This is a 3 week module. The student must develop a broad view on the role of an OT in a multiprofessional team, according to aspects of environment, living situation, safety, end of life care, for elderly persons with dementia problems. Guidelines provided by PXL occupational therapy in a booklet, including description of the expected competences, the assignments, deadlines and grade system. Students have to search on databases and on the internet. They have to proof that de sourses are scientific and up to date. Problem based learning method: lectures, tutorial groups, project work, interview with target groups and self-study

2 Basic insights of occupational therapy concerning specific care for elderly. The student is able, due to the projectwork to reach the learning outcomes by demonstrating a presentation about the specific subject. The student can build up a projectplan, starting from an actual and relevant problemsituation in practice. The student can discuss and interact with groupmembers and teacher about the project. He can make a report of the discussions. He can communicate in a efficient way with all parties in the process. The student has a meaningful input, and manifests itself as a starter occupational therapist in the team. The student can develop a product of the project in a presentation according to the project goals. The student can widen his view on occupational therapy, based on international references, and compare with the project work he does. The student can reflect on the ethical issues of his project, and can analyse his own occupation within this view. The student can, by his project, realize an innovative contribution for OT in this specific project. 3 Integration OT Competences: Outplacement 2 ECTS credits: 12 Course Unit Code: 20ERA Coordinator: Hilde Gielkens/Johan Lemmens In this educational part the student learns to develop cliënt-orientated activities: planning, organizing, executing and evaluating the professional-oriented occupational therapy acting. The professional- and the derived educational profile are the steering factors. The aim is that the student will be able to act professionally independent at the end of the period, within a specific professional context. At the end of his clinical placement the student is able to situate himself and create a profile for himself as an occupational therapist within the health care and public welfare of the country in which he s staying. The student is brought into contact with a real therapeutic situation. During this clinical process the student is accompanied by an occupational therapist during the apprenticeship and by a practical training supervisor. A lot of attention is paid to integration of the practice and the theory. This happens by means of the systematic draw up of a training report. The link between own training experiences and the given theory is deepened in the school, together with fellow students, in small education groups accompanied by a tutor (teacher/occupational therapist). Attention is given mainly to ethical and deontological problems which can occur. The student learns to analyse and formulate these problems thoroughly. Out of a critical analysis he also learns to formulate solutions. Guidelines provided by PXL occupational therapy in a booklet, including description of the expected competences, the assignments, deadlines and grade system. Recommended study materials Depending on the goals for the clientgroup, the student has to gather information out of his own theoretical knowledge basis and the courses he/she already passed. The professional- and the derived educational profile are the steering factors. The aim is that the student will be able to act professionally independent at the end of the period, within a specific professional context. At the end of his clinical placement the student is able to situate himself and create a profile for himself as an occupational therapist within the health care and public welfare of the country in which he s staying. Permanent evaluation by an occupational therapist during the apprenticeship, both at school by a teacher and by a training supervisor at the placement. The student is also judged on the basis of a personal apprenticeship book. This book needs to be worked out according to the specific guidelines of the education. Foreign students can work out this apprenticeship book in English or French. The judgement happens on the basis of several conversations with the apprenticeship supervisors in the presence of the student. The educational profile - translated into competences - framework is used with this judgement. This list of competences was drawn up by the professional association and the Belgian training institutes for occupational therapy. A student needs to achieve minimal a C grade.

5 Bachelor Project ECTS credits: 10 Course Unit Code: 20ERA9130 Coordinator: Annemie Spooren/Christine Smeets This bachelor project is the result of process: a personal literature review to explore the theory and practice of occupational therapy ending in a written report/paper. This process to create a scientific paper allows students to acquire specific competencies. Knowledge, skills and attitudes, acquired in the course of the past training, come together in function of the used theme. To help the student in this process important learning contents is offered at regular intervals together with intensive support by teachers. The bachelor project is normally related to the project-outplacement. During the outplacement, the student has to proof that he is able to work on a project in a professional and independent way. Bachelor project thema s are focused on the autonomy of the client in living, working, learning and leisure, related to the various target groups within the framework of the biopsychosocial model and occupational therapy practice models. The presentation of the project thema s for happens at the end of the second semester (April-june 2014). From these thema s, the student chooses a topic. The student may specify his or her preference. As far as possible, the teacherteam will taken into account the choice of the student. The student can search for professional and scientific information on the internet and on databases provided by PXL. -The student can translate daily problems of OT practice to a research question. -The student can translate new insights and recent scientific information related to occupational therapy to the practice of daily work, by the use of methods such as interviews, observations and assessments. -The student can communicate orally and in writing report to the team: fellow students, promoter and external partner.

