However, today in AZ there are often too few of us to meet the increasing needs of our students, staffs, and families. Through grassroots advocacy and creating a statewide platform for the voices of the students we serve we can reach the hearts and minds of legislators and governing boards in a whole new way. It is critical they understand we improve lives, as well as educational outcomes. If elected I will work diligently for us all.

I have proven the effectiveness of the program by gaining RAMP recognition. Counseling is often underestimated and underappreciated in the educational environment. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with a team of like-minded professionals to further the impact and reach of school counseling programs in Arizona in order to strengthen the relevance of the profession. Stephanie Kirchheimer, Sonoran Sky Elementary School, Pendergast Elementary School District As a graduate student I was fortunate enough to intern with Mindy Willard at Sunset Ridge Elementary School. With her guidance I was able to facilitate group counseling sessions, practice one-on-one interventions, and learn about the most effective ways to implement the National Model. It was an enriching experience that prepared me well for my current position. Currently I am the counselor at Sonoran Sky Elementary in Glendale. The school has approximately 700 students in grades kindergarten through eighth. I facilitate individual counseling sessions on a daily basis, small group counseling on a weekly basis, and teach classroom lessons to every student on a monthly basis. I received my bachelor s degree in psychology from the University of Arizona in I graduated from Ottawa University in 2013 with a master s degree in school counseling. Throughout my life I have always gravitated toward leadership positions. Now that I am officially a school counselor I believe it is my obligation to advocate for both the students and my profession. Becoming a part of the AzSCA leadership team will provide a stronger platform so that I may grow both personally and professionally. Other Professional Memberships: ASCA Today s school counselors are an integral part of each student s academic, personal and social success. The significance of counseling is more apparent than ever before and we must take up leadership roles whenever possible. If elected, I will work to empower both students and fellow professionals in my community. I will build awareness for the profession by reaching out to community stakeholders and ensuring that they understand the importance of our role. I would also like to ensure that more professional development opportunities are made available to current counselors. I look forward to learning and growing professionally with AzSCA.
