3 The Faculty Development Program To provide science, math and computing faculty the opportunity to engage in scholarly activities and to re-tool in their field. To establish mutually beneficial relationships with Georgia Tech faculty that will allow for continued collaboration in scholarly activities. Initiated in 1996 with grant from Board of Regents - 85 individual participants from 22 institutions
4 Description of the FDP Collaborate with a Georgia Tech faculty member and his/her research group and participate in the scholarly activities of that group Teach/team teach one section each term of a course mutually selected by the participant and the department chair of the host unit Audit courses, participate in seminar and colloquium programs as desired
5 Description of the FDP cont. Receive their normal salary from home institution $12K/semester is provided by GT to home institution to assist in hiring part-time faculty $2250/semester to support research activities at Tech $3K allocation to purchase equipment/supplies to help sustain the partnership with Tech colleagues upon return home $600/mon subsistence allowance to those who must relocate to Atlanta (added in 1999)

9 RSEC: Enhancements for chemistry faculty Funded in 1999 to support 4 faculty/yr for 12 mon Teaching obligation reduced to one course Participants may spend the summer following academic year participation receive the smaller of 2 mon salary or $10K $3K to support summer research bring up to two students from home institution to Tech for summer Undergraduate students working with RSEC faculty receive stipend of $3500 and dormitory housing are incorporated into the department s NSF-REU program