7 Introduction in Working with Disabled People ECTS credits: 3 Course Unit Code: 20ERA Coordinator: Els Peters/Jan Valy : This module is concentrated in one intensive week in march, but has a prepatory meeting of one day in December. Students of the second BA year of OT education are, together with students physiotherapy and nurses, responsible for a residential week with disabled people. Students learn to work in teams of different professions. This week has to be a week of vacation for the clients. The disabled people must be able to participate in sports activities and creative activities, and have to be guided in the ADL by the student teams. On the introduction day students get lots of information of this week, they also get the information of their preparative work. They are also able to participate activities together with the clients on this day. This educational part aims at: - learn to live and work with cliënts with disabilities - do some self study with the objective to learn to know more about specific pathologies - to prepare activities for disabled cliënts - guide a cliënt group through the activities - have a professional contact with the cliënts - for one week live together with clients - work together in a team of different professions All theory of previous modules in the curriculum, and results of own research of the specific subjects Teaching organization Problem Based Learning method: lecture, project work and independent study : Already achieved credits: all the credits of the First year of the OT education, or achieved credits of a comparable module. The student will be able to work in an interdisciplinary team of professional students. The student coaches and takes the lead in a structured team. The student analyses his own process and occupation and he adapts this depending on feedback of his coaches or other students. The student can develop a product of the project(a folder, an instrument, ) according to the project goals. The student coordinates autonomically the meetings with other projectworkers to realize the outcomes of the project. The student can widen his view on occupational therapy, based on international references, and compare with the project work he does. 12 Elective course OT: International course on the use of Creative Arts within Occupational Therapy (Sept) ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG1130 Coordinator: Erwin Vanroye/Mimi Market Period: sem 1 A preparative module contains a written vision on OT and creativity and a discussion about the subject in a meeting at home with fellow students who will participate in the course. This preparative module is coordinated by PXL The following part is an IP, organised by Artevelde University College, with PXL as one of 9 international partners. The objectives of the Intensive Programme at location are: In the first part of the course students are taken through the three stages of the creative process (observation, inner process and expression). This part focus on the exploration of the different forms of expression and their elements in workshops, stimulation of therapeutic attitudes: creativity, creative thinking, problem solving, inventiveness, originality, verbal and non verbal communication, assertiveness, enlarging personal limits... Discussions and exchanging experiences take an important part of this programme. The programme uses workshops, self experience exercises, creative play, improvisation and discussion. This closing part closes is a project work using the different media. In the second part students explore and reflect on the application of the different forms of expression in Occupational Therapy with different clients. The programme uses workshops and discussions with OT s from the clinical practice. Students are expected to search by themselves in all kinds of databases the relevant information about OT and the use of creativity within OT Recommended study materials The preparative module is guided by a PXL teacher in Hasselt, then the IP takes place in Dworp, near to Brussels The IP consists of lectures, workshops, self experience exercises, creative play, improvisation and discussion. The OT student has become at least 60 ECTS in an OT education The student will be able to work in a team of OT students. 13 Elective course OT : Intensive program on Living Ageing (March) ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG Coordinator: Erwin Vanroye/ Mimi Market A preparative module contains a written vision on OT and guidance of people in end of life situation. Also a discussion about the subject in a meeting at home with fellow students who will participate in the course. This preparative module is coordinated by PXL The following part is an IP, organised by Artevelde University College, with PXL as one of the international partners. The focus is guiding people in situations of chronic illness in a multiprofessional team. There take place several studyvisits, and lots of reflections. It broadens up students professional perspective and it will be an eyeopener in the work with other cultures. 14 Elective course OT: International Course IP "IC4life" (Jan) ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG Coordinator: Erwin Vanroye/Mimi Market The multi-professional course "Innovation and Creativity for Life" is a programme aiming at developing multi-professional and intercultural competences in which students are able to invent, create idea's/products/prototypes or assistive technology to improve quality of life in living, learning, working and playing for individuals, communities, populations, intercultural society. -This intensive programme will focus on both theoretical and practical competences in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship towards future solutions related to human occupation & participation in daily life. Student guide/manual IC4life Materials to be searched by student as part of the assignment The preparative module is a (group)assignment via distance learning according to the guidelines in the student manual, then the IP takes place in Neerpelt/Hasselt, Belgium The IP consists of lectures, workshops, group work, study visits, discussions. and presentations The OT student or student engeneering, media/product-design, IT, business, (healthcare) technology has obtained at least 120 ECTS in a HEI The students will learn different creative methods turning ideas into something with an innovative value. They will also learn how to realize their ideas in an entrepreneurial environment, with a focus on health and wellbeing. After an introduction to creativity and innovation theory and practice, the students will work in multiprofessional and multicultural groups on different cases related to the everyday life. Each case demands innovative suggested solutions. Their solutions will be presented at the end of the course. All students which have completed the assessment successfully are awarded 5 ECTS-credits (2 for the preparatory module and 3 for the intensive programme). The criteria will be published in the course manual/student guide prior to the start of the course. The incoming student can write the assignment in English.

