1 Runaway slave ads, Savannah Republican, Compiled by Emma Rountree, DH Summer Intern, 2014 In Savannah, January 8, 1819, a negro man who says his name is ROBIN, and that he belongs to John Gardner, of South Carolina near Augusta. He is about thirty-five years of age and five feet five inches high. He formerly belonged to Mr. Williamson, of this city. jan 9 (1/?/1819) In Savannah, January 13, 1819, a mulatto man who says his name is CHARLES and that he belongs to Mr. Goodwin, of Edgefield, South Carolina. He is about thirty years of age, and five feet eight inches high, stout and well formed for strength and activity. He says he was formerly the property of Benja. Glover. jan 14 (1/16/1819) Ranaway On the morning of the 14 th inst. A negro wench named DELIA, well known in Savannah. As it is believed she is harbored in town, I will give ten dollars reward, on proof of her being harbored, and five dollars for delivering her to me or to the gaoler of Chatham county, and all reasonable expenses paid. John Gribben jan 16 (1/16/1819) In Savannah, February 6, 1819, a negro man who says his name is SAM, and that he belongs to Allen Perkins, near Greenville court house, South Carolina. He is about thirty years of age, and 5 feet 7 inches high: says his present owner purchased him of Rice Ross, and that he ranaway before Christmas. feb 8 (2/8/1819) Fifteen dollars reward Will be paid to any person who will lodge in the jail of this city, my negro named CHARLES, who ranaway on the 8 th inst. He is a stout black fellow, near 6 feet high, and stutters. He had on when he went away a blue cloth coat and pantaloons. He has a wife at Mrs. Houston s at White Bluff, and it is possible he may be in that neighborhood. John Tanner feb 10 (2/10/1819) Twenty dollars reward Absconded on Wednesday morning, the subscribers servant SCIPIO. He is well known about town, having formerly belonged to Mr. James White. He is a mulatto, about 25 years old, thin visage, and melancholy cast of countenance, from 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches high. Scipio

2 was seen in Yamacraw yesterday, and is likely harbored by some persons about there: if proof of the fact can be established, independent of the above reward for his apprehension, a further sum of fifty dollars will be paid by John Speakman & Co. Frazer s wharf feb 11 (2/11/1819) Brought to gaol In Savannah, February 8, 1819, a negro man who says his name is CHARLES, and that he belongs to Simon Fraser, of Liberty county. He is about 55 years of age, and 5 feet inches high, squints with right eye, and has the marks country on his forehead. feb 16 (2/22/1819) Brought to gaol IN Savannah, February 14, 1819, a negro man who says his name is BEN, and that he belongs to Robert Fraser, of Augusta. He is about five feet nine inches high, and thirty years of age; has a scar on his forehead. feb 16 (2/22/1819) Brought to Goal, In Savannah, March 20 th 1819, a negro woman who says her name is HESTER and that she belongs to George Chancy, near Cousawhatchee South Carolina. She is about twenty years of age and four feet four inches high. She says she formerly belonged to Mary Myres. march 22 (3/?/1819) Twenty Dollars reward Two negro men belonging to the subscriber named JUPITER and MONDAY, formerly of the estate of John Hoskins, are runaway, and are probably in the neighborhood of the Union plantation in South Carolina. The one half above reward will be paid to any person who will apprehend and deliver either of these negroes to the goaler of Savannah, or to the undersigned at his plantation (Oak Grove) on Savannah river. Edward Harden march 23 (3/23/1819) Ten Dollars reward Will be given for the apprehension of a negro girl, named NEL, country born, about 17 or 18 years of age; stout, well made, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, belonging to Sarah Stone. 