2 OUR NATION IS AT RISK +1 MILLION More than 1.2 million U.S. students drop out of school every year. 1 IN 10 Of the 13 million children growing up in poverty today, only 1 in 10 graduate from college. NEARLY 50% Close to 50 percent of students in low-income communities will not graduate from high school.

3 We believe all children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Education is the key that unlocks the door to success but far too many children, through no fault of their own, aren t getting the education they need to make it in life. We at Stand are passionately committed to righting this wrong.

4 OUR MISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL CHILDREN, REGARDLESS OF THEIR BACKGROUND, GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL PREPARED FOR, AND WITH ACCESS TO, A COLLEGE EDUCATION. TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, WE Educate and empower parents, teachers and community members to demand excellent schools. Advocate for effective local, state and national education policies and investments. Ensure the policies and funding we advocate for reach classrooms and help students. Elect courageous leaders who will stand up for our priorities. * Electoral activities are conducted exclusively by Stand for Children or one or more of its affiliated political committees. Stand for Children Leadership Center does not endorse or otherwise support the election or defeat of any candidate for elective public office.

5 FOUR YEAR GOALS By the end of 2015, Stand for Children s efforts across 14 states will help prepare more than 17 million students to graduate from high school ready for college. Our work at the district level will directly impact more than 1.5 million low-income students. We ll do this by: ADVOCACY Playing a key role in advancing at least 75 education solutions that will prepare students for success. These include passing new laws or school board policies, securing strategic investments, and recruiting or retaining strong student-centered district or state leaders. ELECTIONS Increasing the number of elected officials who align with Stand s priorities by leading efforts to elect 200 school board and state level officials in strategic races across 14 states. EMPOWERMENT Empowering people to take a direct role in improving public education through action that includes meeting with lawmakers, signing a petition, participating in family engagement classes, or becoming a Stand Member. TO ACHIEVE THESE KEY OBJECTIVES, STAND FOR CHILDREN WILL: Expand from 10 to 14 states and grow from 18 to 36 strategically selected school districts in those states; Build our engaged army of Members and Supporters and mobilize them for targeted, effective action to improve public education; Focus on the highest leverage strategies to help disadvantaged students; Develop a culture of high-performing people and systems; and Create a sustainable future for Stand. * Electoral activities are conducted exclusively by Stand for Children or one or more of its affiliated political committees. Stand for Children Leadership Center does not endorse or otherwise support the election or defeat of any candidate for elective public office.