17 Elective course OT: Alternative Clinical Placement (Sem 1 or Sem 2) ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG1180 Coordinator: Erwin Vanroye/Mimi Market Period: sem 1 or sem 2 The student follows an exploratory clinical placement, proposed by the student. The purpose of this internship is to proof the value of occupational therapy in a new work domain. It must be a exploratory field internship. This means that an internship, or by its nature or its way of working, is different from the regular internship offered by PXL occupational therapy. The student will therefore have the opportunity to explore/analyse the possible tasks of an occupational therapist in the specific situation. The main task of the student is to focus on observation and analysis through participation. Student guide Alternative Clinical placement The student has to send in a report weekly, and gets feedback on his own development The OT student has obtained at least 120 ECTS in a healthcare education The student can actively participate in an institution / company / organization /... where no occupational therapists are employed. The student can write a SWOT analysis on the possible added value of occupational therapy at the chosen place for internship. The student can write a paper, defending the possible tasks of the occupational therapist in the particular context of internship. Students can underpin the SWOT analysis and prove the quality of this with references. The incoming student can write this assignment in English.

18 Elective course OT: Alternative projects (Sem 1 or Sem 2) ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG1190 Coordinator: Erwin Vanroye/Mimi Market Period: sem 1 or sem 2 In this course, all kinds of projects can be organized. Students can bring in new projects. This projects have to be connected to OT in one or another way. Students have to motivate why their project is interesting for an occupational therapist. Depending on the project This is a course with a lot of responsibility of the student. Meetings to guide the student are organized previous to the project, during, and after the project. There is a lot of self study to do by the student. This is all PBL based. The OT student has obtained at least 120 ECTS in a healthcare education The student will be able to work in a team (of healthcare/other students). He/she can explain and make use of a motivated vision on OT within a team (of students) The student can reflect on his personal development within this course, taking in account the interdisciplinary work and the multicultural interactions. 19 Elective course OT: International interdisciplinary course on Healthcare issues 5 ECTS credits: 5 Course Unit Code: 23ERG1200 Coordinator: Aim of this IP is to raise awareness of the contribution that older people make to society and to take action with the aim of creating better opportunities for active ageing and strengthening solidarity between generations. The common denominators of the Intensive Program on Active Ageing are deduced from the European year 2012, to promote active ageing: participation, employment and independent living by empowerment.