3 In Jefferson, Camden county, on the 5 th inst. a negro fellow who says his name in QUAMENA, and that he belongs to George Robinson, near the Indian nation. He is about five feet seven inches high, a yellow complexion, and has lost a piece off his left ear. Zachariah Motes, G. C. C. april 14 (4/14/1819) In Savannah, April 29, 1819, a negro man, who says his name is TOM, and that he belongs to James Frierson of Jones county. He is about twenty-one years of age and five feet three inches high. He was lately taken out of gaol and escaped on the way home. april 29 (4/30/1819) In Savannah, on the 21 st of April, 1819, a negro woman who says her name is SARAH, and that she belongs to Henrietta Wilson of Augusta. She is about twenty one years of age and five feet high. april 29 (4/30/1819) Absconded This morning from the Steam-Boat wharf, my negro fellow JORDAN. He is about 40 years old, and has large whiskers. He is easily known for one of his legs being much bent inwards and walks lame. He formerly worked with Mr. J. Knox, at the blacksmith trade, and is generally known in town. 20 Dollars will be paid on delivering him to me at the Merchants and Planters hotel. W. Craig may 11 (5/?/1819) In Savannah, on the 13 th of May, 1819 a negro man who says his name is HARRY and that he belongs to James Liner, of Charleston. He is about twenty-five years of age and five feet seven inches high. may 15 (5/?/1819) Ten Dollars reward Will be paid for the apprehension and confinement in gaol of my negro woman SILVEY, lately the property of Mrs. Arnold, of this city. Masters of vessels are cautioned against taking the said negro away, and all other person against harboring her, as the law will be rigidly put in force against such offenders. 4 Ranaway, man ISAAC, belonging to the estate of Thomas Coachman, he is well known in this city: a minute description of him is deemed unnecessary. Isaac is a low square mustezo, about 25 years of age, speaks correctly, large eyes. The above reward will be paid on conviction of his being harbored by white or persons of color: or five dollars on his being lodged in gaol. Masters of vessels are particularly cautioned from carrying off said negro. Henry McNish, administrator estate of T. Coachman may 20 (5/20/1819) Ten Dollars reward Ranaway from the subscriber on Saturday morning, a negro woman named DIANNA, generally known by the name of Dianna Wilson, about 40 years of age, stout built, with the marks of her country on her cheeks She being so well known about town that a further description of her is deemed unnecessary. The above reward will be paid on her being lodged in gaol, and an additional reward of ten dollars will be paid on proof of her being harbored by any person. Masters of vessels are cautioned against taking her out of the state, for it is more than probable she has a pass. Leslie Thompson. N. B. She lately belonged to the estate of captain Stewart, of St. Mary s. may 31 (5/31/1819) Fifteen Dollar s reward. Ranaway from the subscriber, about a week past, a negro man named JOE, about forty years old five feet ten inches high, speaks distinctly limps much when he walks, owing to his having received an injury on his right ancle he is well known in Savannah as a porter and drayman, having recently purchased him for Robert Pooler, esq. All persons are cautioned not to harbor JOE. I will give the above reward, on his being lodged in the County Jail. John H. Morel june 17 (6/9/1819) Thirty Dollars reward Will be given for apprehending and securing in Savannah goal, two fellows FRANK and LANCASTER, formerly belonging to Morris Miller, esq. Frank ranaway last September is about 5 feet 4 inches high, rather stout made he has been seen going and coming down the river in an Augusta flat. Lancaster ranaway last March is about 5 feet 6 inches high, rather slender made has been frequently seen in Savannah. Both are very artful, likely country born fellows, & each about twenty years of age. The above reward will be paid for both, or Twenty Dollars for Frank and Ten for Lancaster. B. Ward june 9 (6/9/1819) In Savannah, June 14 th, 1819, a negro lad who says his name is ABRAM and that he belongs to Joseph Eddins, near Beaufort, S. C. He is about 5 feet 6 inches high, and 21 years of age; has clogs on his legs. Also, PLENTY who is about 20 years of age, and 5 feet 4 inches high, yellow complexion.

