures Child Abuse Death / abuse Education Officer has child Medium protection training, to be aware of all risks. Always have two adults present. There should always be two adults present and staff or volunteers should never be in a 'one-to-one' situation. Education Officer is CRB checked. Adequate supervision of all groups at all times. Mobile phone on hand. Photography / publication policy to be followed. Abduction Children Abduction / death Education Officer has child protection training, to be aware of all risks. Education Officer CRB checked. Adequate supervision of all group at all times by school/group staff. Mobile phone on hand. Have first aider, first aid kit and mobile phone on site. Group leader to ensure appropriate consent obtained from parents/carers and medication carried. Getting lost Children Death Ensure that all groups are adequately supervised and monitored at all times, and that the party has sufficient teachers and helpers - this should be ascertained prior to the visit. Mobile phone on hand. Medium Brief group leader to ensure appropriate clothing and footwear is worn, and that there are adequate supplies of food and drink. Report any incident. Report any incident on site Death / broken limbs / Site briefing by staff member prior High drowning / slips and falls to or on arrival. Brief group leader of outdoor nature of site and appropriate clothing and footwear. Ensure constant supervision of group by school/group staff. Have mobile phone and first aid kit on hand. Ensure that all workshop activities are supervised by both site and school staff and locked and secure after use. Other site users - dogs Dogs should be on leads on site, staff to remind public of this if necessary. Party leader to have medical consent for children and be aware of possible allergies - pass on details of severe allergies to site staff. Report any incident, accident, near miss Blasting in Wheal Martyn and Greensplat Pit Death / injury Imerys contact the site to inform Medium of blasts. Site staff follow Imerys procedures with regard to viewing. Inform groups of any known blasting which can be viewed.
