10 Ground Systems & Observatory Integration Spacecraft bus and observatory I&T support UCB designed a compact, transportable MOC clone. Network architecture, workspaces, software tools and configuration management are identical to the MOC. Portable system supports I&T from start to finish. Direct operations team participation as console operators is the baseline for flight operations training. Taking the integrated MOC to the observatory to support I&T... 11 Team Communications via TeamSpeak Example of an efficient, low-cost solution Investigated various VoIP solutions for upgrade of distributed voice communications within the operations center and with external mission support elements. Requirements included: Local server in controlled network environment 100+ simultaneous users Password protection and voice encryption Multiple talk and listen channels with conferencing Cross-platform compatibility (Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, ios) Selected TeamSpeak 3 ( Free license for TeamSpeak 3 server for non-profit use. 13 Multi-mission Support Challenges Challenges arising during multi-mission life cycles Ground systems hardware and software obsolescence requires gradual replacement and upgrades without disturbing operational readiness. Systems modernization needs to keep an eye on future requirements and needs to envision growth. Mission requirements on ground systems and operations change as missions age. Funding constraints require doing more with less during extended mission phases. Workforce composition needs to cover all areas of expertise to maintain a stable environment. 14 Lessons Learned Ground systems design and implementation UCB s approach of design and implementation by the operations team continues to work very well. Ground systems performance Support of all observatory integration and test phases with a portable clone of the MOC was very successful. Introduction of operational interfaces early in the flow saved overall efforts and reduced risks. Core architecture provides reliable framework for fully automated lights-out flight operations. 15 Summary Integrated multi-mission ground systems at UCB continue to perform very well. Core ground systems design principles and architecture have evolved, but did not fundamentally change in 15 years. Lessons learned from previous missions were taken into account for NuSTAR.