5 june 17 (6/17/1819) Ranaway, My servant girl CUMBA, a bright mulatto; 20 years of age; short stature, stout made, likely small face, rather flat; sour downcast look; has very large breasts; hair short, and wears a handkerchief on her head. All masters of vessels are forbid taking her out of this state. Masters about to sail will be on their guard, as she may attempt to get off in one of the vessel laying wind-bound. A reward of $100 will be given if taken from on board a vessel, and $20 if taken on shore and lodged in jail. James Johnston. june 18 (6/18/1819) Ranaway, From the subscriber, on the 8 th instant, my negro fellow JOHN. Had on when he went away a suit of Homespun. John is about 5 feet 10 inches high, very black has a scar on his forehead, as well as can be recollected. His big toes are nearly one half longer than his other toes. Any person who will lodge said fellow in the goal of Savannah shall receive a reward of Ten Dollars. Philip Goodlred june 22 (6/22/1819) Ranaway, About the first of April 1818, from the plantation of George M. Gibbes, esq. Combahee, South Carolina, his negro fellow named JERRY. He is about five feet eight inches in height, of likely appearance; has a defect in his speech. He escaped from the gaol in Savannah in the summer of 1818, and has not since been heard of. Is supposed to be in the state of Georgia or in the upper part of South Carolina, where he was purchased, having formerly been the property of judge Johnston. A reward of Forty Dollars and all reasonable expenses will be given to any person who will deliver him at Mr. George M. Gibbes plantation, on Combahee; or at the gaol in Charleston. june 28 (6/28/1819) One Hundred Dollars Reward For apprehending and securing RICHMOND and JACK, who ran away from the subscriber s near Newberry court house, South Carolina, on the 18 th of May last. RICHMOND, a tall black man, about 30 years of age, a black smith by trade. JACK, a low well set fellow, about twenty five years of age, rather of a tawny complection; they will no doubt make for Baltimore from which place they were lately bought. John and Austin Woolrolk Augusta (Geo.) June 10 th july 1 (7/3/1819) Brought to gaol, In Savannah, May 20, 1819, a negro man named JACOB, belonging to Dr. Jenkins of Louisville: he is about 20 years of age, and 5 feet 6 inches high. He was apprehended about 46 miles from Savannah upon a horse said to be stolen. Lame in the right leg.

6 may 1 (7/3/1819) One Hundred Dollars reward. Now in Savannah or its vicinity, a negro man by the name of SIMON, a carpenter by trade Simon is endeavoring to pass as a free man, and has recently been seen working his trade in this place. All persons are cautioned against harboring or employing him in any manner whatever: and if detected in doing so will be dealt with as rigidly as the law will allow. J. S. Thomas may 12 (7/6/1819), In Savannah, July 3, 1819, a negro named JOE says he belongs to Domingo Decosta, of Amelia island, and that he was stolen from his master, in East Florida. He is about thirty-five years of age, and five feet seven inches high. Also HOSEMARIEN, who says he belongs to George Clark, of St. Marys. He is about sixteen years of age, and five feet four inches high. july 6 (7/6/1819), In Savannah, June 21, 1819, a negro man whose name is JOHN, says he belongs to Philip Goodbread, of Camden county: he is about 30 years of age and 5 feet 6 inches high. july 13 (7/13/1819) Ten Dollars reward. Runaway from the subscriber a negro fellow by the name of Jim who is expected to make his way for Savannah, (the property of Edward Delegal.) Any person detecting the said negro and placing him where I may receive him shall receive the reward of twenty dollars if out of the county of Mc Intosh; if detected in the county, the above reward shall be paid on the delivery of the said negro. Edward Delegal july 15 (7/15/1819) In Savannah, July 14, 1819, a negro man who says his name is WILL, and that he belongs to Benjamin Chairs, near Doublin, Laurens county. He is about twenty years of age five feet six inches high. He formerly belonged to Verdier, of South Carolina. july 15 (7/15/1819) Forty dollars reward. Ranaway about the 8 th day of November last a negro fellow named FRIDAY, about 37 years old, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high: he has a scar on one of his cheeks, a stout body and bow-leged, large beard and whiskers, a smart spoken fellow: formerly the property of Mrs. Martha Johnston, of White-bluff: he has a wife at Turnbull s plantation, near Savannah; he has been seen several

7 times a fishing about White-bluff, and passing along the road from their [sic] towards Savannah. The above reward will be paid to any person that will lodge the said Friday in Savannah gaol. Pearson Hardee South Carolina, July 16 (7/17/1819) Twenty Dollars Reward Ranaway from the subscriber, some time last month, a negro woman named MARY; formerly belonging to Mr. Lefebvre, of Savannah, and was bought at Sheriff s sales. The said negro woman Mary, is about 5 feet high, stout made, and speaks French. Ten dollars will be paid for lodging her in Savannah jail, or twenty dollars if proven to harbored by any person. Christian Eigelberger Hilton Head, june 22d 1819 (7/20/1819), In Jefferson, Camden county, on the 3 rd inst. a negro man named JIM; he says he belongs to major Tipings, of Tatnall county; he is about 5 feet 8 or 10 inches high, light complected, a country born, upwards of 30 years of age, and has large whiskers. Isaac Bailey, S. C. C. Jefferson, Camden county, July 17 (7/22/1819) Brought to Goal, In Jacksonborough, Georgia, 6 th July 1819, two negro men who say their names are Ansimanah and Lunon, and that they belong to Richard Bland, near May river, South-Carolina, twenty or twenty five miles from Coosawhatchie. Ansimanah, African born, about sixty or sixty-five years old, five feet eight or nine inches high, slender made their visage of dark complexion, and no teeth. Lunon, a county born, about forty or forty-five years old, five feet seven or eight inches high, stout made of dark complexion, and say they have been runaway about a fortnight. Solomon Kemp, gaoler Scriven county, July 10 (7/29/1819), In Savannah, July 28, 1819, a negro man who says his name is SAM, and that he belongs to the estate of Sherwood Wommack, of Hancock county, Georgia; he is about 30 years of age and 5 feet 6 inches high. july 31 (8/3/1819), In Savannah, July 19, 1819, a negro man who says his name is SIMON, and that he belongs to William Burquin, South Carolina. He is about 27 years of age and 5 feet 6 inches high, has a scar on his right leg near the ancle. july 31 (8/4/1819) Fifty dollars Reward.

