10 Mantra 3: Extend mobile capability Powerful Backend Integration drives Innovation Mobile Backend-as-a-Service (MBaaS) lets you extend mobile app capabilities far beyond the device. Backend services are provided as RESTful APIs that connect to legacy business systems or other enterprise cloud services. Developers can create their own backend APIs in Node.js and share them across multiple projects. A flexible service-based architecture makes these APIs available for self-discovery and re-use across multiple apps, greatly improving the economics of mobility projects. The APIs are centrally managed from the platform. Administrators can report on usage and performance, and use a variety of built-in tools to troubleshoot problems. 9 The MBaaS helps liberate data that has been locked away in pre-mobile legacy systems, allowing enterprises to improve user engagement while extracting further value from these often unwieldy, yet necesssary, backend systems.

11 Mantra 3: Extend mobile capability Out-of-the-Box Connectors to Enterprise Systems Out-of-the-box Node.js plugins are a set of best-in-class Node.js modules that have been tested and curated, ready for developers to cut and paste into their app projects. IT administrators can centrally provision and administer these services, configure the customer-specific parameters, and authorize usage at app and project level. MBaaS developers can modify these APIs, all of which are written in Node.js.

12 Mantra 4: Security is not a feature Security is All-encompassing Mobile security needs to extend to every aspect of data integration and handling: between backend systems and the cloud; within the cloud; between the cloud and the mobile device; and on device. How can you protect endpoint data from direct access by the mobile device? How can you be sure that users are authorized and managed? How can you protect access to enterprise systems? With its managed proxy layer, FeedHenry 3 provides the security between device and backend systems to protect direct access between the two. Security begins on the device with AES/RSA encryption APIs, followed by https from the app to the MBaaS and full endpoint security. The use of Node.js gives access to a wide range of crypto functionality, and enables developers to implement their own level of security for a given app. Access from the MBaaS to backend systems can be protected as your security experts see fit whether through the use of VPNs, strong firewalls, DMZs, approved data centers, approved data center locations or something else. Manage user security and authentication using FeedHenry credentials or your own LDAP/ ActiveDirectory system. OAuth integration is also available for third party services that provide this. SSO with vendor-specific offerings like Oracle Access Manager can also be implemented. An enterprise app store can give you greater control, but the key is to secure corporate information rather than restrict the use of apps. Maintain your focus on enabling users, not punishing them. FeedHenry 3 also provides seamless integration into Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platforms such as AirWatch and MobileIron. Developers simply have to tick a box and the app is integrated into the EMM, ready to be distributed. 11
