2 Technology Overview Configuring NetVanta 7100 and SpectraLink Wirless Phones Technology Overview The NetVanta 7100 is an office-in-a-box solution that provides voice and data solutions in a single platform. It is designed to provide data network access and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to business locations of up to 100 users. The ADTRAN NetVanta 7100 IP Communication Platform includes a router, 24-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch, firewall, virtual private network (VPN) gateway, wireless local area network (LAN) controller, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) gateway, and an IP PBX phone system with integrated voic and multilevel auto attendant. The NetVanta 7100 includes the following interfaces: 24 10/100 Ethernet ports (802.3af PoE) 2 10/100/1000Base-T ports 2 SFP slots 2 module slots for additional voice or WAN interfaces 2 analog station (foreign exchange service (FXS)) ports 2 analog trunk (foreign exchange office (FXO)) ports 1 WAN Ethernet interface 1 door relay 1 music on hold input (3.5 mm line in) 1 paging system output (3.5 mm line out) The Polycom SpectraLink 8020 and 8030 wireless telephones are designed for users across a wide range of industries. With a lightweight, yet rugged design and extensive feature support, the SpectraLink 8020 and 8030 wireless telephones meet the needs of general office and management staff while also providing a reliable option for front-line personnel in high-use environments. The Polycom SpectraLink 8030 wireless telephone extends the capabilities of the 8020 wireless telephone by adding Polycom s unique push-to-talk (PTT) feature along with improvements to the phone s industrial design and handset ergonomics. The SpectraLink 8030 PPT capability allows instantaneous communication between employees independent of the PBX system, eliminating the need for two-way radios. The larger earpiece of the SpectraLink 8030 wireless telephone seals out background noise and provides comfort for frequent or lengthy calls. The SpectraLink 8030 wireless telephone is uniquely suited for distributed work teams that require frequent communication. The SpectraLink 8020 wireless telephone includes the following features: a/b/g radio Slim, lightweight design with large, graphics-capable display Lithium-ion battery packs for up to eight hours talk time and 160 hours standby IP 53 standard, for dust protection and resistance to spraying water MIL STD 810F for shock resistance Office-quality speakerphone for handsfree operation Navigation and soft keys for simple access to frequently used operations Backlit keypad for low-light usage 2 Copyright 2010 ADTRAN, Inc. 6AOSCG A
3 Configuring NetVanta 7100 and SpectraLink Wirless Phones Network Topology Voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN) quality of service (QoS) options including SpectraLink Voice Priority (SVP) and WiFi Standard Enterprise-grade, voice-optimized security The SpectraLink 8030 includes all of the SpectraLink 8020 features, as well as the following: PTT functionality for workgroup communication Enlarged earpiece for operation in noisy environments Rubberized grips for improved ergonomics and durability Emergency speed dial Network Topology This section details the network topology for networks that employ the NetVanta 7100 and the SpectraLink wireless telephones. In addition, these networks use a wireless access point (WAP), an ADTRAN IP 706 phone, and a Polycom SpectraLink 8000 SVP server. The typical network topology is outlined in Figure 1. LAN NetVanta 7100 SVP Server ADTRAN IP 706 Phone NetVanta 150 WAP SpectraLink Wireless Telephones Figure 1. NetVanta 7100 and SpectraLink WiFi Network Configuration Overview To properly configure the NetVanta 7100 and the SpectraLink wireless telephones for interoperability, you will need to complete the following steps: 1. Configure the NetVanta 7100 with a SIP trunk, voice users, and WiFi configuration. You will need to create SIP identities for the SpectraLink wireless telephones to associate them with public switched telephone numbers (PSTN) provided by the SIP trunk, and also configure the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server to provide the SpectraLink wireless telephones with the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server address and the SVP server address. 2. Configure the NetVanta 150 WAP with an 802.1q trunk connection to the NetVanta The SpectraLink wireless telephones are able to associate with both the a and b/g radios on the NetVanta AOSCG A Copyright 2010 ADTRAN, Inc. 3
4 Hardware and Software Requirements and LimitationsConfiguring NetVanta 7100 and SpectraLink Wirless 3. Map the SpectraLink wireless telephones service set identifier (SSID) to virtual LAN (VLAN) 2 on the NetVanta 7100 to keep the SpectraLink wireless telephones on the voice VLAN with the other IP phones. 4. Configure the Polycom SpectraLink 8000 SVP server. 5. Configure the SpectraLink wireless telephones with DHCP and connect them to VLAN 2. Hardware and Software Requirements and Limitations This interoperability configuration does not include wireless configuration, nor does it include wireless QoS configurations. This configuration does not exercise anything beyond basic association of the SpectraLink wireless telephones with the NetVanta 150 WAPs. In addition, when using the NetVanta 150 WAP to connect the SpectraLink wireless telephones to the NetVanta 7100, the Polycom SpectraLink 8000 SVP server is required. The Polycom SpectraLink SVP server provides the wireless QoS services for the wireless telephones on the wireless network. When using the NetVanta 7100 with SpectraLink wireless telephones, you must use AOS firmware A2.07 or later. The NetVanta 7100, NetVanta 150 WAP, and ADTRAN IP 706 phone all have their own hardware and software requirements and limitations. For more information about each of these platforms, refer to the Product Feature Matrix available online at (article number 2272). This guide assumes that you are familiar with the basic configurations of the NetVanta For more information about the NetVanta 7100, as well as the ADTRAN IP 706 phone, and NetVanta 150 WAP, refer to Additional Resources on page 24. For more information about the configuration and use of SpectraLink wireless telephones and servers, refer to the Polycom website. Configuring the NetVanta 7100 For the NetVanta 7100 to function with the SpectraLink wireless telephones, you must configure the following on the NetVanta 7100: 1. Configure a SIP trunk on the NetVanta Add the voice users to the NetVanta Configure the wireless parameters of the NetVanta Create the SIP identities for each of the phones attached to the NetVanta 7100 (the ADTRAN IP phone, as well as the SpectraLink wireless telephones). These SIP identities associate the phones with the PSTN numbers provided by the SIP trunk. 5. Configure the DHCP server pool for VLAN 2 to provide the TFTP server address for the SpectraLink wireless telephones to download configuration files. In addition, configure option 151 with the IP address of the SVP server. For additional information about how to configure these items, refer to Additional Resources on page Copyright 2010 ADTRAN, Inc. 6AOSCG A