8 Ranaway from the subscriber on the 2d inst a negro fellow, about thirty five years of age, named LEWIS, of a quite black complexion, well made, has rather a green look, with a small split in his right ear, occasioned by a nail, and about five feet ten inches in height, well sett, &c. The above reward will be given to any person for apprehending him and securing him in goal, so that I may get him again, and all reasonable expences will be paid. All masters of vessels, and other persons, are forbidden, under penalty of the law, harboring and rendering him any aid. James Dell Bell s River, East Florida 7 th August, 1819 (8/4/1819) Twenty-Five Dollars reward. Ranaway from the subscriber, on New River, South-Carolina, my man RUSSEL, about 26 years of age, of yellow complexion, thick made, and of low stature, of a pleasing countenance when spoken to; has a mother and brother in Savannah, and is supposed to be lurking about their residence. The above reward will be paid for lodging him in Savannah gaol, or to Scott & Fahm, factors. All persons are forbid harboring said fellow as the law will be strictly enforced. John Cooper aug 17 (8/17/1819) Ten Dollars reward. Absented on the 14 th May last, my negro wench FLORA, about 5 feet 3 inches high, of a dark complection, has a very sulky countenance, and wears a handkerchief round her jaws. She is supposed to be about White Bluff. The above reward will be paid to any person who may apprehend the said wench and deliver her to the subscriber. T. R. Williams for A. Telfair sept 4 (9/4/1819), In Savannah, September 8, 1819 a negro lad who says his name is PLENEY, and that he belongs to Mr. Hawkins in the northern part of South Carolina. He is about twenty years of age and five feet five inches high, slender made and thin faced. He formerly belonged to Dr. Worley, near Savannah river, and by him sold to Simon Moses of Charleston. sept 9 (9/14/1819) Ten Dollars Reward, Will be paid to any person producing evidence against any person harboring a mulatto woman named CHARLOTTE, who ranaway on the 6 th inst; or five dollars will be paid for her being lodged in the gaol of Savannah, or brought to the subscriber, three miles from town, with all reasonable expenses paid. There is no need of a particular discription, as she is well known in the city of Savannah, which place she was seen on Sunday last. All masters of vessels are cautioned against carrying her off as they will be dealt with according to law. R. Rawell sept 16 (9/21/1819)

The said wench is well known in the city. John D. Cole sept 30 (9/30/1819), In Savannah, Sept. 29, 1819, a negro man who says his name is TENNENT, and that he belongs to Elisha Mallard, on Fair-Hole, South-Carolina. He is about 20 years of age, and 5 feet 2 inches high; has a scar on his throat. oct 2 (10/5/1819) Brought to Goal, In Savannah, Sept 19, 1819, a negro man who says his name is BURREL, and that he belongs to Stephen Pierce, of Hancock county he is about 25 years of age, and 5 feet three inches high; has a scar of a burn on his left arm. oct 2 (10/5/1819), In Savannah, Sept , a negro man who says his name is NED, and that he belongs to Dr. Tunno, of Charleston he is about 30 years of age, and 5 feet 6 inches high. oct 2 (10/5/1819) One Hundred Dollars Reward Will be given for arresting of my negro JACOB, if proved to be harbored by a white man; fifty dollars if harbored by a coloured person, and twenty dollars, on his being delivered to T. Bourke oct 5 (10/7/1819) Brought to Goal, In Savannah, October 2, 1819, a negro man who says his name is CHARLES, and that he belongs to James Pouder, of Scriven county. He is about twenty-five years of age and five feet five inches high; says he ranaway about one month ago. oct 12 (10/12/1819) Twenty Dollars Reward. RANAWAY from the subscriber, residing in Liberty county, his wench named CELIA. She is about forty years of age, about five feet, four or five inches high; thin visage and dark

