7 Department of Public Health The Department of Public Health is a creation of the state OCGA : The Department of Public Health is created and established to safeguard and promote the health of the people of this state and is empowered to employ all legal means appropriate to that end.

9 PHTC Programs Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) National Public Health Training Center (PHTC) Program Length of funding 5 years Purpose Strengthen national PH system/infrastructure Improve competence in technical, scientific, managerial, and leadership skills of the current and future public health workforce

11 PHTC Program Goals Training: Centers must train the public health workforce Collaborative Projects: Centers must involve faculty and students in collaborative projects Internships: Centers must establish or strengthen public health field placements

24 Influenza Demonstrates the proper diagnosis of influenza in various populations as well as how to improve communication between patients and caregivers.