10 complexion. She has a mother belonging to Robert Wayne, Esq. named Clarinda, and a sister at Ramshart s. The above reward of Twenty Dollars will be paid on her being lodged in jail, and all reasonable expenses. Thomas M. Stone nov 10 (11/?/1819), In Savannah, November 4, 1819, a negro man, who says his name is Wallace, and that he belongs to Mrs. Ann Gibbons, of Laurens county. He is about five feet ten inches high; has on a red flannel shirt and blue trousers. nov 5 (11/?/1819), In Savannah, Nov. 17, 1819, a MULATTO BOY, who says his name is Edward, and that he belongs to William Barnwell, of Beaufort, S. C. He is about fifteen years of age, and five feet one inch high. He has on a blue jacket and trousers, black silk vest, and cotton shirt. nov 17 (11/15/1819), In Savannah, a negro woman who says her name is CHARLOTTE, and that she belongs to Cornelia Johnson, a minor, for whom Mr. Wall is guardian; she is about twenty-four years of age and five feet three inches high. nov 23 (11/23/1819), In Savannah, November 25, 1819, a mulatto man who says his name is Charles and that he belongs to Gaber Fairchild, of Burke county. He is about thirty-five years of age and five feet five inches high. His hair is grey. dec 10 (12/10/1819), In Savannah, December 9, 1819, a negro man who says his name is Joe and that he belongs to Michael Young of Bulloch county. He is about 30 years of age and 5 feet 7 inches high. He has the marks of his native country on his face. dec 10 (12/10/1819) Fifteen Dollars Reward, For the apprehension of the subscriber s negro boy named ARTHUR, who absented himself about ten days since. He is well known in this place. He has one straight finger, and one fore tooth lost. The above reward will be paid for delivering him to the subscriber, or lodging him in jail.

She is about 25 years of age and 5 feet 1 inch high. She says she ranaway about the 1 st of December. dec 31 (1/?/1820), In Savannah, December 10, 1819, a negro woman of yellow complexion, who says her name is MARY, and that she belongs to Robert Coon of Augusta. She is about 18 years of age and 5 feet 6 inches high; slender made and says she ranaway about three months ago. dec 31 (1/?/1820) In Savannah, January 18, 1820, a negro man who says his name is Daniel and that he belongs to John Garnet, near Columbia Court House. He is about thirty-three years of age, and five feet nine inches high: has in possession a large bay horse, with but one eye. jan 19 (1/?/1820) Brought to Goal, In Savannah, January 22d, 1820, a Negro Man, who says his name is JOE, and that he belongs to Nathan Barnet, of Clarke county. He is about thirty-five years of age, and five feet ten inches high and formerly belonged to David Hillhouse. jan 25 (1/27/1820) Brought to Goal, In Savannah, Jan 23, 1820, a negro man who says his name is JOE, and that he belongs to Simon Frasier, of Liberty county. He is about thirty-five years of age, and five feet four inches high. Has his country marks on his face. jan 24 (1/27/1820), In Savannah, February 7, 1820, a negro man who says his name is CAROLINA, and that he belongs to Hamilton Tripp of Beaufort, South-Carolina. He is about 5 feet 6 inches high and 26 years of age. feb 9 (2/9/1820)

12 Ranaway, From the subscriber, about five o clock on Sunday afternoon, the 30 th instant, from on board the schooner Kitty, James Watson master, a Negro Man named JACK, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and a little deaf. He belongs to Gen. Huger. feb 1 (2/10/1820) Fifteen Dollars Reward. The subscriber s carpenter fellow JOHN absconded from his plantation in St. Luke s parish, South Carolina, on the 27 th of January last. John is a very light colored mulatto of thin visage, 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, of a stout frame, and was a few years ago a waiter and carriage driver. He will no doubt endeavor to pass as a free man and perhaps as a white man. The above reward with all reasonable expenses will be paid on delivery of the said fellow to the subscriber, or thirty dollars for lodging him in any gaol in the United States. Thomas Heyword St. Luke s Parish, S. C. feb 24 (2/?/1820), In Savannah, February 21, 1820, a negro man who says his name is BOBB and that he belongs to Paul McKee of Beaufort, (S. C. He is about 25 years of age and five feet eight inches high. He has an impediment in his speech. feb 23 (3/2/1820) Five Dollars reward. Ranaway from the subscriber on the 22d February, a negro girl named PALIL, about 16 years old; not long since purchased from Mrs. Stark of Savannah. Her mother belongs to Mr. Stark. She has several scars on her neck from soars, and is small for her age. All persons are hereby cautioned from harboring or employing her, as the law in that case will be strictly enforced. The above reward will be paid to any person that will deliver her at my house five miles from Savannah on the Augusta Road, or lodge her in jail. Wm. Kirkpatrick. march 6 (3/?/1820) Fifty Dollars Reward, For proof to conviction of any white person harboring my Mulatto woman NANCY who ranaway on the 2d of this month, or 10 dollars if delivered to me without proof of her being harbored by any body. Nancy is two [sic] well known to need a description as she has been selling Milk for 8 or 9 months past, and is now lurking about the city. He formerly belonged to major Deveaux of this city. march 21 (3/25/1820) Brought to Goal In Savannah March 31 st 1820, a Negro man who says his name is James, and that he belongs to James Thomas, near Lexington (Ken.) He is about twenty-three years of age, five feet three inches high, says he formerly belonged to Mr. Holmes of S Carolina. april 3 (4/?/1820) In Savannah, March 25, 1820, a negro man who says his name is TOM and that he belongs to Lewis Burnes of Burke county. He is about forty years of age and five feet three inches high. He formerly belonged to Joan Waters of this city. march 27 (4/5/1820) Fifty dollars Reward. Run away from the subscriber, 22d January, a NEGRO MAN named Wilkes well known about Savannah as a drayman, and raised there; formerly the property of Maj. Bourke. All patroons of boats, and vessels are cautioned against carrying him off, or employing him, as the law will be rigidly enforced against them. John Roberts, Emanuel county, Ga. april 8 (4/8/1820) Ranaway From the subscriber, at Johnson s Bridge, Canoochee river, Tatnall county, on the night of the 7 th inst. a NEGRO MAN named Peter, about 28 years of age, stout built, 5 feet 3 ½ inches high, country born, and very sensible. He has a large bushy beard, and when walking his joints crack very much he has a large scar below his hips, done with a hatchet. Whoever will apprehend said negro and bring him to me, or have him confined in any jail, so that I get him safe, shall be handsomely rewarded for their trouble. Ranaway, on the evening of Friday last, my Negro Girl, SARAH or SALLY, of a Samboe color, low stature, flat nose, sullen looks, formerly the property of Thomas Morgan, of Effingham county having some children in that place, it is supposed she may have gone there. Ranaway from the subscriber in Columbia county, on the 20t7th August last, a Negro Man named SCIPIO, alias BILLY DARBY, about 40 years of age, a stout likely black fellow, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, well known in and about Augusta: has followed the river a number of years back. It is probable he will attempt to go to Savannah in some of the Augusta boats. Boat owners are cautioned against carrying off said fellow. For ADAM, he is about 20 years old of a yellowish complexion, about five feet eight inches high country born, he had a dark coat and blue trouses on when he went away. Gaston of Savannah Georgia. He is African born of dark complexion, suppose 40 or 45 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, has several under fore teeth out, and conspicuous scars on his left ear, which he says was occasioned by the blow of a stick, rather stutters. She is notoriously known both here and in Augusta, and being artful can no doubt procure a false pass. I have heard that she was treading on the river between this and Augusta. Twenty Dollars reward will be paid to any person who will deliver her to Mr. T. S. Oliver South Carolina, or lodge her in the Savannah or Augusta Jails. ABSCONDED last May twelve month, from the subscriber s service in Savannah, a light colored Negro Man named Cupid, 5 feet 4 in. high, 37 years of age, walks fast with short steps, has rather a down and artful look, and speaks quickly. He understands driving a carriage, and has travelled through the upper parts of this state and is well acquainted in Augusta, where it is said he is employed in the flats plying between that place and Savannah.
